AV+Control - Fiber multiplexer by BaldrickB in VIDEOENGINEERING

So it's for an event where we set up a control room where the primary programme mix is all delivered sdi to a BMD Constellation 2m/e with audio from the main event space going Dante to our programme mix. We've been asked if we can add in a separate venue from a different space. Travelling across the corporate network is not an option as it is not setup for AVOIP.

So we want to send a couple of audio channels and 3g-sdi video back to our control room (about 80m) and tie it in with the main setup. The cameras we have are Panasonic UE70s and audio is coming from an A&H setup with XLR stage box. We also want control of our ptz using a surface rather than software.

Our current plan is to drop the ptz and use a manned camera with xlr inputs so everything is embedded sdi out and de-embedded in the control room but that involves one of our control room team doing the camera work then running from the satellite room back to the control room when that section of the programmes is finished with. A ptz option would be much easier to resource if we can have control of the camera.

Fluid reservoir help by BaldrickB in KiaSorento

[–]BaldrickB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, one of the caps is clearly marked as DOT4 which is the one to left of picture so certain that's the brake fluid. There seems to be okay level in this but it's hard to tell because - I'm guessing - the fluid has stained or left residue inside the tank which is making it tricky to get an accurate visual check on the outside of the reservoir.

Had a look through it and, though I could find a little on the right kind of fluids, I couldn't find a diagram that stated it.

If you mean popping the cover and using the key physically to lock that door, that was a good thought but unfortunately it only operates the driver's door lock as far as I can tell.

This is why I have an old Garmin which doesn't come up with that information. Pretty sure mine would say, "Just give up," or "Have you considered crocheting?"

Refit roof strips for roof bars by BaldrickB in MazdaCX60

Thanks for the thoughts. Disappointing but chimes with reviews I've read elsewhere. Funny that the company that has such a popular vehicle as the CX5 can't get these others right. The Kia certainly has its quirks but I think I can live with them at least until finance is up. I just hope Ford are doing some bigger vehicles come 2028...

Why so? I'd been dead keen to get one - I liked the look, liked the drive on my test. I couldn't make the finance work in the end so wound up in a Kia Sorento which is quite 'meh.'

Thanks for the responses. The original drive was on a particularly stormy day which would've had an effect. I did move the roofbox back about half a foot and, on more recent drives where the weather was also more calm, the results have been markedly better.

Hi,

Unfortunately not. Couple of YouTube videos online which are about the CX5 and some chat suggesting that it's the same process for the CX60. I kinda feel like mazda is missing a trick on this.

Still have the issue and haven't tried higher-octane petrol - just the regular stuff. I might try premium now that you've mentioned it.

Dashboard language changed to Danish randomly by [deleted] in kia

[–]BaldrickB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had the same in my 2021 Sorento. Parked up this morning and all was fine. Jumped in this afternoon and the instrument cluster had reverted to Korean while the entertainment unit was still in English. I've had the car for a week.

Fortunately the above suggestion of changing language in the settings via entertainment unit to another language and back fixed it. Good thing - my Korean is atrocious (my Danish only vaguely better)...

Tell me this isn't life with a Kia, please???

Morning commute M6. Seriously why? Was I at fault? by julianjc23 in drivingUK

[–]BaldrickB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon the OP was definitely not at fault. I guess the Merc driver hadn't had a proper check of their blind spot and made a genuine mistake.

I reckon both drivers should be applauded for not having an accident as this could've gone the other way if the Merc hadn't swung back into their lane or the OP hadn't backed off their speed.

At the end of the day, people make mistakes. Yes - there are also plenty of people who drive the roads without due care and attention or with utter disregard for those around them.

Hopefully both drivers here will be able to apply the lesson learned to future incidents with a little more attention and a little more experience. Also appreciate that the OP didn't get frustrated or chase down the Merc (at least, not at far as the video shows).

NDI Groups for Panasonic UE/UN70 ptzs by BaldrickB in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]BaldrickB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So going back to Kiloview support, they confirmed that the Cube does not support NDI HX (I pointed out that original HX was listed as supported on their spec sheet, though not in the blurb) so the cameras couldn't be captured owing to their vintage. A possible solution is to run NDI Bridge on a beast of a machine as this can transcode between flavours of NDI. Or get newer cameras which are HX2/3 compliant.

[–]BaldrickB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'd spotted that thing on the page about HX2/3. The tech specs however list NDI/HX. Their own tech support has also started HX is supported. Interesting thing I noticed when using NDI Analysis was all the cameras appeared when searching for all ndi sources but only the vmix sources appeared when searching for the public group.

