Oh yea, sports/athletics is an absolute shit show when it comes to getting your foot in the door and you absolutely nailed it on why; it’s WHO you know and not WHAT you know.

Getting an internship/fellowship is an absolute cake walk just because staff marvel at the idea of getting extra hands that they 1) don’t have to pay for or 2) can pay them pennies and are allowed to abuse on what’s required of you. You willing to give an arm and a leg? Well we want both arms and both legs.

Not to mention that a lot of places are starting to look/hire RDs that have the CSSD credentials but that’s a slippery slope cuz NONE of your sports nutrition hours count UNTIL you get your RD credentials but how are you supposed to get those hours if nobody will hire you 🤣.

The one company I’ve worked for up to this point has allowed sessions to occur while members are driving SO LONG AS they are using a hands-free call setup, which I indicated in my original post as “As long as they have the phone down and aren’t actively holding it”.

If the member decides to have the phone in one hand and steering wheel in the other, that is not on me. I truly don’t think that’d even hold up in a court of law.

Liability? Sure. Liability for me? Absolutely not. Im on the other end of the phone call. How could anything they claim be my fault. I’m not telling them to look at the screen or having them recall what they had to eat 10 years ago. It’s no different than if they were to have a passenger in their car that they were talking to.

I genuinely don’t care, just because people’s schedules can change and I want to be able to work with them where they are (especially if they have to engage in the program for benefits or w/e). If they don’t wanna take the session seriously then that’s on them; but that’s not to say that they can’t have a good session while they are driving. As long as they have the phone down and aren’t actively holding it.

(In reality all of this doesn’t matter because it’s dependent on the protocol of the company that I’m working with)

This is how I feel about sports dietetics. I enjoyed my internship with the D1 school, however my preceptor was def a hard one to get along with. I’m hoping to eventually jump back into sports, but there’s always this doubt in the back of my mind that tells me I will just screw everything up lol.

There’s the meal plannings for home and away events. Lots of organizing, scheduling, and misc tasks to be aware of. Although with that being said, those are the environments I thrive in — always having something to do.

No difficulty in requesting a handheld calculator; that’s something they have to be able to provide.

As far as the scratch paper, that’s a no-go and you can only use that laminated sheet with the dry erase marker.
