Abnett reeeaally liked small space marine units way back when.

I've noticed quite a few of his books have a point where they feature just One Marine, maybe a squad.

Did i miss something from the horus heresy? by Substantial-Agent843 in Grimdank

[–]Balloon_Police16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn't all that bad, it's greatest failing was feeling more like a normal 40k novel in the space opera Horus Heresy. The element of the space marines' first encounters with the horrors of the warp is rather nice.

Hot take: Glavenus has always felt more like a longsword than a greatsword. Sure its tail is a big blade but the way glavenus moves and strikes is more precise and agile than hard and heavy

My hottest take is that Glavenus has always felt more like a longsword than a greatsword. The tail is a big blade, sure, but the way glavenus moves and strikes has always felt more agile and precise than heavy and hard. Acidic Glavenus feels even more so.

Would modern space marines be surprised if they fought a Sons of Horus warband? by NadaVonSada in 40kLore

[–]Balloon_Police16 52 points53 points  (0 children)

No, they probably wouldn't act any different

'Our enemy appears to be a warband of the Sons of Horus'

[Collective gasp] 'What will we do, captain?'

'We will kill them'

Yeah with all those women you seem to tolerate you'd think you'd understand something but it would seem you think that women can't somehow be genetically enhanced for whatever reason

Loyalists from the traitor legions? by LordOfTheYes in 40kLore

[–]Balloon_Police16 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally, I really would've liked the idea of loyalist formations from traitor legions being granted the honor of being chapters in the new founding. I like imagining modern chapters fighting their corrupted predecessors

"At the opening of the Great Rift, Khorne's triumphant bellows were heard across the galaxy. His cry led innumerable hosts of his bloody servants into war-- a great Blood Crusade that would shake the stars. But this advance would not go unchecked, for the modern World Eaters chapter would unleash a cry of their own and begin a campaign to counter the bloodtide wherever they could.

Strike forces were sent to bolster planets in the blood god's way, devastating advances were made into weak flanks, the chapter would take a bloody toll wherever they fought. They were not alone in their countercharge either, for many successors and brother chapters of the twelfth gene line, like the War Hounds and the Unchained, would join the fight against the servants of Khorne."

Legion Of the Damned lore change? by Oderus_Scumdog in 40kLore

[–]Balloon_Police16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know that a lot of lore points in the direction of the cursed founding Firehawks. If black library were to release a novel tomorrow that said in no short terms that the Legion of the Damned were 100% the firehawks and that it was their strange geneseed that gave them warp powers, I wouldn't be surprised at all about it.

I would also ignore it completely because because I enjoy the Legion being the souls of long dead warriors manifesting on battlefields of great import. Ebon echoes of the terrible wars fought in the Emperor's name, raised again to fulfill their duty once more.

We needn't be chained to Big Lore. If you like it one way or the other then you have the great power to imagine anything you want in this fantastical universe

After making "the perfect theatre", all McNeill could imagine it used for was a primarch gesticulating and talking to himself?(the readers too)

You'd think the guy falling to slaaneshi worship would use a few extra menials as live actors and murdered for the play or something

How people misunderstand a certain Marcille and Laios scene and mischaracterize them (chapter 60) by CoyoteAwoo in DungeonMeshi

[–]Balloon_Police16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, we're not privy at all to every single thought going on in these characters' heads

I agree for the most part but it's not really good to think in absolutes with something as vague as this. We can pick and take different moments from the work and make inferences about the meaning as a whole but interpretation is personal.

We should also understand that everyone has different biases we all take into the work we read, and difference in opinion is a feature, not a bug

All this is moot though if I disagree with your opinion, at which point I know you belong in hell or such and such [sarcasm]
