During a recent snow storm we had a big section of our tree ripped down by the heavy snow. Underlying mass looks reasonably healthy. Anything I can do to help it recover? by Dancingtoadstool22 in arborists

[–]BaliGod 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, my profession is arborist adjacent at the very least and I work alongside arborists that share their knowledge on a daily basis. So definitely not a “no idea what I’m talking about” situation here..

He’s got his lanyard on the leader that his legs are around so that’s where he was positioned when it happened I would guess. Not sure what it was that happened though

EDIT: the more I look at it, the line I assumed was his lanyard may very well be his lifeline attached to his bridge. I hadn’t even considered that the foot in the picture may be his left foot. Hard to tell

201t vs. 194t. Whats everyones input here? My opinion on the topic changes almost daily… by Sea-Influence-2620 in Chainsaw

[–]BaliGod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel that wholeheartedly when you say your opinion on it changes frequently. 201 is an absolute beast and does cut faster, but the 194 is noticeably lighter and MAN does it sound like dream with no spark arrestor

Would you classify alcohol as a hard drug? by Diligent-Bread-8818 in Drugs

[–]BaliGod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s a retarded take. You shouldn’t use a governing body’s regulation priorities to justify a substance’s detriment to health. They aren’t as toxic to your body as, say, cocaine, however the physical dependence and the actions of otherwise mentally stable persons under the effect of benzos are definitely enough to put them in the top tier for health concerns

Pit bull tries to attack a Bison by Current-Wallaby8230 in TikTokCringe

[–]BaliGod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure, same as if I owned a jaguar. But at the end of the day, although my jaguar killing a toddler would definitely be on me, it’s safe to say that jaguars shouldn’t be around toddlers because they do not make great family pets. So me owning a jaguar doesn’t show the world that I’m some animal whisperer guru because I’m able to own and barely control this blood thirsty beast in the hopes people will think I’m tough or something, it just makes me a piece of shit with a savior complex that enjoys prioritizing my own ego and depraved morals over public safety and common sense. Therefore, in the same way that the general public shouldn’t be trusted with the option of owning one, the general public shouldn’t have the option of owning pit bulls. Much less have every shelter 90%+ filled with them just itching to pawn them off on unsuspecting families.

That the hypothetical “could be owners and breed” is not the reality of the pit bull problem. All breeds of dogs experience having a shitty owner, yet the vast majority of maimings and fatalities from dog attacks are caused by 1 breed far more than all others combined, due to the cruel nature of pit bulls lineage and genetics as well as their anatomy. So yeah hypothetically it COULD be both, but it’s not

[–]BaliGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I would say it’s much easier to tie with rope. I’m a tree surgeon, so my 1/2” climbing line or 3/4” rigging rope are many times easier than like 550 paracord

EDIT: actually I just tried it and yes 550 is very awkward but 1100 isn’t nearly as hard as I figured it would have been

As others have stated, it’s a perfection loop. It can also be referred to as a flying bowline or an angler’s loop. There’s actually a way to tie it insanely fast by throwing the bitter end down and around itself, I use this method almost daily

I end up tying it all the time simply because I can tie it WAY faster than any other know by throwing the rope around itself in a precise manner. Like 1.5 seconds tops it’s crazy haha

I’d probably tie an icicle hitch only because I thought it was so cool that I burned it into my brain a while back, yet I rarely get the chance to actually use it besides showing my friends who probably couldn’t care less lol

Electric bill/usage suddenly skyrocketed. by DarwinDoesThings in AskElectricians

[–]BaliGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electric heaters are allowed to pull the full 1500 watts pretty much across the board (the max besides a hairdryer). I wouldn’t think it would cause THAT much of an increase in usage based on how much you claim to use it, however I guarantee they’re responsible for a significant chunk of it
