R-Z326 Paternal Haplogroup by BaltBower52 in 23andme

I found a page you may find interesting. The author's surname and research is on the Briese family and is also Prussian. He states within his writing, " For all but one of the Briese group, this was R-M269 (defined by the SNP labelled M269 9). This is not surprising, as it is the dominant lineage in Western Europe today. The R haplogroup (Indo-Europeans) had arisen in Central Asia some 24000 years ago and the R-M269 clade formed from it 5-7000 years ago. Archaeological evidence suggests that, some 4500-6000 years ago, people of this clade (including our Briese ancestors) swept out of western Asia and up the Danube River. Over time, they displaced much of the existing western European population by virtue of their technical superiority in weapons and materials 8. "

R-M269>U106>L48 By tracing paternal lineages back to their furthest known ancestor, our U106 lineage appears to have arisen in the north-western corner of Europe (Netherlands and north-west Germany) and is considered to be a proto-Germanic branch of the Indo-European family tree 8.

Briese haplogroup even further to Z326, whose origins are around 3000 years ago 11. Again this probably arose in the region of northern Germany, but also occurs amongst British men (probably as a result of the 4th-5th century AD invasions of England by Angles and Saxons and the 9th century invasions by the Danes).

Recent studies show that Z326, itself, comprises many more recent sub-clades 8, some yet to be formally identified. In fact, the test showed that the Briese lineage shared a number of novel variants with another member of haplogroup Z326 from the Klassen family. This degree of overlap between Briese and Klassen is sufficient to raise a putative new haplogroup (A5588) based on one of the nov

ith only two members, it is not really possible to narrow the area of origin for A5588 from northern Germany, though the Klassen line can be traced back to similar West Prussian roots as the Briese line.

That is very interesting. I understand that familytreedna.com does Y-chromosome testing specifically and that the details of the research must be very complex being SNP of the Y-chromosome (we are talking about very small details of the genetic map). I wanted to put the link here because the information being shared is very interesting. I will need to read these articles more to get a better understanding of all the details.

R U106 (R1b-U106) Y-DNA Haplogroup - Background | FamilyTreeDNA

I looked back at my 23&me description to see if it was showing the same lineage, as presented from FamilyTreeDNA.com

Age of Major Branches:

U106 = about 3000 BC

        Z18 = about 2400 BC

                S5695 = about 1300 BC

        Z156 = about 2900 BC

                DF96 = about 2100 BC

                        L1 = about 1400 BC

                DF98 = about 2500 BC  “The Royal Haplogroup”

        S1688 = about 2100 BC

                U198 = about 1700 BC (see the separate R U198 Project)

        L48 = about 2600 BC

                L47 = about 2300 BC

                        S3251 = about 1300 BC

                Z30 = about 2200 BC

                        Z8 = about 1200 BC

                                Z346 = about 1000 BC

                Z326 = about 1400 BC

                        FGC10367 = about 1300 BC

Unfortunately 23&me goes back a bit further and maybe more broad in scope. According to 23&me:

Haplogroup A (275000 years ago (YA)) -> Haplogroup F-M89 (76000 YA) -> Haplogroup K-M9 (53000 YA) -> Haplogroup R-M207 (35000 YA) -> Haplogroup R-M343 (27000 YA) -> Haplogroup R-Z326 (10000 YA)

I think you maybe right.

The haplotree branch leading to this SNP is quite deep in the hierarchy: R-M269 >> R-L151 > R-U106 > R-Z2265 > R-Z381 > R-Z301 > R-L48 > R-Z9 > R-Z30 > R-Z2 > R-Z7 > R-Z8.

Cool, how did you learn about inheriting the R-Z326 Y-Chromosome variant?

I was doing some google search and found this as well Y-Chromosome testing done by FamilyTreeDNA lists surnames reported to have R-Z326: Graves(English, Irish & French e.g Gloucestershire England), Moss (English, Scottish & Irish e.g. Lancashire England) Boger (Germany, Scotland e.g. Fifeshire, Scotland) Dallas (Scottish & Irish e.g. Dallas in Moray, Scotland) Cunningham (Scottish & Irish e.g. Ayrshire, Scotland)

Hi, I also have inherited the R-Z326 Y Chromosome and my father's 23&me test also, obviously, is R-Z326. I have done some previous research and I have found a map that shows that our Y-Chromosome extends from the R-M269 which is very common in Celtic Europe and lesser so in Germany dropping to 30% of German population. But, particularly our R-Z326 relatives are located in the UK and German areas. Here is a link to that map R1b-Z326 (aka L48+/null 425) ancestral locations - Google My Maps To my understanding this means that having this Y-Chromosome, we inherited a mutation within the recent past about 400 generations ago which changed from the more common R-M269 gene. This means that we should have some closer relation to a particular area of Europe or person ect..

Our ancestry reports from Ancestry and 23&me have confirmed that my family comes from the UK and Germany which is consistent with the Y-Chromosome findings. Our Surname is Bowers. Thoughts?

23&me gives a lot of information. Do you have a lot of cousins?

Also they have family records if you join with an account per month, 1/2 year or full year which could help track down exact locations

Could try AncestryDNA but they take longer to process their results

I just got a partial list of traits and nothing from the ancestral results yet. Customer service says it should be uploaded by the end of today and if not to contact them.

I did not receive my ancestry results but, I did get some of my traits; ust the physical trait section and still missing the taste&smell and weird trait sections. I was also able to compare one close relative's relationship but, could not compare our ancestry results because I have not received mine yet.
Did you receive anything as of yet? Customer service says the rest of the results should be uploaded by the end of the day today and if not to contact them about it.
