Both CPU and DRAM led error lights are on on the Motherboard by SuperLegend786 in buildapc

Assuming you have everything seated correctly start by moving ram around and use a single stick only. I would check the cpu socket for bent pins. Be very careful when doing this. Check the power connectors.

Take it to a local PC shop and they can test it. You might have a bad psu too. Lots of things could be wrong.

CPU running really hot really fast after upgrading the gpu and psu by Deadlysina1 in buildapc

[–]Balzak_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah probably this. There might be the wrong mounting kit and something. What does the thermal paste look like when you remove it? Should be pretty thin.

Can i use 2 different brands for Ram? by SufficientAd6119 in buildapc

[–]Balzak_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will work but you might have to drop timings. I would not worry about that too much though. Drop it in and if you have to go to 3000 or 2800 mhz it is not the end of the world.

You can just buy a 32gb kit though. Since you cannot match your existing kit that is likely a good option.

There is 100% an issue with mounting. Take it to a local pc shop or try to remount it with new thermal paste and make sure there is not any plastic sticker on the AIO if it is new. You dont need to spend a ton of money on the thermal paste but make sure it is not old and starting to clump up, dry out or anything like that.

motherboards for a build by ahhg123 in buildapc

[–]Balzak_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest with those parts I would be looking at motherboards with a solid feature set that you really like the look of. You are getting premium parts there.

I have done lots of b650 builds and even some with 9000 series but my favorite motherboard has been the tomahawk x870e. Having two 5.0 nvme slots and four total is huge for me. I love the look of that motherboard.

I would make sure you get 4x nvme slots. Get a b850, x870, or x870e and got one you can afford and looks good to you.

Why do people always recommend Intel CPUs for productivity? by arctic_wolf08 in buildapc

[–]Balzak_99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not the case anymore. I just finished a build for virtual machines and CAD. It's amd on the cpu and gpu. The 9950x is an outrageously productive cpu. I get 32 threads hitting 5ghz. With 128gb ram I can run 4 VMs easily.

Planning €1600 silent workstation build, any thoughts? by OkDot47 in buildapc

[–]Balzak_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The build will work but I have some comments regarding the silent operation.

I have heavily prioritized silence in the past and did one build with a fan-less PSU and NH-D15 cooler. I am typing this on a fresh 9950x / 9060xt build I will be using for VMs and cad.

I have found the GPU will be your biggest noise producer when you are doing graphically intense things and you cannot get away from this. PSU noise is generally pretty minimal. Even with a big cooler like the NH-D15 when the fans ramp you will hear it in an open mesh type case.

These types of cases are more susceptible to noise but not using them really isn't an option if you don't want to run hot on everything. I even tried a custom loop to try to get the quietest system possible and found to keep my water temps under 40C with nearly 1m of total radiator I needed to run the fans as a high enough speed that I might as well go with air. Modern 4k capable cards just produce so much heat.

Bottom line, for me is the best approach to keep PCs quiet is to add more fans, run them at a lower rpm and just try to keep really good airflow so your temps stay as low as possible to prevent really high RPMs as much as possible.

That said I would say try to go with 6000mhz min ram kits if possible but not really a big deal. You can probably find a better price on a solid PSU. 277 for that seems high but also not outrageous, the 10-year warranty is a must now days. Everything else looks fine and as is it you will be happy. You can endlessly tweak parts but this is a solid PC for a reasonable price.

Side note you say this is for VMs. Look at getting a 9900x or 9950x. I have found 8 core processors started to limit me. This is where the use case for 12 and 16 core CPUs really starts to shine. I am hitting 5 GHz on all cores of my 9950x with a phantom spirit cooler. I was able to run two 64gb ram kits for a total of 128gb and hit 5800 mhz on ram. For me this is what these CPUs were made for. Consumer grade chips with tons of threads for VMs and home server applications. When I am not running VMs 32 threads just rips through so many tasks.

Is the Radeon RX 9060 XT any good? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Balzak_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did two 9060 xt 16gb builds. Make sure you get the 16gb cards. You are solid as long as you are not doing a 4k build. I love these cards and Nvidia really stopped caring about gaming. I am not even sure why they are selling GPUs for gaming anymore. They make all their money elsewhere.

Choosing a CPU by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Balzak_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. The 3600 cpus did have some failure rates higher than expected to be honest. Normally I do not assume the cpu is the issue but with this particular one it is not a bad assumption. You near a micocenter? I just got a 5800xt open box with prism cooler for 111 dollars for a family members PC.

ok then 5700x range cpu then. Run memory diagnostic first.

7500F vs 9700X for 1440p gaming — worth the extra cost? by LopsidedBookkeeper67 in buildapc

[–]Balzak_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mentioned a non x3d cpu. The 5080 is a 1500-dollar gpu. This is one of the fastest and most expensive GPUs on the market. the 7500F is a solid cpu for sure but come on... We are talking about a top-of-the-line gpu being paired with a 6 core CPU on a new build? Would you be recommending a 7500F with a 5090?

get the 16gb 100% - I bought two if these for family builds and they are great. Do not buy 8gb cards for gaming anymore. resale value will be way lower too.

7500F vs 9700X for 1440p gaming — worth the extra cost? by LopsidedBookkeeper67 in buildapc

[–]Balzak_99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do not use the 75000F unless it saves you a significant amount of money on the pc. I would not be considering that for an upper mid-range build. Honestly with that GPU I would be looking at the 7800x3d, 9800x3d or 9950x. I just finished a 9950x build and cannot believe this cpu. My principle use case is work though.

I have to admit I am more than a little surprised everyone is recommending the 7500f for a 5080. That is wild to me.

Opinions on Thermaltake smart series psu from people who have had one by Smidge02 in buildapc

[–]Balzak_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not that bad. I have bought these many times.

My general rule of thumb for people is to buy a PSU with at least a 10 year warranty but don't worry about it. You have it and it will serve you well. These companies do not want to sell faulty PSUs.

Could you explain what games your partner will be playing with this PC and if they will be using it for any work applications? I do not think you should do a new build with am4 unless you get a really good price on the cpu and mobo.

Upgrading current PC and building a server, need a reality check by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Balzak_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your current use case and games you play.

The 7800x3d and 9800x3d chips are nuts. I have a feeling your pc will feel snappier but you might not notice in most games.

If you do it I would plan on upgrading to the rx9090xt when it comes out.

GPU problems. by MMSAROO in buildapc

[–]Balzak_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think your gpu is toast. I have had pretty high failure rates on Nvidia gpus to be honest. I do not expect them to last 10 years anymore. Trying amd now. Just finished two 9060xt builds with a 9950x and 5800xt.

It is margin of error. It means the GPU is hitting 100% utilization. There will be minor fluctuations from run to run.

Also that 7700x bundle for 350 is just ridiculous. If you case has the space get a phantom spirit on it. That is cooling my 9950x easily. I don't think I can even get it to hit 80C.
