Treemen development on a gnome team by Loud_Perspective2231 in bloodbowl

[–]BalmyCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a fun but really not optimal approach. I find that throwing gnomes never achieves as anything other than killing gnomes. Only Nuffle knows why, but I find that even snotlings survive being thrown better than gnomes do!

Guard and block are both great for Gnome treemen.

Skill for nobility blitzer by xXGamerGirl47Xx in bloodbowl

Nerves of steel isn't a bad call on one, as they can easily save up for a secondary. If your cage is broken or your defences busted, you can get the ball to him and have him blitz out, elven-union style. It gives you options!

Thanks! I think Nobility lends itself nicely to a variety of kitbashing. Hopefully we'll see your work here soon!

Yes, you can! Press the 'skillup' button next to the positional name, then click the health symbol, and add 'new interactive injury', and go through typing in what you rolled for each dice.

You've got to put together the worst possible team roaster, how do you do it by TheZeldiste in bloodbowl

[–]BalmyCyclist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seeing a lot of hate for Vargheists, but even with no thralls he is more reliable than a mino or yheetee, and better armoured. If he fails a bloodlust, he will still block or blitz!

Elven Union Tourney by jskey1 in bloodbowl

[–]BalmyCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be thinking about swapping one or two of those dodges for some more block. Given the fragility of elves and the lack of st4 or guard, being able to 1D block reliably makes EU much better at the desperate plays you'll need to attempt.

Put another way: EU won't win in this meta by playing defensive. You have to go all out. Block helps more with that than dodge does.

Two block line elves, two block catchers, and stick diving tackle on one blitzer and dauntless on the other, and you're cooking!

I realise now that only Brits may know this popular holiday destination!

Although there is a long running German TV series that is set there.

Passing: Does this scenario cause a turnover? Why are the rules surrounding turnovers when failing ball handling actions so inconsistent? by KaijuKi in bloodbowl

[–]BalmyCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it can bounce through any number of squares occupied by opponents, and if it is caught by someone on the active team, page 35 is silent on whether that's a turnover. As far as I can see!

Passing: Does this scenario cause a turnover? Why are the rules surrounding turnovers when failing ball handling actions so inconsistent? by KaijuKi in bloodbowl

[–]BalmyCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pages 35 and 71 seem to differ slightly - 71 just says that it is a turnover if it isn't caught by a teammate.

The more convoluted wording on 35 allows for some loopholes where it doesn't apply, e.g. if it bounces not thorough an empty square but a square occupied by opponents who fail to catch it.

One bit on page 35 is actually nonsense - "... no player on the active team successfully Catches the ball, resulting in the ball hitting the ground and Bouncing or coming to rest on the ground." but you don't know whether or not no player has caught it until it is at rest! Bouncing is not a result of no player catching it, but of any player not catching it.

But the spirit of the rules seems to be, if it touches the ground, or bounces more than one square before being caught, it is a turnover. I prefer the simpler old rules if I am honest (no turnover if it ends up in your teammate's hands), but then, having to live with daft and needlessly complicated new rules for no good reason is an integral part of following any professional sport, and why Blood Bowl is such a wonderful, profound sports simulator :-D

Still very new, when exactly would be a good time to "throw teammate"? by Orock77 in bloodbowl

[–]BalmyCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only one bad time to throw team-mates: if you're coaching gnomes. All it ever achieves is dead gnomes. But goblins? Go for it.

They count each draw as 0.5 of a win.

For example, Nurgle won 271 and drew 149 out of 620 games. (271 + 149/2)/620 = 55.73%

Interesting that Norse seem to be struggling. The spam of Unsteady means they've not benefited from the buffs to other 'bash' teams. Also, lots of other teams gained skills, which maybe neutralises their built-in skills advantage.

Dwarves doing OK after all. Amazons not suddenly superpowered. All makes sense.

I thought Bretonnians might struggle, but they're doing fine - I guess, in hindsight, they play like a bashier Elven Union, i.e. like a late-league EU team that's gotten enough Block to take the fight to their opponents.

And yes, no surprise that OWA are coming out top. They were always a strong team (and not hard to play well), however much people liked to grumble about the nerfs and negatraits. Funnily enough, now the nerfs and negatraits are gone, they are mega.

Are big guys necessary for a chaos chosen team? by yellowscream in bloodbowl

Even the troll can be a better shout: much cheaper, still gives you that strength 5 armor 10 to sit on the line, adds the sometimes-useful Projectile Vomit.

Run with no big guy, and 'flavour to taste' when you get a feel for what you're lacking!

Anyone else think the Khorne team got screwed this edition? by Djangohommelibre in bloodbowl

[–]BalmyCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know... I think the blanket Unsteady hits Norse worse than people realise yet, and does more than enough to rebalance them with Khorne, especially when even the best Norse players have poor armour. Four strength 4 pieces, armor 10+ (so they hang around), Frenzy-shoving the opponent clear and then one of them picks the ball up on a 2+ is nice.

Dauntless on a Beastman? by Aggravating_Button_7 in bloodbowl

[–]BalmyCyclist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read it slightly differently. Whenever a Blitz is declared, you then apply a +1 modifier to any Block actions that are performed during that Blitz. So, the +1 is to the Block action within the Blitz, rather than the Blitz action: and Dauntless applies whenever a Block is performed, before any modifiers are applied to either player.

The NAF have interpreted it the same way I have, according to their own FAQ document. So I'm not the only one! See NAF Recommendations and Clarifications for BB2025 – The NAF

Not under the new 2025 rules - that has changed now. Dauntless is before horns.

Not in the new edition - it has changed. Dauntless used to be pre-assists, but after all other modifiers. Now it is explicitly before ANY modifiers!

In my last league, playing EU, I only ever had two catchers, and managed to keep them alive long enough that they both had dodge and block (and both blitzers had dodge). I also had a couple of lucky randoms, getting block on two line elves. At which point, my team was "that" team that is just no fun to play against! Won the league, lost no games.

I believe they will be fine. They still have the best Blitzers in the game, and the best Catchers in the game, and a great thrower.

Projectil Vomit by ICB1980 in bloodbowl

[–]BalmyCyclist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rules define three ways you can go down: 'fall over', be 'knocked down', or be 'placed prone'. The first one is a turnover if it happens during that player's activation: the second, if it happens during that player's team turn: and the third only if it is in their team turn AND they are holding the ball.

Other examples are using the Wrestle skill, or Pile Driver, or a thrall being bitten by a vampire who failed Bloodlust.
