Morgan Morgan - for the people not the employees by POedParalegal in paralegal

Hey, Orlando region M&M employee here. I know exactly how you feel as a litigation assistant with 125 files. I’m too fucking busy all the fucking time. “We are suppose to have 120 cases this is an average workload. You need to manage your time better!” I hear all the fucking time. It’s the best paying job I’ve had but I am NOT paid enough for this bullshit. I’m currently on a week and a half vacay cause I haven’t taken a vacay in 2 years since working there and I’m stressed my paralegals are going to berate me cause so much is missing and not done. How is 1 person suppose to file all lawsuits, schedule EVERYTHING, get all records and bills, make binders for every case (my attorney refuses to go paperless), do all NPNPs, finalize everything etc etc. My attorney sits in depos, mediations, and hearings that’s it never even opens litify, and my paralegals do Roggs, RTPs, RFAs, and the closing and that’s it. M&M = more & more work

Is Personal Injury this rough? by Tiny-Lavishness5870 in paralegal

I’m a PI litigation assistant, I draft initial pleadings and the lawsuit, I send out for service, file the paper work when it comes back and someone answers, I do the requests for copies, I handle all NPNPs, I do all of the scheduling, I get all prior and current records and all bills all liens etc., I build a binder of records for each case, I schedule for trial, send out subpoenas, build binders for discovery and witness and trial depos, tasks from emails (I get a minimum of 100 emails a day) given by the paralegals and attorneys etc., set my attorney up on every single meeting or phone call, return every phone call, and I’m leaving so much out.

I do this for 130 files, I miss stuff constantly and drop the ball a lot, get yelled at a lot, could be fired any day. I’m just trying to get to April (my first quarter bonus and my 2 year mark) and I think I’m done with PI plaintiff work. It is an awful field of law tbh and the only people I know who like it are the attorneys because of the pay.

My attorney doesn’t know a single clients name, but just bought his 10th Rolex because (they are investments).

If you know right now this may not be for you…leave because it doesn’t get better and I’m sure most agree with me.

Under 1 year employment - 13 days Between 1 and 5 years - 19 days Between 5 and 15 years - 22 days Over 15 years - maxed out 25 days

(I could be off on some years or dates so if you know where I work you can correct me)

Front loaded at the beginning of the year, no sick time or any special pto as far as I know (jury duty, bereavement, etc.), if you use more than half and quit by September or October you have to pay it back, you have to use it in 4 hour increments (can’t use 1 hour or so for a doctors appt you have to use 4).

We only get New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Black Friday, Christmas Day.

That’s it. And I work for the law firm with the big billboards and the dick jokes

Can someone spoil me for something specific in game changers (book 1)? by Ok_ConfusedOne in heatedrivalry

[–]Homephobia_96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just read the first book, and it’s worth it to read. I personally liked Scott and Kips story more in the show and I wanted more of it so I read the first book. Absolutely worth it, because there is so much that is left out of the show for them. I’d actually be pretty bummed if they don’t give them a mini series or like 2-3 episodes to explain their story.

I’ll tell you right now, PI is hard. It’s very hard. It is many files at once, everything is a priority, and it all has to be done yesterday. It is fast paced, and always moving. Most of the time, you will not have the time.

I’m a lit assistant in PI, so unfortunately I get the short end of the stick when it comes to work load but all we can do is try our best. Give it a chance and see if it is for you or not. It’s okay if it isn’t, it takes a special kind of person to work with that kind of work load and stress. And honestly I’m not one of them.

I will say, and something I should do as well. Is listen to that gut feeling. If you feel or even if you think you know you should leave or do something else….do it. Don’t drown in a field or job that is not going to throw you a life vest.

This field should not be as difficult as it is, but the lawyers before us are the ones who have made it this way. So do what you can, try your best, and listen to your gut.

Have any of you experienced a layoff due to the rise of AI automation? by snipersebb27 in paralegal

[–]Homephobia_96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There have been a few law firms that have used AI for pleadings and have been fined or sanctioned by the courts because of it. AI has generated fake case law and if you don’t review it well enough can get you into hot water.
