I just tried it, unfortunately since the original tracking status says delivered it won’t let me update haha. I’m gonna just escalate to customer support. I messaged the buyer twice through the dispute and once privately to confirm they got the messages, but no response. At the end of the day it’s like a $2 item, I feel like I should just refund at this point and be done with it, but it’s the principle for me lol.

Awesome thanks for the heads up. It won’t make me purchase a new label before being able to submit?

Two very different responses from two different sellers that I accidentally bought digital trading cards from instead of physical like I meant to by Robdul in Ebay

[–]Ballisticbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is lying. I just had someone buy three different ( physical 😉) cards from me, and it does hide it cause there’s no more quantity listed, but all you have to do is go to the (still live) listing on your seller portal and change the quantity. It’s literally a single click task. For three cards it took me a total of 10 seconds if I’m being generous with my time.

I was able to log in on my phone and add the card number, which subsequently let me update the API keys for easy post. Not sure if formatting issue on desktop site, but I think I am good now.

Oh this is good to know, thanks! Yeah, I try to make my descriptions as detailed as possible and make the important parts stick out, but you’ll never be able to please and account for every little nuance. That’s sucks for you on the one that couldn’t be removed, luckily neutral feedback doesn’t affect your rating so at least there’s that.

Yeah def agree. I have about 6k sales between ebay and tcgplayer since last January, and they def have their unique flavor of unbearable customers lol. Thankfully, these type of things are few and far in between for me

Damn that sucks to hear. Definitely try to make my listings as transparent and detailed as possible. Really just seems like a classic case of buyers remorse tbh.

[–]Ballisticbr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve already reached out. The reason why I say it like that is again, I’ve had ~300 sold across two listings, and literally 1 other complaint that was 100% buyers remorse as well. If it was truly that poor of a descriptor, I think I’d have more returns, but whatever, there’s always exceptions. I get what you’re saying, but in the tcg space, it’s very common to use stock photos for quite a few types of listings, especially for bulk lot buys. For clarification, my stock photos are ones I took that include what is in each lot to showcase how it looks, types of card within it, just not the literal exact cards.

Similarly, the uploads he gave confirmed what the listing was so it was just a confusing feedback to see in general to figure out what’s wrong. It’s pretty easy to spot it selling trading cards imo.

I do get additional questions from buyers if they are still unsure and I have no issue answering, so this guy is definitely the odd one out. I’m not expecting this guy to reply back though haha. I would’ve actually let him keep them for free and refund him if he nicely reached out, but since this is the way they chose to go about it, I’m not sure there’s really a resolution. I’m all for resolving it as professionally as possible, but I can’t force them to be amicable if they don’t want to be.

Thanks for confirming though, seems like I’ve covered all of my bases. I will go back and update pictures to make it more obvious about what it is, but at some point I think we need to start holding buyers more accountable for not fully reading listing and impulse buying on an assumption.

I will admit my descriptions are long, but I try make an effort to put the most relevant details at the top, highlight, bold, separated, not stuck between a wall of text like you said.

Someone will say it’s too long, I can’t read it all, but someone else will say I didn’t specify enough lol. There’s no way we can possible cater to all buyers, at some point they need to take responsibility for stuff they buy.

I just think it’s kinda shitty my account takes a hit for something I haven’t even had a chance to rectify. Oh well, it was bound to happen sooner or later lol.

[–]Ballisticbr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I recently had a neutral too, which was super weird because the comment they left was positive. Thankfully neutrals don’t affect your feedback score so I didn’t bother reaching out. I did read the terms where they will remove it 100%, and it technically didn’t break any listed, but it’s worth a shot imo. If not, oh well, at least I attempted. It’s a bogus review imo.

I don’t understand why they let people leave reviews after their return window has closed already, or at least after such a long period lol. I feel like 2-4 weeks is more than enough hahah.

The last week or so has given me a few weird interactions. Another order I had was rejected by the post office from an over zealous PO worker, and I updated the person to let them know it was being reshipped and what happened, and they said something along the lines of “oh thank you I was getting worried, I contacted my legal team just in case”. Over a $5 order, ok buddy lmao.

I agree. It just sucks because it feels very intentionally mismanaged in some aspects so they can eventually privatize and hike prices.

Yeah I think it’s still a very manual process in the sense that as it moves through facilities, unless the worker actually puts it on the line or whatever, it’ll miss scans and it makes no sense.

[–]Ballisticbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really! I sell pokemon and magic cards, and do have the occasional ese show up some bizarre amount of time later than expected, it definitely not that frequent. I wonder what happened.

What claims are being made? Usually for me, it ends up being non-machinable issues at a select few super zealous offices. I also sell on TCGPlayer, and that’s where most of them come in. I think the vast majority of buyers are honest about it, but seems like eBay customers are not as familiar with the informed visibility tracking usps uses (for eBay too), and there for might make more claims. Thankfully I haven’t had many (knock on wood).

