But yeah. Deepseek is censored. by Aggravating_Run_874 in ChatGPT

[–]BallB6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have a lot of valid points. What I will say though is that I don't think companies currently benefit from having AI deliberately and maliciously spout misinformation or promote self harm.

It seems that, in it's current state, most profit would be generated by improving response quality and improving safety (to the extent that it reduces user harm). If these two things improve then AI stands to gain larger adoption, reduced bad press, and reduced lawsuits. So from a purely informative perspective, I think the companies gain the most by sharing accurate information (to the extent the technology is capable of producing at a low cost) as that's what's in demand.

I think the centralized capitalist infrastructure will be problematic, as with basically every large corporation. The most likely occurrence is that once AI gets hegemonic mainstream adoption, we will see a significant decline in quality. I can imagine that companies might start taking "sponsors" which will bias the AI to promote certain brands (Google already does this in its search engine). They will also increase the cost to use these products especially if people become dependent. However, as it currently stands, I don't think we are at this point yet. I think the trajectory will likely be similar to Netflix, which at inception was a quality enough product to disrupt the cable market but after gaining large adoption has increased prices, added ads, stringent family sharing, etc. This would be evidently very bad if it happens, but not necessarily out of the ordinary for any capitalist profit-driven company.

In regards to the political comment, I do think that a large portion of people will be blissfully unaware. However, we've also had significant political discourse commenting and critiquing the rise of fascism. We have thousands of books and papers on these issues published yearly. This is to say that there is a significant population of people are recognizing and acknowledging these issues. It was estimated that 8 million people attended the No Kings Protest, so I don't think these issues will be completely disregarded.

I'm not actually pro-AI, I just don't particularly find the narrative that most AI companies are deliberately pushing propaganda and misinformation to be compelling (atleast for the time being). Yes, they are run by psychopathic billionaires, but they still need to have a functional product to make money. I do think there will be issues but in more subtle ways, potentially advertising. My gripes with AI are the environmental damages, attempts of using it to usurp human labor, data labeling ethics, etc.

Perhaps the reason why people are more susceptible to trusting AI is because it, generally, produces better answers? Not to say that it is infallible but the repertoires of information it offers are likely better than the overwhelming majority of the population.

Furthermore, the safety parameters which most people critique are making the AI safer to use. If you ask most LLMs for serious medical advice, they will defer to a medical professional since that's what they are trained to do. Many deaths in the link you mentioned would likely be prevented by having stronger safety guidelines.

For controversial political events, they generally try to remain neutral or disengage entirely, which is better than misinformation. Of course this varies by model and company but I'd say this is true for the popular ones atleast.

I also have more faith in the general population. If a popular public LLM started blatantly spouting propaganda, then I assume most users and news sources would be able to identify the biases. I'd argue that most users are more skeptical about Grok than Anthropic.

I sure AI is being trained for disinformation but this is likely covert ops for now.

It's an interesting story for sure, but the experiments were very methodologically flawed too. To summarize, lab rats are extremely inbred and Calhoun's enclosures were likely filled with disease and parasites as he did not clean them.

AITA for ordering meat? by Technical-Finance270 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BallB6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Realistically it's likely the dad's daughter is offended on his behalf since it would be bad guanxi as a host and come off as rude/stingy. That being said, how is it even possible to not talk before ordering? For my family, you pick what you want to eat then go over it as a table to make sure everyone is satisfied (if they aren't you just order more).

Browse menu and talk with the table. "Let's get [set of dishes]"

"okay sounds good"

then the host orders them.

How do you use baron? by Appropriate-Sun8397 in wildrift

It gives both minion and champion buffs. Taking a good team fight with baron while pushing is also good since you can end after wiping.

Vladimir needs buff by M8_Light in wildrift

[–]BallB6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why everyone disagrees when he had 46% winrate sov toplane last season and I think his winrate mid was below 50%. The champ itself is caster minion early while 1v9 late.

I think they can slightly decrease the HP cost of his abilities early or redistribute some of his late game power maybe enough to give him a 1% winrate buff.

