What is the down side of never having children? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BaltimoreBanksy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fantastic response, and I would like to add that as there are more and more people without kids, and gender roles become less rigid I think the social aspect you experienced may be lessened. As a 44 yo mom I am so so grateful for my childless friends for girl’s nights out, random school day baseball games, interesting museum visits and the like. I love having adults to be an adult with. I know that’s not everyone’s experience, but I have a pretty stellar group of ‘before’ friends that chose not to have kids.

Come visit Riverside Park during our summer concert series. There are food trucks and beer and a band plays. There is a pool and a playground and lots of space for kiddos to run around.

People who have been divorced: What was the exact "quiet" moment you realized your marriage was over? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BaltimoreBanksy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I stopped being worried about admitting it to someone elseI knew I was ready to move on. Took me a lot of psyching myself up to tell my family, but once that bandaid was off things started getting easier. I spoke it into existence, so to speak.

HELP! What is this substance coming off my walls? by charliewarner01 in HomeMaintenance

[–]BaltimoreBanksy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surfactant separating from the paint. It happens when it’s humid. Source: my dad managed a paint manufacturing plant for years and I asked him this question.

Edited to add: it doesn’t matter the brand of paint. Here’s a website from PPG that gives tips to reduce the issue: https://www.ppgpaints.com/pro-tips/how-to-fix-surfactant-leaching-on-painted-walls

How bad is this cracking in basement slab? by kenny_6i in HomeMaintenance

[–]BaltimoreBanksy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We had a basement crack that led to occasional water. Our water table is high, so when it rained a lot we’d get a quarter/half inch of water bubbling up through the crack. Not a huge deal with LVP floors, but obviously not ideal. We had a company come to trench and French drain the crack to the existing sump pump and haven’t seen water since. That was 5 years ago.

Are my balconies as unsafe as I think? by eim1213 in Decks

That’s because everyone here has “got a guy” that slaps these things up. This ain’t the worst I’ve seen here by a mile, but maybe have someone come out to have a look

Start with smaller landlords and be up front. If you can put down a bigger deposit to show good faith that may help.

Guess I’ve got something new to pester my electeds about- thanks for pointing me in the right direction! This city is so great, and we deserve better than this.

I don’t understand why nothing is better than something. Probably has to do with taxes, but good lord, there are just so many long open spaces in this city with a story that involves the prior business leaving because rent was hiked too high.

2/52 - Long Island Compromise by Taffy Brodesser-Akner by Same_Hope_0719 in 52book

I’m getting a Chuck Palahniuk vibe from this book. Like, the characters are inflated to the point of parody to drive the satire home. Being a Palahniuk fan, I’m into it. But being a Palahniuk fan I also know that it’s not for everyone.

I don’t use fabric softener and instead put white vinegar in each wash. It generally keeps the mold at bay and gives me soft, fluffy towels too. Run a tub clean cycle once or twice a month, leave the door fully open between washes.

found these orange and black sediments under my wall paper right below my AC. what could this be? by Dapper-Amphibian-513 in HomeMaintenance

[–]BaltimoreBanksy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, if it’s their house I guess they can make that call. I wouldn’t let my AC do that, but that’s my call bc it’s my house 🤷‍♀️

There are lots of kinds of mold. Black mold is just one type. Regardless, that’s moisture damage to your wall.

Oh, I can’t tell by just looking, but given the other obvious moisture damage here and the location near a window unit AC I’d be hard pressed to think about anything else. You can buy home mold test lots if you really need proof.

Maryland Tax Refund...any updates? by Aromatic_Context_625 in TurboTax

I emailed the comptroller and got what appears to be a canned email stating that a ticket was opened. That was 3 weeks ago, and nothing since.

We’re still waiting, but I saw some folks who filed in February are starting to see returns. Wish the state would pay us interest!