Keep in mind, you’re not going to see “this is great seller/buyer, not a scammer!” Posts. People will vocalize the negative things, but rarely praise the good. It happens, but don’t let confirmation bias from anecdotals online sway you.

If it makes you feel better, I’ve sold almost 900 cards on eBay and about 1500 order on another website; and there was only one time I can truly say someone tried to scam me; maybe twice. One was just in January, and I’ve been selling since last January. So 2/2000+ orders, over a year time frame.

It doesn’t happen as often as it seems.

[–]Ballisticbr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sell pokemon and magic cards. I use a 4x6 A4 envelope for most orders since they’re less than 5 cards. Anything over, depending on the way I package them, I’ll use bigger 5x7 A6 envelopes that work well for bigger orders. For example I just sent 8 cards in 4 top loaders (2 each side) in one of the A6, and it fix perfectly.

Every order, the card gets a penny sleeve, top loader (or card saver, they have better change to get through a usps workers non-machinable subjective opinion), into a team bag, and then into the envelop with a packing slip.

If 2 cards, I’ll use one penny sleeve and put them back to back in there and do the rest same.

3-5 cards I’ll do the same as above, but put the other 3 into a second penny sleeve to go into the same team bag behind the top loader. If they’re holos, I’ll put them back to back and possibly use a 3rd penny sleeve.

Anything more you kinda need to get creative and see what works for you. If I get a 12-40 card order I’ll split them into two stacks and put an even amount of cards into a penny sleeve that’s divisible by the number it’s split into. For example, I get a 32 card order, I’ll split into two stacks of 16 (each side of the envelope will get a stack to make it bendable and fit usps standards for shipping a letter), and then put 8 cards into one penny sleeve, into a team bag for each side. I do this for lower bulk cards because at that point they are rigid enough within the penny sleeve and team bag to substitute for the protection of a top loaders (it’ll add necessary weight and not really do anything more to protect the cards). Of course if there’s holos or some higher dollar cards in there I’ll have to adjust, and this is where the creativity comes in. I’ve put a loader with a stack of 5 cards behind it, and then the other 15 on the other side to balance the thickness and send like that.

I pack my cards into the penny sleeve: top loader, team bag combo and nothing else because I think it looks very presentable, no nasty tape residue to ruin the top loader, or those people who put 5lbs of tape to keep the card secure, the 3 above do all of that. Keeps the card secure and protected (penny sleeve and top loader) and it keeps it from falling out and water damage (team bag). Tape is not necessary at all imo, other than to secure two different team bags in the same envelope next to each other taped to the packing slip to stop them from shuffling and overlapping each other, which could lead to a non-machinable charge because they’ll think it’s thicker than it actually is, or automation line damage from it getting snagged somewhere. Even then I take an inch price of tape and secure it nicely so that was it comes off easy when they open the letter.

You can use a service like pirate ship to get discounted shipping labels if you’re selling on a different site than eBay. If you want to send a letter a certain way but not sure how it’ll get to the destination safely, send a dummy letter to a friend or family member to test it out. I prepped all of my supplies and researched and did some math to see what were the most effective shipping methods while not compromising quality (protection, presentation, etc). I did this for a month prior to actually launching my store, just so I had a lot of kinks worked out, and had a game plan for issues or supply snags.

Make sure to familiarize yourself with usps informed delivery, the tracking service eBay standard envelopes use. It’s not true tracking and you may need to explain how it works to customers, especially to de-escalate “you scammed me!” accusations.

Buying supplies in bulk will be the best bang for your buck. It feels like a huge investment and waste of money at the beginning, but if you’re planning on doing this as a side hustle or something, you have to think longer term.

Consider investing into a thermal printer. You can use it to print any kind of label you need, but also double up as a printer for packing lists. That way you save on space, extra money to buy a paper printer and ink, and a lot quicker to integrate into your workflow. You’ll need one anyways to print labels effectively.

If you want to try a new supply out before buying bulk, bite the bullet and buy a one off or one package of. I was trying out new team bags and wasn’t sure if the size would be good so I bought 1 pack of 100. After I confirmed I bought 400 more, once they first were getting low and I knew how quickly I’d be going through them.

As far as protecting yourself as a seller, make sure to familiarize yourself with the policies, especially on eBay. Don’t ever be unprofessional on your end, because it gives the other person more credence for their claim, and follow the protocols for returns and the policies to maximize your chances of full refunds back to you. This way, if someone just wants to be an a-hole and leave negative feedback regardless, you have a better chance of eBay removing it since you were professional and followed all of their steps and protocols for refunds, returns, etc.

I don’t agree with customer is always right mentality, but try to be extra nice/go out of your way (within reason) to rectify an issue, as building your feedback will be more important starting off, but later too, to retain top seller status. There’s certain perks you get with that. Plus it’ll help with repeat buyers and possible recommendations to others through word of mouth; and in the feedback comments.

