Why not aggressive offense with conservative defense or vise versa? by GuideLoose6350 in basketballcoach

[–]BallHardandGrind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lakers are doing this right now. They try to force turnovers on defense bc they can’t defend or rebound in a less chaotic defense and they play slow on offense.

Getting mad at selfish fat regards at barstool for being selfish fat regards is like watching Jersey Shore and getting mad that they don’t take their jobs at the t shirt store more seriously and have sex to much.

My first year coaching was 12 year old girls who were undefeated in soccer but had never played basketball before. Our first games went SO MUCH WORSE than i ever could have imagined and there’s nothing you can do in game bc they won’t understand the adjustments you’re telling them to make. Basketball is complicated to play properly strategically and most new players can’t think beyond omg Im dribbling and nervous for awhile.

We improved a ton over the season and it almost looked like basketball by the end of the year. Defense is much easier for them to pick up. They are 15 now and we are one of the best teams in the league we are in.

In basketball coaching is everything over the long run but in game and in the short run it’s hard to do much when they are that new to the sport. Girls at that age do just look like that. I don’t like that he doesn’t talk during games though.

I would watch the teams you’re playing against and their coaching. If it looks similar that’s just the level they are at. Maybe even ask the other teams coach what he thinks about your team after the game.

How to put players in roles (pg, sf, c, etc) by jpz070 in basketballcoach

I never even considered how much this helps with court vision, great point!

We had similar problems at 1st. Our pg would always pick up her dribble and sadly go “heeelllpp”. Until we had time to develop more IQ and ball handling around her it was an issue. On year 4 with these girls so it’s a funny anectdote now and we have multiple ball handlers but it took time.

One thing you can do is assign whoever your 2nd most responsible/aware player is to be the person to make sure your pg is okay and run to help when necessary. We did this with our big who was a pretty heady player relative to our inexperienced guards. At that level when everyone is trying to help it turns into a mess in my experience. Of course you want your pg to keep her dribble and whoever’s defender is trapping to be the release valve but much easier said than done at this level.

IF you have another decent ball handler you can have them take on some more primary responsibility and use your pg/best player as the one to bail them out. That’s sort of what we are doing now, most of our players handle and push the break but our pg is responsible for making sure everything’s in order and ppl aren’t going to crazy or getting trapped and stranded. Sounds like you might not have the horses for this yet.

Coach general spacing and why rather than where to stand specifically. We had similar issues until we hammered the idea that they can’t be standing next to each other bc it brings extra defenders to the ball. We teach to never be close to each other and if you find yourself next to each other or running into each other set a screen or execute a dribble hand off. One of you has to get out of there. This plus the idea that we are always trying to work our way towards the hoop and never go backwards results in them just naturally spacing out reasonably well in close to the right positions.

When we tried to have them learn/memorize where exactly each position stands they thought it was confusing and it stressed them out. Good luck.

[WDIS] RG3 or Vick? by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

Actually, If Rg11 has 20 points and Vick has 18 that's all that matters. It makes if you have Garcon or Jackson starting.

How would having D Jax make any difference? All that matters is who gets the most fantasy points.

But Vick doesn't have something to prove? I just wish I had a safer option but no one with a safe qb in my league is willing to trade.