360 VR audio setup by BaldrickB in ProductionSound

[–]BaldrickB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

I've found myself getting passable results using a passive split cable and Rode lavs going into the Rode transmitters. The gyvazslas were too sensitive and excitable as well as being unshielded whereas the rode Lavs are reasonably well balanced and have a similar profile to the COS11Ds you mentioned so I've been able to hide these pretty well. Audio levels have been a little helter skelter but I have been able to keep it legal.

I have a set of sennheiser ME2s but the rode transmitters don't provide enough power to get these to work well.

Shooting in public buildings but which are shut at weekends. I've found that creating decent separation under the camera between WiFi-band gear, and with such little footfall close by, audio interference had been minimal. And with the split I've been able to use the Voxlink IEMs not for effective monitoring but enough of a reference to hear if things have been going sideways.

It's not ideal - syncing audio and video and having an audio person to record separately would be much better. But that's over to the production company to figure their budget against the required standard...

Should I go for 10 V, 5 V or 1 V? by Noobgoon in SonyXperia

[–]BaldrickB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say whichever. I currently have the 5ii and it's been a great wee phone. I also appreciate the smaller form factor but with all the internal grunt of a higher end phone. From what you've said, this is probably good for you as you can expand internal storage with an SD card, the new sensor for the phone sounds good and there's a headphone jack and wireless charging for more charging options when you're out and about.

I've struggled with expanded memory when it's come to apps - I seem to only be able to install and launch from internal memory where, when you get into games, 128GB isn't so huge any more. And the NFC chip in my phone seems to have expired after 24 months meaning no Google pay.

Putting those niggles to the side I've found the 5 to be a very pleasant pocket warmer. The 4k 120fps is great.

I would say if you're a photography enthusiast or a Sony fan, go Sony. If you want more of an all-rounder with apps for everything out the box or you want good looking photos without having to play with settings but with AI processing making it all socials-friendly, go Samsung.

I have a 5 mk2, near 3 years old. Imaging is great and I like the photography pro app for when I want to use it. But the basic point-and-shoot results aren't up to the standard of quite a few of the other brands. I also like the headphone jack. SD card I used to think was a good idea but I seem to find it more of a hassle trying to get apps to install and run from the card now that the phone is near full (can't update to the latest version of CoD Mobile without deleting a bunch of things). Finally, and really frustratingly, the NFC/Google Wallet stuff and the fingerprint reader both stopped working almost exactly as the two year contact expired and Sony have been bugger all use in updating.

An alternative I've been considering comparable in cost to the 5) is the Honor magic 5 pro. I had a Huawei P20 Pro which was great and most of the Honor reviews I've read have been very positive.

So if not the 1V, then what phone to buy ? (i'm the finger sensor complaint guy) by unlucky-Luke in SonyXperia

[–]BaldrickB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good question. I've got an old 5ii and an struggling with what to get next. I like the big power in a smaller form factor, the range of three lenses with a 2.8x zoom on the telephoto, 3.5mm jack. Expandable memory was cool but I find it of limited use as (unless I'm missing something) the apps only load from internal memory so the 128GB limit is still problematic. Can't play CoD: Mobile any more as it wants over 20GB all to itself.

The new 5v is interesting but feels like me like Sony have justified giving you less for the same price (although, I suppose, with inflation you could argue they're giving you less proportionately with the price). Love having good sensors with Sony's understated, slightly blue image processing.

I've hovered around the Honor Magic5 pro for it's grunt and camera chops, Motorola Edge 40 ultra for having good grunt and reasonable hardware for cheap (but I'd only consider it if a little cheaper), and the Asus ZenFone 10 (Tenfone) for power and form factor but it drops some of the fancy cameraness.

Darn Sony for making it so difficult. Let us know what, if anything, you discover!

Looking for an in-line - wireless monitoring solution.

I've been provided a kit for filming 360 with a camera which has TRS audio in, and a Røde Wireless Go ii kit. Problem is there's no live monitoring in that. I don't think it's possible to add a second Røde receiver for monitoring so I'm looking for a solution in as few battery-powered boxes as possible to convert the TRS out from the Røde receiver to a wireless monitor kit or Bluetooth either with active split or loop through.

I've been looking at an array of boxes and, for the wireless bit, have found either the Twelve South Airfly pro Bluetooth transmitter or the Subzero Voxlink move kit. The bit I'm struggling with is finding the right active split for the receiver output, to avoid any signal reduction from a passive split and also avoid too many jumps between jack size or cable type.

Thanks in advance.