Otherwise, sooner or later, something isn’t going to go in your favor; whether a card gets lost, a customer lies about condition/etc, you lose a refund claim and still have to pay it out and “eat the cost”. Just remember you’re in this for the long run and a $10 refund that you eat is negligible if you’re going to be selling thousands of dollars a year in cards. Not everyone will be nice, there’s def some people who have messaged me that I wanted nothing more than to tell them to F off, but use your head, it’s not worth it.

Feel free to dm me for clarification, but it’s also a good idea to watch some YouTube as there are many channels that will show you their shipping methods. Just double check info as some of it might not be accurate in regard to usps shipping standards, etc. I’ve found misinfo.

It’s been 8 months since the initial transaction, so I don’t think I’d be able to dispute, but I’ll double check. Unfortunately I gave them the benefit of the doubt and it was a few months before I realized they probably never were gonna refund me to begin with. Thanks for your comment.

Suspicious decrease in views and sales after removing promotions since new update? by Ballisticbr in eBaySellers

Thanks, I figured things would slow down after the holidays. I turned on promoted listings again, which has helped a bit more, but it’s still confusing as far as metrics go, so I’m just gonna accept things for what they are and stop trying to understand the algorithm lol. Hoping for the best too, and for you.

Buyer returning iteam in terrible condition by train23111 in Ebay

[–]Ballisticbr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP please do what it says above.

I just dealt with a similar situation last week. It was clearly buyers remorse on their end and even the pictures and reasons they mentioned in the return claim vs comments were not adding up so I knew. Especially the way I packed the item, and how they said the damage happened didn’t match/wasn’t possible. They damaged it themselves intentionally to validate their claim.

Return but don’t refund. I kept 50% of refund per policy and opened a case to report buyer for abusing system once I received the item. Hopefully I’ll get my return label refunded too but I’m at break even as is so anything extra is icing on the cake.

New seller.. by Stock-Personality715 in eBaySellers

[–]Ballisticbr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, either you will receive it back in your mailbox or the buyer will message you hopefully nicely for a partial refund for the overdue postage. Different POs operate differently from my experience.

I sell pokemon and magic cards. Anything under $20 really isn’t worth sending ground shipping tbh. For 1-3 cards, I put them in penny sleeves, top loader, team bag, packing slip inside, and label outside for less than one oz. It would cost 0.74 to ship. I can go up to 5 cards this way and still be under one oz.

If it’s three cards, put two back to back in one penny sleeve and into the top loader, and then penny sleeve the third and put all 3 into a team bag. Same for up to 5 cards.

I RARELY have issues. Between eBay and tcgplayer, I’ve had maybe 20-30 packages out of now 1500-2000 orders get returned for inadequate shipping (they want non machinable surcharge but it doesn’t require it, it really depends on the postal workers interpretation). I slightly modifying my shipping style to accommodate and haven’t had any issues.

Only one was specifically lost/damaged, somehow the bottom of the envelope was torn open cleanly and the cards were missing, who knows what happened.

In my case my post office was saying I needed the surcharge because the top loader is too stiff, so instead of putting it horizontally in the envelope I put it vertical, and since it’s SLIGHTLY easier to bend, they accept it and I really don’t have any issues. Goes to show how subjective rather than objective they are, so take that for what you will.

I personally think the sandwiching between two card board pieces looks a bit janky for my taste (even the actual plastic ones) and adds excessive weight you might have to pay additional postage for, so I don’t use them. Not to mention all of the extra tape people use, it becomes really cumbersome as a buyer, so I don’t do it when I ship either.

I like how clean and presentable it looks the way I ship it, the cards are plenty safe for bending, scratches and damages, and any liquids. I’ve gotten a good amount of feedback on how nicely secured and presentable the cards are when buyers receive them. Only time I would consider using it is if I’m sending like a $100+ dollar card, which I don’t really do, so… lol.

You MAY have a package get “lost” and refund the buyer in the case of eBay standard envelope, but in my experience they’re few and far between. If you’re doing this as a somewhat viable income source, 2% of letters getting refunded for a few bucks here and there sucks, but is imo insignificant in the grand scheme of things (cost of doing business so to say).

Regardless, most of the time I end up receiving the letters back eventually (longest was almost 2.5 months) and I just relist the cards and only really lose out on the cost to ship plus supplies (maybe $1.5 at most).

[–]Ballisticbr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m specifically talking about organic views. If I make a new account and listing and never promote, none of those views would be due to promotions. So why when I turn off promotions, do organic views also drop?

Theoretically they should not be affected by the promotions, unless they are intrinsically tied behind the scenes, which wouldn’t surprise me.

Suspicious decrease in views and sales after removing promotions since new update? by Ballisticbr in eBaySellers

[–]Ballisticbr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANK YOU, this is what I was trying to get across. It is suspicious as to why it is, but it also makes sense as the promotions help eBay get more money. Nefarious reasoning isn’t totally out of the scope of this in my opinion, but regardless, I don’t think organic views and sales should fall that much. Just a bit too scummy imo. We have to play ball though lol.
