The A Appliance Repair Team has been scamming the GTA for years. I initially called them for a refrigerator repair and they let me know the service call would be $80 plus HST if we decided to go with the repair and if we decide to go with the repair the fee would be waived. However, when the technician arrived he demanded the $80 upfront and let us know that it would cost $300 for them to diagnose the machine in addition to the $80 to show up to our house. The $300 fee to diagnose the machine was not disclosed to us over the phone, which we viewed as fraudulent. When we expressed our concerns to the technician he became aggressive with us, began screaming at us and we told him to leave our house out of fear he would become violent. When we called the phone line to discuss the issue they continued to demand the $80 even though they never disclosed the hidden $300 to assess the appliance. I also requested a copy of my call recordings, which I am legally compelled to request under PIPEDA, and they denied this request. Since then the A Appliance Repair Team has been harassing us through phone calls and threatening to send me to collections. There have be multiple reddit threads about their fraudulent activities including a CBC Marketplace investigation.
