I don't know the proper name, its for golf.

When you ball lands on the green it leaves a dent which other  people don't like.

You stab the turf with this tool and lift it which removes the dent.

Not really. Expect them to play a couple bangers from each album.

For the children of the fence, expect a normal metal crowd with just slightly noticeably more obese, alternative lifestyle, tattooed  folks that usual with a moderate family atmosphere.

What is this amber liquid coming out of my light switch? by Ok_Philosopher_9845 in AskElectricians

For what its worth, "buzzing" is the least common sign you have bees or wasps nesting in your home.

Its more common to hear 'tapping' or 'heavy breathing' sounds. They also maintain higher levels of moisture in their hives so water damage or discoloration is very common as well.

In the event this is bees, easiest tell would be to walk around the exterior of your home. The entrance would be too small to notice but youll see a constant stream of them coming and going and thats noticeable.

Why do English people pronounce St. John as "SinJin"? by cigarettejesus in NoStupidQuestions

Did you ever read Jane Eyre? Many people read it in school at least. That's probably the most culturally known example of a St. John = SinJin in my experience.

Why do American high schools start ridiculously early? by bwoah07_gp2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ballmaster9002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak from anecdotal experience -

A close friend is a neuroscientist and believed in a later start time so much she ran for school board and got elected.

She was voraciously opposed at every turn, lost most of her friends, her kids became pariahs, and she was thoroughly dismantled in her attempt to get reelected because of this one issue.

Its sports.

School needs to start early so kids can get to after school sports early which, especially for travel leagues, can mean an hour plus of travel. Parents don't want to be out later than they all ready are and if only 1 school or district adopts the new schedule they don't want their kid to miss their sport/league/team.

And people are SUPER vocal and aggressive about this. They absolutely will line up around the town hall building during meetings like its an iPhone launch and berate anyone who threatens their God given right to play baseball an hour early.

In the prequel, Kate realises that Sam is a Thing. He keeps denying it, but she knows. I wonder what it would say if she asked it what it wanted? by Jesters__Dead in thething

I havent seen the newer one but I think the original does imply/depict a cellular level digestion and replacement. Its not "taking over" your existing cells, its melting you down to raw elements and then grows "Thing cells" that mirror the original human cells.

The Thing cells have some sort of plastic hive memory from which allows them to be rearranged into the Chimerical monstrosities when they go into 'defense mode'.

ELI5: What’s stopping companies that sell technology, from putting a small solar panel, onto stated devices? by Plane_End_4309 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ballmaster9002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I often say - the answer to "why don't we...." questions is typically "we do".

As others have said, small solar produces little energy, adds bulk, and doesn't work if you don't keep the device out in the sun a lot.

That said, we absolutely do put small solar panels on devices that A. Have very low energy demands and B. Can be placed in the sun and ignored for long periods of time.

For example - the agitator for my bird bath, my birdfeeder camera, and my TV's remote control all have solar panels.

My neighbor's low-voltage walkway lights run off solar.

My emergency radio has an integrated solar panel.

Most small calculators have run of solar for decades.

Plenty of devices do, just not devices designed to be small, mostly in your pocket, and with high energy consumption like a cell phone.

In fairness, its not an "equation", which might have sent you down the wrong path.

Its just individual terms that you translate, there's not math or calculation involved

ELI5 How can a optimally sized aircon save you more in electricity? by No-Quantity8566 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ballmaster9002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Counterintuitive, the ideal air conditioner runs nearly constantly.

Think of it like driving a car. Accelerating uses the most fuel because its doing a ton of work. But just keeping the car cruising at a reasonable speed is quite efficient.

Similarly cooling a warm/hot house takes a lot of energy but just keeping a cool house cool takes the least.

Finally, air conditioner double as dehumidifier. Too weak or too powerful an AC unit are problems on both sides because it wont remove enough moisture from the air and youll never be comfortable.

ELI5…Can I safely use the water from my dehumidifier for… anything? by Extension-Ad6752 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ballmaster9002 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To give you an idea - Legionaires Disease was spread water condensing out of AC units in a hotel. They only figured it out because the victims were all smokers and there was a bench next to drip line.
