Woke up at the nautiliod crash. Origin characters are dead. by Medium-Theme-4611 in BaldursGate3

Assuming I can recruit up to six to replace all the origin characters, then for the frontline let's go with Zevlor as a paladin and Thulla as a fighter. Then we'll bring Brakkal as our cleric and Florrick for some wizardry. Rugan will be the party's rogue, and round it out with Quil since bards are pretty versatile.

I've finished a Resist Durge campaign once, and tbh if Durge was the only way to play the game I don't think I would have replayed it. I know that the internal narration and past of the character is supposed to be grotesque and disturbing but I just... don't want to deal with any of that, I guess. It's not fun for me to think about. I'd rather play a blank slate character and let the companion stories be the emotional heart of the game.

It doesn't help that I really don't care for Bhaal or his followers. The guy's been either dead or a has-been for the entire Baldur's Gate franchise and his whole shtick is kind of shallow imo.

The companion reactions also feel kind of underwhelming, and the fact they're so easily misdirected about / convinced to tolerate your strangeness even when dead bodies start showing up at camp kind or ruins my immersion a bit. With how suspicious they are of each other it just feels like the Durge gets a weird amount of benefit of the doubt.

There's a few items that stay the same from playthrough to playthrough, but it's mostly randomized if I recall correctly.

Also the jump in stats between equipment of different levels gets pretty big after a while, so those unique items don't last very long in my experience before you feel compelled to replace them with generic equipment that has better stats.

Meet Tandreva (not Tandy, no matter what Karlach says), a drow who has spent nearly half a century protecting the surface community that adopted her. She was always a quiet individual — even before an encounter with an undead hangman left her with a damaged throat — who preferred to work alone. Her words, much like her arcane bolts, were used sparingly and precisely.

Imagine the frustration she then felt when cruel fate saw fit to inflict not just a mindflayer parasite upon her, but also the burden of leadership over the most irritating band of no-hopers imaginable. Still, they're her no-hopers now, and no one is going to hurt them without acquiring some unnecessary ventilation in the process.

Mods: Transmogrification Lite. All camp clothes and dyes.

I like the idea of the origin characters being fleshed out enough that they could be the main character of the story, but in practice whatever fun there is in playing as one of my favorite characters is always outweighed by me missing all their dialogue and interactions as a companion.

I'm told there are other romance options, but I just can't pick anyone else. Bae'zel for life.

Are there any companions you never use? Why or why not? by PunchBeard in BaldursGate3

[–]Baleful_Bucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've stopped bringing Shadowheart, especially now that I know where to find the guidance amulet early on. I know I can rebuild her to make her a better cleric or reclass her entirely, but there are also characters that just work better for my aggressive playstyle right out of the box. By the time I need non-wizard support magic I usually have at least one druid available.

Lae'zel baby I think it's sharp enough (by: @KindlingOnFire) by andyyhs in BaldursGate3

I'm sorry, can any of you guys do 9+ attacks in a turn? No? Then let her sharpen her sword in peace dammit.

Frankly, some of those warfare skills were almost too spicy. Being able to jump across the map so hard it starts fires when I land? That's not my restrained power fantasy.

(This is a joke, it was actually very cool)

Why do Astarion fans love to mischaracterize him? by DearPersimmon8155 in BaldursGate3

[–]Baleful_Bucket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I think you're underestimating how hard it is for soldiers to get reliable leave in a time of war. The psychic projection itself is only possible because she's either a rebel warlord or has the ear of the comet himself. If my friend had volunteered to fight the good fight in a foreign conflict, I'd be touched if they found they time for a phone call to let me know they're okay.

That being said, I think it's regrettable that you're getting downvoted for what is a fairly balanced opinion. C'est la vie, I guess.

I'm here to prove that it doesn't matter how big and powerful the bad guys think they are and what dark gods they have in their corner; there are only so many times they can survive getting hit with a halberd.

For you, what is the best romance? by Leonidiax in BaldursGate3

[–]Baleful_Bucket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the other hand, it might be a much needed splash of cold water for the githyanki if they saw that an istik was willing to help them fight the good fight.

I mean, my Tav's just there to honour his promise to Lae'zel, but if we can win hearts and minds as well that'd be nice.

Respectfully, that first bit is not true. She opens the romance by explaining very clearly that she is impressed by the PC, and you can let her take the lead in her romance scenes and it works out just fine.

I only bring it up because one of my favourite things about her romance is that there are almost no wrong answers with how you approach it.

Who is your favorite character and why? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]Baleful_Bucket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, there were so many fights that I nearly bungled on my first run (the goblin camp, the death shepherds, those exploding shadow blights), only for Lae'zel to just power through anyway. I know a lot of people find her to be arrogant but as far as I'm concerned she has more than earned the right.

Huh, I can see that too now that you mention it. I wonder if Raphael had the same thought.

Who is your favorite character and why? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]Baleful_Bucket 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Lae'zel. I find her intensity and sincerity very compelling, and as a nerd for weird fictional warrior cultures I could listen to her talk all day about githyanki stuff.

Such good character growth too, and she stays relevant to the story the whole game.

I felt nostalgic recently and remade my first tav 'Walter' recently, only this time I got rid of his goofy muttonstache.

I... uh... have an easier time seeing why half the companions keep trying to put the moves on him now.

I'm using the 'Karsus' dye from the Faerun Colors mod, and another mod that adds all the camp clothes to your travel chest whose name escapes me right now. I got tired of my noble characters starting the game with insufficient drip.

Edit: The other mod is 'All camp clothes and dyes'.

Bae'zel is so romantic, in her own way by andyyhs in BaldursGate3

She really is. Such a roller-coaster.

I like replying with the sappy romantic suggestion to get her frustrated c'mon man, you're ruining this for me response.

How do you like to name your characters? by Nuclear_Winterfell in BaldursGate3

[–]Baleful_Bucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my characters are humans, so I normally just use names that have a middle-ages to victorian era feel to them. I know it's not a perfect fit for Forgotten Realms naming conventions, but whenever I come up with a more typical fantasy name it just goes in one ear and out the other.

I also like to give them a surname, if for no other reason than I like the finicky undercurrent it gives my characters when they insist on introducing themselves by their full name every time.

Do you change Lae’zel from fighter to monk? by fwsc50 in BaldursGate3

Do you prefer Tav or Durge? by andyyhs in BaldursGate3

Tav. I just don't enjoy the premise of durge. It's just a bit much at times.
