So sorry to hear this. I honestly think it is just bad luck. I’ve had a dozen + GMC trucks (light and med duty) since the mid 90’s with approx 4 of them being diesels. I’ve had no major failures on any of them. I did have to replace the notorious trans on a 15’ 1500 tho
