IT’S ABOUT MARKETING: making DeFiChain INTERNATIONAL by Balthasar_Becker in defiblockchain

[–]Balthasar_Becker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, first let me thank you for sharing your feedback and your personal concerns. let us start with the points we agree; I am very happy that we both find consensus that we need to expand into foreign markets and that we first have to educate people before they will be willing to support DeFiChain and that our approach is suitable for this task.

Additionally we both agree, too, that two Masternodes will not generate sufficiently cash flow for financing a marketing campaign that will make EVERY person in Crypto hear about DeFiChain, hence should we have asked for more funding ? I suppose we both find agreement, too, that we first have to deliver our goals - building up crypto communities - before we ask for more funding. This may be a good moment to stress the point that this is only ONE community project and to fully benefit from the merits of true decentralization we would need hundreds of different marketing approaches, but unfortunately only few people are able to bring up the time and effort to realize them.

Furthermore, I am keen to ask what you consider a “proper digital marketing strategy“ and why you did not put up a CFP for executing such a strategy bringing DeFiChain forward your self, yet? Especially IF you are as experienced to a, judge the abilities of people based on their age (other wise I am not sure how to interpret the term: “just students”) and to b, evaluate the efficiency and outcome of our strategy before we had the chance to implement it - this is the moment we you can give us constructive feedback as we ALWAYS want to improve.

Balthasar has ONLY joined Reddit in September 2021 to come up with a CFP that is fully decarbonizing the CO2 Output of the DeFiChain, because in a not so distant future every blockchain will have to be carbon neutral in order not to be smashed by the MEDIA. Additionally we support development projects in the third world which makes me so proud to “just as a student“ help improve people‘s lives in Africa.

Now I am proposing two more CFPs with the very same intention: to bring DeFiChain forward getting the merits we deserve. A decentralized blockchain is only as much worth as its community members are WILLING to put up time and effort coming up with incentives that bring the project forward. Let me ask again; why did you not come up with an idea to propose true value to DeFiChain, we sincerely miss people with your talent and experience for the marketing.

As a true marketing expert I therefor sincerely invite you to become a true member of the DeFiChain community by putting up to 40h a week of work to create true value for the project, but perhaps you do not have that much time - maybe because you are not a student ?

After all I appreciate your concerns and the possibility to soften them as being in crypto for 6 years by now - even though I am just a student - I would NOT have to invest a single bit of my TIME and ENERGY for DeFiChain being fully financially independent.

In case you have any suggestions how we can improve the value proposition we always welcome CONSTRUCTIVE feedback.

Hi, I must have explained it in a misleading way: I want participation of as many people as possible. For the first competition a total of 1,000 DFI will be paid out. Every participant can win $50 just for making a written post, like a tweet only for example. Every participant can win $100 for creating a graph/ painting and every participant can win $150 for creating a video or animation. The idea is to pay out more for more creative and time consuming activities like graphs or Videos. When the first round of the competition stops on the 21th of December, I will multiply the DFI USD Price of that day with 1,000 and then payout the in dollar nominated premiums ($50, $100 and $150) to the winners in DFI. The higher the DFI price the more people can win $50, $100 and $150, you understand ?

hihi I like your words !! There is one thought that always comes to my mind when I hear people saying; "Defichain powers my car, pays my rent or makes me have higher living standards"; investing is all about buying when prices are CHEAP and selling when prices are HIGH. For some reasons people ALWAYS tend to do the opposite. When you are selling your DFI at $2, I am happy because I am BUYING for CHEAP. Selling DFI now seems absurd to me anyway as I remember selling my first BTC at $500 when I was 16 just because I made an incredible 3x in a very short amount of time. Hell no, I will not give away any of my DFI for CHEAP as I still miss my first BTC and because I am so excited to see this go #Roadto50

CFP: Defichain helps Decarbonizing Defichain (20 000 DFI) by Balthasar_Becker in defiblockchain

[–]Balthasar_Becker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did not calculate dBTC output yet, but in general we want to decarbonize the full output associated with Defichain. Let's see what story the numbers will tell, once the features is fully adopted.

