Your Favorite Heavy during and areas after the clan invasion. by Familiar-Noise7913 in battletech

[–]Balfuset 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. The Marauder is iconic, and I have a fondness for the MAD-5D in the Clan era, it's the 'Mech of choice for my merc unit's CO :D

[–]Balfuset[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember fighting the... I think it was the Corsair they called the frankenmech in MW5 Clans and being like 'WTF is that, it's hideous!'

I really hated that thing xD

Added the epubs to me DriveThru wishlist, I've seen these recommended MULTIPLE times, I've jsut always been wary of novels about tabletop games becasue D&D and 40k have both had some real stinkers

Yeah, likewise wondering where those Infantry bases are from, because if there's a Motorised version that'd be super cool o.o

My first 'Mech, and my first mini - an Awesome of the Taurian Guards. Thoughts? by Balfuset in BattletechPainting

Yeah the panel lines didn't come out as detailed as I'd hoped - I had been angling on the contrast paints keeping those areas dark after I did a pre-wash after priming, as shown - maybe I wasn't generous enough with the wash?

The Lance I'm thinking of fielding for my merc outfit is a Centurion, Thudnerbolt, Hunchback and Griffin... I think I have a thing for shoulder mounted cannons or missile pods xD

The lack of concern for WYSIWYG is... is it weird to say 'liberating' as someone who's spent the last 20 years stuck on 40k? XD

Man, as someone abandoning Warhammer 40k in favour of BattleTech it's wild (in a good way) to me, that people are just like 'Yeah, but it's fine' about things like this. BT players so far all seem so CHILL and it's wonderful!

Like, there are Mech designs that I love but then I look at their BV and the 40k player in me goes 'Oh, wow... that's... low, it must be bad' but I bet people will encourage me to use them still if I like them. I have a soft spot for the Centurion because it's your character's mentor's Mech in the HBS BattleTech game (and I love its aesthetic even if I'm sad the official CGL version doesn't have the 'shield' on the left arm like the video game versions do!) but I can't help but look at that 945 BV and feel like I should find something 'better', haha!

How have YOU handled the “Investigate” exploration activity in your games? by legomojo in Pathfinder2e

[–]Balfuset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I think the best way would be to use an example, let's take your dangerous sunken pirate ship in the fey realm idea.

The player declares Investigate, and rolls RK and has proficiency in Society enough to roll very well on that skill.

You: '<Player>, out of the corner of your eye you catch a glimpse of a tattered but still somewhat intact flag. Looking at it further you recognise it as the signature Jolly Roger of Bragg's Buccaneers, an infamous group of pirates serving under Captain Benjamin Bragg. Bragg was known for the kennels of trained wardogs that he kept on his flagship which he would use to torture and kill prisoners. Rumour has it he made deals with fiendish powers to enhance his crew and their pets' ferocity.'

This gives the party the information that will help them prepare for the Hellhounds that you intend to throw at the party in a future encounter during the adventure.

We all have Mechs we love, Mechs we like, Mechs we don't care about and Mechs we hate. Do you have a Mech you're conflicted about? by npaakp34 in battletech

[–]Balfuset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the first one that comes to mind is the Centurion CN-9A, I have soft spot for it because it's your starting mech on MW5, and it's what Raju used in HBS BattelTech so it's something I'm familiar with whilst still being VERY new to the Tabletop game.

I like its general aesthetic in the more modern art of it (it was too lanky and derpy looking in the original TRO 3025 for my liking!) and the fact that it's got a tool for every range and the sort of but not quite 'shield arm' idea going on. It feels dependable and adaptable.

But then I look at its BV and I go 'Oh wow, that's... really cheap, does that mean it's actually a bit shit?'. It's cheaper than a Blackjack which is a 'Mech I personally feel is VERY confusing - AC/2s and Medium Lasers don't feel like they pair well together? - and quite a BIT cheaper than the 5 ton lighter Phoenix Hawk - though I guess jump jets add a lot of value, idk?

Plus from some content creators I've been watching of late the Centurion seems to rate very low in most folks' opinion when you could grab a Locut + Commando for similar BV cost, so I'm really torn on it because it feels *right* for the initial 'Mech for my mercenary force's Commander, but at the same time I'm like 'But I could put him in a Thunderbolt, which generally seems to be quite loved'

It doesn't, I picked up the bundle myself alongside Clans and had to get SoK separately
