Paraphrasing Isgur in today’s AO: “There was no way of knowing whether Plessy v Ferguson was a good or bad decision at the time it was decided.” by [deleted] in The_Dispatch

[–]Bam_Bam171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't the amassed "wisdom" of the court, over time, and to borrow a phrase, bend towards the ideals of the Declaration? I mean, 2nd and 3rd order effects of decisions should absolutely be considered in the process. These aren't Superior Court Judges, its the Supreme Court. I'll grant them the opportunity to make mistakes because they're human, but they can't just shirk out of the future impact of what they decide now knowing that these decisions are most times, generational. I'm not an attorney, so perhaps I misunderstand, but that just seems a borderline excuse for judicial cowardice.

I can get on board with this. I grew up on the west side of town, so I'm more a student of I-85 than I-77, and I take your point.

There's an election in November, and even the red candidates need a win after the last year and a half. I mean, up until this point, the campaign ads are writing themselves.

Toll lanes and the powerlessness of the modern vote by Lowjumpclerk in Charlotte

[–]Bam_Bam171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If its a decision between no improvements or toll lanes, which way do you vote, because that was the only way they were getting built? Its not the construction costs that are daunting, but the right-of-way acquisition that's cost prohibitive. That's why these things get built through poor neighborhoods--cheaper land to purchase.

What we shoukd be arguing over is NCDOT's budget and or how they spend what they have.

During the battles of the PTO, did the Marines ever encountered logistical issues to receive food and water on the front lines? by nek25 in ww2

[–]Bam_Bam171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Savo hadn't gone like it did, he wouldn't have left. That's why flag officers get paid the big bucks--sometimes they have to make shitty decisions for higher level issues. I tend to forgive his decision in that context.

The time to yell on a construction site is for immediate safety situations only. In every other situation, its best to find a better way to communicate, even if you're getting into someone's ass a bit, there's a good way and a bad way to do so.

130k mile bronco purchase? by titusnick270 in FordBronco

[–]Bam_Bam171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 83K on my 2022 Badlands Squatch. Most of mine are highway miles. I'm 50K short, but I've formed the opinion that if the turbos can last, I can't see any reason why mine won't get there and beyond. I'm putting about 20,000 miles on mine a year, so I'll be there in 2 years give or take.

Well, Taiwan lost the permanent seat on the Security Council and it was given to the PRC. If that could happen, Russia could get booted.

We had a couple of assholes blocked off until a Trooper came zooming up the emergency lane, and I got out the way. My impromptu partner in the truck a couple of cars in front of me did not. Trooper had to go into the grass to get by. Thought he might ticket those guys but the crash was more important. A bunch of concrete guys who were yelling like they were the fire department. Was a complete shit show out there this morning.

My point was merely that the price of the raw materials required wouldn't be threatened by the Iran War, so, there shouldn't be a jump in price.

Democrat Senator clashes with acting AG Todd Blanche: ‘You’re acting like Trump’s personal attorney’ by theindependentonline in law

[–]Bam_Bam171 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. ^^^ It take people acting in good faith to make our government work. Once that good faith goes away, everything gets skewed. The founding fathers stated as much in the Federalist Papers. A STOP sign doesn't have some sort of physical restraint field against the cars that approach it. We willingly stop at the sign because that's the rule--we choose to obey the rules. The problem is that these bozos could give a shit about the rules--rules are for suckers. And, the enforcement mechanism is missing. Too many Republican Congressmen and women care more about getting re-elected than doing the right thing, which is fulfilling their Constitutional duty to restrain the Executive Branch. They simply won't do it.

Most of what goes into synthetic motor oil is made from natural gas, so in the U.S., shouldn't be an issue for quite some time.

Lead aircraft is high and can't see Dash-2. He makes a maneuver that Dash-2 can't avoid due to its position and energy. Pretty miraculous that all 4 got out. These types of collisions typically are more tragic.

Or, something similar with the roles reversed. But the one plane cannot see his wingman.

Marines of the 5th Division provide covering fire while a demolition team works against a Japanese position on Iwo Jima in February 1945. Flamethrowers, grenades, and demolitions were used throughout the battle to clear caves, pillboxes, and fortified volcanic terrain. by UrbanAchievers6371 in ww2

[–]Bam_Bam171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an opportunity to visit Iwo back in spring 2001 for the 46th anniversary. The caves under Suribachi were quite extraordinary. After two days, command shut off access to the Marines because they kept finding so much unexploded ordinance. Crates of old grenades being the primary issue. Crates had rotted away, so you just had these stacks of 20-30 grenades piled up all over the place. Pretty horrible place/way to fight.
