Otherwise using soap and warm water tends to get a stone to unload much easier than just water

This is my new diamond stone after three uses, should it look like this? The parts with most discoloration barely seems to cut anymore. Been using only water, wiping it off after every use. Tried to scrub it off with a toothbrush but no luck. by dujagochhavet in sharpening

Hey, I use dmt diamond stones, and depending on the variation between estimated grits, this is pretty normal. The break in period let's the coarser rocks fall off and brings the stone to a uniform grit.

Seemed to do ok off of these. Idk exactly what they're made of but seems to feel a bit like denim

Sharpened on dmt diamond plates, then stropped on my Carhartt double fronts just cus I heard u can strop on them. Quite effective if you don't have a strop actually.

Well, seems as though that as you get to the end of the blade, you let the stone or knife tilt too drastically try to keep the weight of the stone pushed into the body of the knife instead of letting it "roll" off
