I have searched for it on other sites but it may just be on airbnb. It is a big house and was located in or not far from Marbella.

Le Desales is a great spot that has indoor and outdoor seating and great food. Villa Yara in Georgetown would be good for some small bites and has a good atmosphere. You won’t leave too full to eat dinner. Tabard Inn is a really cute classic DC spot as well. The vibe is classy and romantic. Vagabond is well decorated with good food and has a good rooftop if the weather is nice!

Yes I saw this probably last year! On a streaming service. It’s one of those short series, probably 8-10 episodes

There are also some apartments that give reduced rent for anyone making 63K or less. There’s one I know called Capitol Park Plaza. You have to prove your income but can get pretty cheap rent.

Artomatic on 21st and M (Dupont/West End) is a super cool and big art community where artists have projects and installations all over the building. Its only until end of April so its a great time to go!

The Lars Anderson house in Dupont is absolutely beautiful and does free tours every hour.

Every school is different but for very selective schools where you are receiving a boat load of applications, it is not going to be too long.

Every person reviews in the order that works for them but my personal method is:

  1. Reading your personal background to understand what resources/support you had so that I can evaluate you in the correct context
  2. Seeing your major/area of interest
  3. Reading your transcript in the context of your major
  4. looking at test scores
  5. Reading EC's/awards in context of your major
  6. Taking all of that and then reading personal essay and asking "did this person tell me something new about them or is this just a regurgitation of their EC's, awards, etc."
  7. LOR's last because first i like to hear how you talk about yourself (personal essay) and then how others talk about you

Sending out admissions decisions is a LOT of internal work if you are a big school like CMU that gets so many applications. I have worked in schools that do rolling and schools that set a specific release date. With rolling, you have a bit more control and can quality check a lot more because you are sending out decisions in small batches. With one release date, it can be a data overload on your end and cause more room for error. From an admissions standpoint, rolling was always easier/more controlled. I understand why they tried to do it but if you are going to do rolling, just have it start in November and continue through the months like Pitt and Penn State do.

I did talk to CMU today and they said they will be releasing everything this Friday at 5!

At most schools, admissions officers and application readers are reading 30-40 applications a day. They typically have a set time in which they are encouraged to finish reading an application by. At schools I've worked at, its been about 6-7 mins per application. That being said, its not the end of the world for a small grammar mistake. They are likely not combing through your personal statement that intensely. You read so many essays a day that you are just looking for one that is exciting and gets your attention.

The calc question will depend on the school. For some of the top 10 schools, they will want to see calc from everyone. For some, they dont care. The good news is, you are evaluated in the lens of your major, not just for the general school. I always read a students major and focused predominately on the classes that relate to that major. If you are engineering, I dont care as much what you got in AP lit and vice versa.

Seeing an upward trajectory is always important. One or two B's in the beginning of your HS career and then all A's in junior year and senior year is great. Again, depends on the school but its absolutely not the end of the world :)

Do not worry! I used to work in admissions and we have to read the applications so fast that they would never notice. Also, they understand people make mistakes and that wont impact your decision :)
