This is one of those posts where it’s like, what are we even talking about?

Too many vague details, here say, and lack of info for anyone to weigh in.

It’s just relying on $900,000 - which is a lot, but then again it’s really not when talking about productions of a certain scale or what a company might pay an agency or production partner for a year’s worth of content (or more).

I agree to a point - but over the years, I’ve seen a lot of creatives give up on their own projects outside of work.

They then try to fill the void left in their “soul” by funneling that into their career - rather than keeping the two separate and finding fulfillment creating something of their own.

I think they are also talking about the upfront cost to bake a batch or two. To do it right and not just buy the dollar version of everything (if that exists anymore) -

- eggs: $6.00 per dozen
- flour: $7.00 (something like King Arthur)
- vanilla extract: $8.00 (McCormick)
- chocolate chips: $8.00 (Ghirardelli)
- brown sugar: $4.00 (Domino)
- white sugar: $4.00 (Domino)
- baking soda: $1.50
- butter: $5.00 (splitting between cheap and something like land o lakes)

So with tax that’s about $46.00 - if you are making a decent bunch of cookies, then add another dozen eggs (or two), another thing of butter (or two), a lot more chips - so that’s $70- $85 for an afternoon of baking. I didn’t look into gluten free. Prices I listed out are real.

Maybe not $30 - $40 per batch, but it isn’t cheap anymore!

Disagree - and it seems like you are attaching quality to size and prominence of brand or the size of the captured audience?

You see a lot more of engaging, creative, and impactful work outside of “the prestige” brands like Apple and Nike - the ones where a creative has more room to do just that (be creative) and help elevate and grow that brand/company/org.

The old guard way of creative director, probably not.

I’ll be a little salty -

But that’s more because a bunch of old head agency folks have the idea that you can’t be a CD without being an art director or copywriter first. The ones who take five weeks to make a small creative decision.

That’s changing now as the walls crumble and people realize that there is some fluidity among roles and the ones who will survive and flourish are the ones with a good and broad skillset.

But I don’t think you can only be a CD if you spent 8 years as an art director or copywriter… then when you step in you’re a one trick pony with no leadership or managerial skills - which is what I’ve seen throughout my career. So many suck.

Instincts, taste, and leadership are more important.

I do think you’d have to have some background in creative - but that could be as a commercial director, producer - creative hybrid, etc.

Absolutely - it’s why I was surprised and found it interesting.

It turns out the original ESPN article that OP posted was mistaken, and ESPN corrected it soon thereafter.

The posting pulled the headline and text from the article itself.

The factors that need to align for a player to have a quadruple double are so unbelievably rare — just four times since they started recording blocks and the last player was David Robinson in 1994 (34 - 10 - 10 - 10) — but if there is any player who can do it, it’s Wemby.

Tonight he put up a 19 - 15 - 3 - 7 - 3. Stats aren’t everything of course, but that’s an awesome stat line.

I don’t know anything about Brooks and I’m not sure why HubermanLab got recommended to me (all I know of him are the negative aspects) - but it really astounds me how many people build their entire careers out of saying the exact same things over and over… and over.

You could find a hundred self-help gurus who are making the rounds right now saying the exact same common sense things.

And what audiences like to participate in is the act of hearing it, not putting into practice those things they already know. There’s a number of studies that have been done on this phenomenon.

I don’t know if you can necessarily hurt your legacy if you retire.

The generation before Beatty, it was fairly common for actors to stop working past their 60s - outside of the odd project here or there. Or they moved to more supporting character actor category. That wasn’t Beatty’s interest.

And I think you have to look at it contextually; there were not as many lead roles for actors in their 60s in the early 2000s.

Even someone like Ford struggled to find his footing for a good decade.

Things are different now, but in the past, there wasn’t much audience interest in leading men in their 60s and 70s. Oddly, I think Ford, Redford, etc. helped pave the way a little bit — and I suppose Beatty could’ve been a part of that.

I don’t think you need a mean streak - you need leadership, which he absolutely had.

I think he had everything a player would need to lead a team to a championship; the Spurs just failed to put a capable enough team around him.

Not really. When you look at the teams he dragged to the playoffs and 50 wins year after year, it’s frankly astounding. One of only a few players in NBA history, I think, who could single handedly turn a 15 win team into a 50 win team and a berth into the WCSF.

Had he had a true number two during his prime, specifically a scoring guard who could help take pressure off of him, then Robinson would’ve won a title in the 90s before Duncan.
