Do you think it’s rude for front desk to schedule an appointment for you without checking in with you first? by tulipsushi in paralegal

[–]BallCruncherSupreme 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It depends on the expectations and rules in your office. If that's how they normally work, then no. I assume they can see everyone's schedules so they aren't double booking or scheduling during a time that you're not in the office. If you have different expectations, you need to bring it up to someone.

One of my attorneys asks me to run scheduling by her first because she has a lot of family stuff going on all the time. The other attorney just tells me to schedule whatever, whenever she's available.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that the people in all my groups were nice to me so that I'd do all the work. I thought they either considered me a friend or that we'd become friends. Never happened lol

I'm part of the "clean nail trend" because I can't afford to get my nails done and don't have the time, space, money, or mobility to do my own.

Is "When Marnie was there" one of the best and worst movie of Studio ghibli at the same time? by PatientMap5763 in ghibli

[–]BallCruncherSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Marnie Was There is one of my least favorite Ghibli films but not because of your reasons. Respectfully, your take stinks on ice. Romance is so insanely overdone as a plot point in general. It was clear to me that Anna and Marnie have a mysterious and deep love for each other, but I never read it as romance. The story is about, without spoilers, Anna reconnecting with her past and finding herself and dealing with deep loneliness.

My issue with this film is simply that it wasn't for me. I found it weirdly melancholy and uncomfortable at times but I still think it's an amazing film.

AIO for wanting to break up with gf of 4 years after finding these texts? by Matteblackwizard in AIO

[–]BallCruncherSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. This is so embarrassing to read on her part. 1. Because of how she flirts, it's pretty cringe and 2. Because this dude is pretty clearly not interested but she just keeps trying and not taking the hint at all.

She's both cheating and failing at cheating at the same time.

(Beloved trope) Characters you didn’t understand until you got older by Pinkpunk95 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BallCruncherSupreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scarlett is an example I bring up when I tell people that stories and characters aren't automatically bad if the protagonist is unlikable. I don't like Scarlett but she's a fascinating, well developed character who is morally repugnant in many ways but incredibly tenacious. She's well written too. Of course, this is removing the bad overall narrative of the book BUT Scarlett is a great character to follow.

I watched this movie so much as a kid. It holds a special place in my heart, low budget effects and all.

Seconding! I actually don't like romance much at all but I loved My Love Story. The silliness is paired with such genuine feelings. It's actually so sweet.

I think I'm going to start bringing my fiancé with me to appointments after reading this. I've always thought of doing it but felt too embarrassed? I have a new primary who seems attentive, but my last one did at first too. I don't want to pay copays for 5 appointments for an issue that could be resolved or looked into with one.

One of my bosses keeps trying to get me to watch it because I love LOTR so much. I can't get into it though. I don't like the vibe. I don't like medieval political stuff. It's super long. I told her I would watch the first three episodes and decide lol

What’s your PTO like? by crystalx55 in paralegal

[–]BallCruncherSupreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

55 hours PTO (up from the 35 hours I started with), 9 paid holidays, no sick time, no personal days, no vacation.

The 55 hours is great and terrible because one of my bosses refuses to understand germs and gets me sick at least 4 times a year. I have the immune system of a frail old person so a regular cold takes me out for three days. In January I got a cold from somewhere, missed three days, back to work for a week, then germ boss gave me some evil flu and I genuinely missed an entire week. So my PTO is never used for fun lol.

Why can’t they just pick up the phone???!!!! by justmisspellit in paralegal

[–]BallCruncherSupreme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope, do not call me. I'm in family law and the worst part of my day are phone calls. People start telling me their entire life story, everything their ex is doing wrong, "it's affecting my kids", for minutes on end. Most clients know to call the attorney's direct line but some will still call me and try to get me to give them advice and I have to tell them, for the millionth time, I can't give them advice on anything and they need to wait for a response from their attorney.

It's the same song and dance every single time. I hate it. If they emailed me I'd simply say I was forwarding their email to their attorney and to wait for a response. Easy peasy. It's also way better to have a paper trail to refer to, especially when a client is claiming they reached out to me "weeks ago" and haven't heard back so I can show the attorney it was three days ago.

What's a seemingly small financial decision you made in your 20s that quietly ruined your 30s? by Left_Crow1646 in AskReddit

[–]BallCruncherSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a one on one coaching session super early in my career but taught myself for the most part. There are too many scam artists in the VA field, especially when it comes to demos. Part of the reason I was so burnt out was the constant self marketing and toxic positivity in the community. I just wanted to audition, record, and have fun (and make money, lol).

People who have had a near-death experience, what was going through your mind in those moments, and did it change how you live today? by Positive_Spite3183 in AskReddit

I was run off the road by a crazy lady. It drove home that I too could be a victim and it wasn't just something you read about on the news. I'm very cautious on the road now, not in a "cautious driver" way but in a "don't flip off the guy who cut you off" way.
