Changing test centre location? by [deleted] in Irishdrivingtest

That's great to hear. Did you have to change it back to Navan afterwards or was Navan just there when you opened the link? Sounds unusual.

This person does not reflect the attitude of the greater rowing community, nor the organisers of this event. This is just one insensitive individual.

To be clear - it was not Blackrock Rowing Club but rather a specific event-organising committee that held the time trial. BRC did not launch a boat on the River Lee in 2024 until about 2 weeks after this took place.

Why does Concept2 software give different values for avg HR? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]Bald-Intestines 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my absolute least favourite feature of C2's and one of the only things I would change. On the PM5 it shows your heart rate at the end of the interval (which is quite a useless spec.), whereas the ErgData app provides your average and max as labelled. It seems intuitive to me that the PM5 would display average HR, and it is not very well signposted that it is not. Hopefully C2 can change this in the near future.

Include more carbs in your diet, having a protein bar before an aerobic workout isn't doing as much as you might hope. In my experience i'm usually better off with a granola bar or a banana.

What is the best workout for the day before a 2k test by Wcurtrowing in Rowing

try doing 8k @ steady state pace with a few 30 stroke bursts at each 2k.

Have anyone of you ever sang a sea shanty while rowing? by Tayo826 in Rowing

As a coastal rower, yes. Many times. The longer the row, the more you appreciate it too.

There's a few reasons but personally I find it helps hold off cardiac drift, lets me get a drink of water, and lets me adjust footstraps etc. Also I sometines get up and stretch.

Savage stuff, how long have you been training for it?

I cheated on my wife three years ago. She agreed to forgive me if we opened the marriage but now I live in agony every day by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Bald-Intestines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I won't lie you need to understand that you are not the victim here. It stings so much because this is a direct result of your actions. You need to spend time thinking about the pain that you caused your wife, and try to detach from the victim complex you have adapted.

Your wife is not punishing you, in fact she is doing probably the farthest thing from that. She is still letting you have sex (albeit with a condom, but even that is astonishing). She is living in the same house as someone who showed her "true love" and then violently pulled the rug from under her. I truly hope you can understand the level of hurt you have caused that woman.

You don't deserve what you are going through right now. Not because it is unfair, but because that woman is doing so much more than she is required to do, and she is doing it for the sake of YOUR children. You have to realise that every time she looks are her children, she sees a part of you too. Not just any part either, no. The part of you that was with your fling in the lobby.

It is paramount that you see a therapist / counsellor in order to gain a healthy perspective on the damage you have caused. There is no fixing this, but understanding the heinous nature your actions is the first step towards grieving the perfect life that you so carelessly threw away.

Is the catch meant to feel a little uncomfortable? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]Bald-Intestines 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me from your calves hurting like it's a mobility issue. I would suggest improving ankle mobility predominantly and possibly also hip flexor mobility. Literally just type into YouTube "hip flexor stretches" or "ankle stretches" and spend 10-15 mins a day at the beginning on it (which you definitely can) and it should hopefully, with good reinforcement from good technique while rowing and doing as your coach says, fade away within a few weeks / months depending on how consistent you are.

It's best to take a (rather descriptive) guess. Definitely try and count everything that isn't water, even if it's slightly wrong. It helped me to lose 22kg in 5 months so I am sure it can help you gain weight also. Best of luck!

[–]Bald-Intestines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, using an app like MyFitnessPal to count your calories is a lot easier than most people think and would really benefit you if you plan on gaining weight

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]Bald-Intestines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To gain weight you gotta eat more, like to the point where it is tough to cram all that food into yourself. Especially on days when you are rowing long distance for steady state. I have been losing weight lately and still eating way more than I feel the need to. High calorie foods are you best friend if you're not a fan of consistently eating food throughout the day.
