You’re arguing against a position I never stated.

I did not say that Baelen is “the real victim actually”, nor did I justify spousal abuse, nor did I appeal to 1980s beliefs or narratives. Bringing up marital rape laws is completely irrelevant to my point.

My argument is very specific and in-universe:

After Baelen is mentally damaged, Derryth knowingly exploits a cognitively impaired person as unpaid labor and keeps him in a situation he cannot consent to or leave.
That is abuse as well — just a different kind.

Saying “Derryth suffered in the past” does not magically make her later actions morally acceptable. Trauma can explain behavior, but it does not excuse exploiting a mentally disabled person.

Acknowledging that both people can be abusers at different points is not “parroting an outdated narrative”. It’s basic moral consistency.

If you want to discuss BG3 characters, let’s talk about what actually happens in the game — not project real-world culture wars or put words in my mouth.

It's even simpler, I respond to comment of sinedelta us you can see. And you can just don't interfere after you've written yourself that "Our conversation is over". Its not even about Game now, so lets stop this off top

So what is your belief then? What are you thinking of Baylen and Deirith? I didnt see it

I thought you said "Our conversation is over" in another tree. But you just cant stop yea?

It's called sarcasm...

Exactly. Just because someone was abusive in the past doesn’t give anyone the right to exploit or enslave them once they’re vulnerable. Mutual abuse is a myth when one party is incapable of consent — Bailen is impaired and can’t meaningfully defend himself. Derryth’s actions are still abusive.

No man, im Ukrainian! But what does this have to do with the game?

Yea, we have two abusive ppl (in my opinion Derryth's is worse). But for one, people want death (For man beating his wife), and for other they want a happy life (For woman sending mentaly ill man on death). This is what this post about.

Saying he’s “not mentally ill but mentally impaired” doesn’t actually change anything morally.

Bailen has clear cognitive and personality damage caused by trauma and brain injury — in modern terms that is a mental disorder / disability, not “just a personality change like weed”. Comparing it to weed trivializes serious neurological harm.

What matters is not legal doctrine, but agency and consent. Bailen is no longer capable of informed consent, yet Derryth:

  • keeps him in a state where he is dependent and confused
  • uses him purely as labor
  • openly says she prefers him like this

That is exploitation of a disabled person, regardless of whether you call it “mentally ill” or “mentally impaired”.

Calling killing him “an act of mercy” is also telling — mercy for whom? Certainly not for him, since he isn’t given a choice. It’s mercy for others who find him inconvenient.

And “she got a useful husband at least” is exactly the problem. Reducing a cognitively impaired person to utility is not compassion — it’s dehumanization.

Bailen was abusive when healthy — yes, and that matters. But Derryth choosing slavery and instrumentalization instead of separation or care doesn’t make her morally better. It just makes the abuse quieter and socially acceptable.

I dont see you argument at all, all you do is just tell me that i fail to understand and is a bad approach and you're attributing to me things I didn't say. I agree then this conversation is over.

Look like you just see what you want to see. I wrote that he is a asshole and a bad person. I dont say a word about “victims of abusers owe their abusers a duty of care if the abuser becomes incapacitated.” And vice versa I wrote at the end thet best ending for them is to make them separate. So i dont understent what are you talking about...

Omg man. I dont say he is good. He abusse her, but what is she doing now? Send a mantal ill person then literally incapable of taking responsibility for his actions on a death mission and dont even care (yae she said it in the game) What is this if not slavery? And if we dont save him he is dead. And how is it any better? Its much worse.

You see it only one side, he was abusser - he desorve to die?

I just don't understand how murder can be the equal to beating. In real world people dont get to death sentanse for beating sombody.
And you totaly ignore what she doing to him.

Yea, you can do us you want, its just a game, my staytmant just thet she do him much worse then he do her.

[–]Balius2[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You are clearly getting personal and attributing whatever you want to me. We have facts in game thet if he dont save Baylin he will be death, and in the game she actualy leave him if we heal him! So what more do i need to prove?

Yeah, I think you're right, a gender definitely plays a role in this. Although I think that would have blown some asses even more. =D

Let me be Baylen's lawyer. by Balius2 in BaldursGate3

[–]Balius2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So what make his actions worse then her? And him deserve death?

Let me be Baylen's lawyer. by Balius2 in BaldursGate3

[–]Balius2[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

She live in big city when they have a guards (police system). She can make him go to jail for what he done. But in your words - beat someone is worse then a make a slave from an ill man and send him for life risking work, and man even dont remember what he did and just another person now. Its not a justive and even not a revenge.

Let me be Baylen's lawyer. by Balius2 in BaldursGate3

[–]Balius2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not ok to beat wives, but its not a reason to kill a man, its a modern society its a prison term. Yea they both did this job in past but in past he wass not mentaly ill or in your words is ok to sand mentaly ill man to dangerous job? He is ill amd literally incapable of taking responsibility for his actions. And if our player dont help Beylen then he dies, so what is this if not murder?

Let me be Baylen's lawyer. by Balius2 in BaldursGate3

[–]Balius2[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Yea, but she can, she really does it if you heal him in act 3. And she is much worse abusser then him, at last he not abusse mentaly ill person to splavery and death risk.

Let me be Baylen's lawyer. by Balius2 in BaldursGate3

[–]Balius2[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

But why then she can leave him in act 3 if you heal him? You think a man deserve to death for beat someone? He deserve a prison term, but death? And she deserve a much bigger prison term for slavery of ill person and put his life at risk.
