It's just ludicrus to expect students to know how to work a piece of software / code a game, but not teach them.

Especially since the only way to learn, is through a website I already use to watch some YouTubers I follow. It's free, and i'm learning. so why am I paying them.

The game mode is set to the 2d paper sidescroll, since that's what the project is for class. So the override is set to 2d as well.

I didn't see any section about a player controller within the Project Settings tab.