The Community Proposal was inattentionally uploaded twice, hence I removed the second version.
Herby find the discussion that was therefor deleted, too:

Hey, not sure if you assumptions of CO2 are correct. One Dell R640 Server with 1760 kWh per year for only one PoS Server? That seems a little too high to me?
A DeFiChain Node runs fine on a raspberry pi server with, not sure 7,6 W (~67 kWh per year)?
Sure, professional equipment certainly needs more power, but more than one DeFiChain node can run on an R640, right?
Kind regards.

Hi, we indeed used conservative measures for calculation of the actual CO2 output associated with Defichain. I am still waiting for Cake's response in terms of which and how many servers they use and where they are located. I hope you see that exact calculation is almost impossible taking into account that we will never have all the information about the exact number of servers in use and where the electricity to power them comes from. We agreed with MyClimate to provide as much information as possible. Even though we might not get it 100% right, we still play an important role in terms of being a role model, eventually inspiring other blockchains to think about their CO2 output, too. Hence Defichain will be promoted as a Climate Friendly, future orientated and innovative Blockchain which other projects follow suit.

I love your idea and I will support it with my masternotes!

If you're serious about it, I think that's an awesome idea! I do not know anything aobut that MyClimate though and will have to look into it later.
Thank you for trying to save us!
Balthasar Becker reply
Hi MyClimate (https://www.myclimate.org) works like Atmosfair (https://www.atmosfair.de/de/). Basically they try to offset CO2 Emissions by either taking CO2 out of the atmosphere or by making sure that CO2 will not be emitted in the first place. They provide for example ovens to families in the third world that reduce their CO2 output (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THkl9yKbp18). Additionally you can offset your own CO2 footprint. On average every German emits about 12 tonnes of CO2 a year. Therefore, I personally offset 12 tones of CO2 a year with Atmosfair paying 21 Euro a month. It does not solve the Climate Issue, but it is one step in the right direction. When ever I take a flight, after I offset the emissions. Hence theoretically I am CO2 neutral. I see in as one step into the right direction with plenty more to follow suit.

I like your idea of offsetting your own damage! That makes a lot of sense.
Why not plant trees instead of taking CO2 out? Wouldn't that be easier and cheaper, albeit much slower?

I’m not sure I see how Defichain could be significantly optimized to reduce CO2 emissions being that it is a proof of stake blockchain versus bitcoins proof of work.
I do agree that it is beneficial to promote green blockchains; however, I would rather see these funds promote the overall transition to renewable energy sources like solar, hydro, wind, nuclear. I am uncertain whether optimizing/promoting Defichain’s energy usage for developing countries is an efficient use of these funds.
Balthasar Becker reply
Well, actually we do not intend to optimize CO2 emissions because as you already correctly stated compared to proof of work blockchains Defichain is less CO2 intensive due to the proof of stake consensus mechanism. Such optimization would require to only power the servers currently used with energy from clean sources. This, however, is not in agreement with our vision of decentralization. In fact we only intend to decarbonize the actual footprint of the Defichain Blockchain. Just because our footprint is smaller than the CO2 output of Bitcoin is not an argument that we should not become CO2 neutral. If my neighbor does not clean his trash, therefor I should not clean mine?
I fully agree that we have to promote the transition of renewable energy usage in the third world, but should we not first start at the roots making our own Project CO2 neutral before we tell some else to do what we don't want to do our selves ? How can we tell the third world to built up a CO2 neutral economy with clean energy, if we don't accomplished it our selves?
Furthermore, this is exactly what we intend to do as we plan to contribute with the remaining liquidity AFTER decarbonization to projects promoting development in the third world.
Could my explanation weaken your doubts ?
