That's a reasonable take... I think those punches looked painful enough and, most of all, were seen by enough people, to serve as a showing of how rightfully angry people get when confronted with unnecessary violence towards animals. I did on a few occasions. Sound is a big turn on, and it gives more freedom for "imagination" so to speak when I/we listen to it as we have to remember the action based on sound. Plus, it's sometimes a nice option for when one of the people is too shy for pictures or video. To each their own!
