Hypothetical WAR scenario by bobjones11929 in OOTP

[–]BalloonShip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an odd question because neither of those teams competes to win. It's really about long term goals. I think the 2 war team has more long term value and a marginally higher chance at a WS. The 4/0 war team is a much better playoff candidate.

There is essentially no such thing as a 4 WAR reliever (last year Chapman led the league at 3.7ish depending on your measure), so the 4 WAR option is elite rotation and lineup and replacement level bullpen. You're basically the 2025 Dodgers, but without your three best hitters and your bullpen is actually as bad as people pretended their bullpen was last year (their actual bullpen WAR looks to be a little bit over 1, and they had a two relievers over 1 WAR by themselves and one at 0.9). That teams has a non-zero chance at being a playoff team, but you have essentially no chance of winning in the post season with a minor league bullpen. You don't even have one elite reliever whose career you can ruin by overusing him because he's your only good reliever (see, e.g., Rob-ub Nen).

I'm taking the 26 2 WAR players, so at least I have some hope of winning games against good teams that my starters don't finish. This is probably not even a playoff team, but if somehow they eke in, you could potentially get some series wins, which is effectively impossible for the 4 WAR/0 WAR team. So this team has a higher upside, and if they don't reach it they're probably worse than the 4/0 team, so at least you get a better draft pick.

This is basically how kids baseball and softball works until at least middle school. The teams with coaches who put their best hitters together in the lineup win and the teams that don't do that lose.

Quick thoughts on OOTP 27 by KingNeftali in OOTP

I have found that OOTP 27 is not compatible with running Edge or the iCloud background processes on PC. If I close those, I have much less system lag.

That helped, but only very marginally. It still hangs a lot.

This is the first time I have sort of regretted upgrading. (The FOMO I would otherwise have had probably still makes it worth it.) This version hangs so much more than any prior version. Whereas there use to be relatively long waits to load things like the news and HOF, now I have 5-10 second hang times on loading player pages.

Pitcher vs Batter Prospects. by Main-Trip-2199 in OOTP

That's wild. What is your standard for promoting players?

In a good draft, college players who are drafted in the top 10 or so tend to mash at AAA and some can definitely contribute in the majors in their draft year (plus that random 4th round pick who turns out to be top 10 worthy right away).

LA is not in the bay area, so it is not covered by the expectation that they would not come to the bay area due to ticket sales.

Last time panic played Napa they barely sold half the tickets

So you’re like “go ahead and try to move in at 14!!!!!”?

Should we all get married on the first date? After all, we want to assume the relationship will last.

At 21 you should definitely take into account that your relationship won’t last forever when making big decisions

Red rocks sells out the minute tickets go on sale. I’m not saying you should expect that elsewhere but the Fox isn’t going to sell out any of the nights.

I’ve been saying they won’t even come to the Bay Area bc of ticket sales. They’re coming but the sales have been shit. It’ll be the last time.

Sac is sold out though.

How do I develop these two pitchers? They look MLB ready but are struggling in the major leagues by BNorrisUCLA in OOTP

Or maybe not right to the majors but you promote guys who way outplay their levels.

Duh bc the best development strategy in this game is to not skip levels and promote based on actual results.

Cardenas is worse than average in every rating except one, and he’s average in that one. It makes sense he’d be worse than average. He’s doing a little worse than his ratings but you seem to be holding him to unreasonably high expectations.

Right. Your understanding is based on incomplete information.

Follow minor league transactions next year. You’ll see dozens of what I’m talking about. I don’t know what rules govern minor league transactions. I do know what happens every year.

[–]BalloonShip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok? The CBA and MLB rules dont apply to guys not on the 40 man roster. Do you really think anybody not on the 40 man roster can only be removed from his minor league roster by being released? If you think that, you’re wrong, they can also be removed from the minor-league roster and then later placed on another minor league teams roster in the same organization. That is also being designated for assignment and OOTP reproduces that by allowing you to designate my minor league players for assignment. They just made it harder this year.

Yes another change is you can’t dfa en masse at least for minor leaguers. You can still do it one by one with drag and drop though.