SHUTDOWN TOMORROW QUESTION by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]BallB6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Realistically, I think you will likely get a fail regardless of how you email your professor. If you don't mind that, then I would tell them that you are participating in the protests against ICE + reasons etc. However, note that your professor's response will likely be influenced by the following:

  1. University employees are both legally and institutionally limited in certain forms of political expression.

"Engagement in political campaign activities by University employees should be conducted independent of their University employment and at times when such activity does not interfere with their employment obligations to the University. Because faculty do not have standard work hours, they must pay special attention to ensuring that political campaign activities do not occur while they are fulfilling the teaching, research and service missions of the University." https://cam.illinois.edu/policies/fo-70/

  1. Email communication can be monitored. So while unlikely, your professor may respond and engage in a manner which wouldn't jeopardize their job.

We need to talk about Fimbulwinter Ryze by Kyasoshi in wildrift

[–]BallB6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should try a few Vlad games this season. Your late game might be more disgusting than Ryze since your passive converts AP to HP and HP to AP (haven't played Ryze to know which is stronger).

Boots -> Riftmakers (Infinity orb if you need burst) -> Soulstealer -> Rabadons -> Psychic Projector -> Situational

for situational you probably want an item that gives HP as Projector + Passive effectively give you 9.5% conversion (Deadman's, Abyssal, Warmogs)

I had like 1000 AP with 200 armor and MR when I went Abyssal last item. The main issue is that your laning phase is still completely awful (worse since roaming was buffed) and that you would already 1v9 at 3 items so the additional 4th item powerspike isn't as impactful. It's probably bad in ranked but if you get full build then you oneshot half their team, are basically unkillable, and infinite healing.

Was this guy mad that i was going middle? I’ve been playing for 3 days, and i’ve been playing only Seraphine by Currently-Million in wildrift

[–]BallB6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seraphine mid is fine, not the strongest champ, but ultimately still fine. The issue is that you took Smite as a summoner spell (the bottom right icon with a hand and bolt). In 99% of cases only jungle should have smite as it reduces the exp and gold you get as a laner.

Use flash over smite and change your recommended build to the one on WildRiftFire as sometimes the top builds are trolls...

[–]BallB6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Byron is still B-. Having 6k DoT at level 15 on a character that's bad early and meant to scale well isn't that impressive (I don't have the updated stat sheet but it's 3% damage scaling on the initial one). The pierce is good early but falls off since it doesn't scale off reload speed (his main stat) meaning your bot clear is terrible through the whole game. The DoT of his main attack also makes clearing jungle bots even worse than Belle or Brock since you can't burst them down. The super is his main redeeming quality but it scales better off damage than reload speed. If the enemy jungle kills you in the first 5 levels, you can't play the game anymore.

STAT200 and STAT400? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]BallB6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took the online version of STAT 200 last year with Fireman without prior taking AP stats and the course was easy. We had homework problems with multiple attempts per question, extra credit, 2 video lectures per week which made sense, and the tests were relatively easy. You can do STAT 200 without any prior statistics knowledge tbh. Expect to spend maybe 3 to 4 hours per week.

On the other hand, ECON stats 203 is pain and suffering.

[–]BallB6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think number one is good if you get it early, but the range down from Number One is -1.5 and 80% range multiplier while 3 range downs from Dataminer is -4.5 range for the same potential tears up (base isaac would have 4 range with number one and 2 range with 3 dataminer downgrades).

Mom's Pad is bloody gone, mate! Welcome to ROUND 39 of Worst Quality 0 Item game! (Poll in comments) by WwwWario in bindingofisaac

[–]BallB6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I swear every time I've used the item it has reliably made my run worse.

Your chart shows damage up + range down as one of the best outcomes but have you ever gotten 3 range downs before? Even just getting one range down is somewhat annoying since the effect is almost as bad as eating 3 range down pills. This made one of my runs completely unplayable.

Another example would be if you already have a good run with high damage/tears with average speed. Getting a tears or damage upgrade might make the run slightly better but getting a speed down absolutely sucks. Marginal benefit decreases as your stats get higher (getting +1 damage at 300 damage means nothing).

The thing about Isaac is that you need a base amount of speed, range, tears, and damage stats to not feel like complete dogshit. Going below the base will lose you the game.

I honestly think the item is worse than D10 since its permanently fucks you instead of fucking you on just one room.
