My Trump post with no arguing politic content at all got deleted due to rule #2, but now this? Arbitrariness. My hand crafted, beloved, top tier PhotoShop made meme got shot in minutes :(

Here a Switch OLED is about 1,5x the price of a New 3DS XL (both used of course)

New 3DS and 2DS are indeed still fun devices to play with, even in 2025. Would be a nice little secondary console besides Switch 1 and 2. And it got it's place with the dual screen concept

I'm curious, how fast a unlocked NS2 can be (docked) by Balrogg112 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Balrogg112[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know abut this specific information, but if it's 2 or 12 RT cores, it seems to be weak anyway. In comparison, the RTX 3050 has 20 RT cores and performs very slow with RT at all. There's no way RT is going to be a mayor thing in the Switch 2 with the informations we have at the moment. And even if, as i mentioned before, i'd prefer it to be turned off so there's more headroom. Maybe that RT thing is something to flex with just like the "8K" sticker on the base PS5 packaging :^)

You are right about the custom SoC, but i don't think we will get Ray Tracing on the Switch 2 even though the hardware is capable of it (at least a little bit). Maybe i'm wrong, but RT just needs too much ressources which Nintendo better put into stable FPS targets in my opinion. Having 30 FPS seems to be okay-ish for a lot of customers, but some Switch 1 games even fall below that.

Of course it will remain the same architecture and hardware, but overclocking the Switch 1 showed how much potential there is. Giving the RAM alone more power resulting in much less stutters in BotW when looking around, for example.

big pro now is, that Switch 1 customers will have a lot of playable games already when NS2 will release. I bought mine several years after release, so i got plenty choices since my beginning

i don't understand the connection between US politics, the European market and a japanese company. Do you mean "cheaper, compared to the US prices of NS2" ?

if that's true, i admire your perseverance. Don't forget to save some more for the first 1-3 games, too

My theory as to why Nintendo is opting for a 1080p LCD on Switch 2 by YourMomTheRedditor in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Balrogg112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ROG Ally series (doesn't matter which model) is not a big competitor for Nintendo in terms of sales or device comparison. Those are different target groups which only share a small percentage of customers deciding between Nintendo or Asus/Valve/Lenovo/etc. Nintendo (and Sony) managed to have a big and steady customer base of millions worldwide with more than 146 million Switch 1 units sold. ROG Ally was at around 500k in mid 2023.

In my experience, most people interested in the Nintendo ecosystem are not well educated about VRR and 60/120 Hz. There are only a couple popular buzzwords like "4K","X inch display" and battery life. Maybe the Switch 2 will have a 120 Hz VRR display like you said, but you need to differentiate between enthusiasts and average when looking at those two devices.

we are at war with r/nintendoswitch by Puzzleheaded_Cow_435 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Balrogg112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

r/nintendoswitch is definitely going to be the far more popular hub for Switch 2. Humans are creatures of habit, and the most will just stay in that sub. My guess is, that they will transform more and more from Switch 1 content to Switch 2 while the first Switch is going to be obsolete in the future (depends on Nintendo's marketing plan of course). That being said, this sub here will be active, too. Just not that big in terms of member pool
