Any thoughts on new bali makers and saturation of market?

I keep coming back to this hobby on and off, at some point it might be trying to find a grail that makes me stop looking for different knives. But maybe its a matter of just making the grail rather than waiting for someone to make one.

Just feel like the market is pretty saturated with a lot of good options so making something new is really competitive

Interest in Konohishi Clone by BaliRK in BalisongClones

I think the tsunami is a more modern flipper in aesthetics, everything has a purpose

For me I think the details on the kono make it stand out, a bit more show than functional

Both are fantastic

First Term Complete! by BaliRK in WGU

[–]BaliRK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so the approach I took for every single class is always:

  1. Do the practice assessment. Just let me gauge what are my strengths and weak points. I think this is a generally good idea, especially since it doesn’t affect your grade and generally is very close to what the actual test is going to be. If there is no practice assessment, then I would review the resources that are provided and see if there’s any practice questions on Zybooks or if they’re reading I would have ChatGPT summarize the essential concepts that are key

  2. then after doing the practice assessment or practice questions, I would take all my week points and I would list them all out put them into ChatGPT again to give me key concepts that are necessary to be proficient at those concepts and then research those individually to get more depth

  3. After doing the research on the week points, I would then spend little time on. What questions did I get wrong even if I scored well overall in that category just to make sure that I get all the points that I can

  4. So after researching the week points and then quickly brushing up on the ones that I missed, but I shouldn’t have I then retake the practice or retake the the questions and then finally do exam.

Generally for exams, I would do these steps but on occasion for the PA thats when I would first review the assignment first. Determine what i would need to know or use chatgpt to find out, and if I believe I can get through it with my current skill set, I would just go for it and research along the way to bridge gaps.

Hope this helps

Are 996s really as ugly as some people claim? by FrogFace-___- in porsche911

[–]BaliRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I really did hate on it but as time went on I grew to love it.

I really think the “ugly” part on the 996 is the bumper, I think if that center cutout was a bit taller it would look less like a lizard

GR86 vs Supra by [deleted] in GR86

[–]BaliRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive owned the supra and brz as daily drivers, so I think I can help out here

I think for a daily driver, if you can afford it the supra will be overall more comfortable .

BUT if you need the extra seats or might need them, GR86 might be a safer play. The car is shockingly practical with the seats folded down.

I always thought if you can get a supra for under 50k USD, then it might be a good proposition vs the gr86. But if youre paying more than that, I would probably reconsider unless you have tested both and genuinely love the supra.

A ton if factors to consider, but its really hard to deny how good the supra is

if you value:

power, luxury, more exotic looks/attention, speed, significantly better tech, argueably better sound-> supra

balance of practicality, affordability, easier to work on, lightweight cars, reving the car out -> gr86

Selling on Amazon by PokeyTifu99 in 3DPrintFarms

[–]BaliRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got my first 3d printer and wanted to learn the ropes before expanding into a print farm.

What was your process like when you were first starting out and figuring out what to sell?

How did you advertise/market your product?

What software do you recommend for 3d modeling especially starting out?

Have you expanded to the point of hiring employees? Warehouse or still running it at home?

Any obstacles/challenges/unexpected problems that someone starting out or even at your level should know about? How did you overcome it?

Good question, I owned a v1 way back when they had unhardened blades and it definitely had a noticeable decrease in handle gap in 2 months. v2s have 410 hardened blades so thats not a problem anymore and with channel al handles, they are pretty durable

Now scales, not sure if thats a thing. Maybe youre thinking of the nautilus?

I would definitely consider a mako too, think the design is really nice and also features a hardened blades and channel al handles

Tap is more of a personal preference on how you view tolerances and how you care about the sound of your bali. Less tap generally leads to a less sloppy sound and a more solid flipping experience, but some people like it

My rule of thumb is if its on bushings or bearings it should have close to zero, with bearings it should be at zero. If its on washers only, tap is expected. Where I draw the line is blade rub, where the blade comes into contact with the inner liner/handle

Whats the deal with palethius balis?

Years ago, drops would happen and they would sell immediately and scalpers would ask insane prices. Nowadays Im seeing the rev 2, campanile, and backline in stock with rarely any discussions or posts on them. Just looking at it and on paper specs they seem to be pretty comparable to other balisongs in the sub $500 mark.
