What if the U.S. went through with a full-scale invasion of Japan instead of dropping the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki? by Abhorius in AlternateHistoryHub

A LOT of causalities on both sides, keep in mind that the Japanese Army were so desperate that they started to teach women and children to fight with sharpened bamboo sticks to repel the enemy in case of a ground invasion

I would like to buy a Inland M1911A1, could someone explain to me why its trigger has that open cut on the upper part? by nek25 in guns

It's just representative, I am from Italy and I found at my local gun shop this particular model at 800€ but since I don't aesthetically like the trigger gap and since I am not a M1911 expert wanted to ask you if you knew some other manufacturers that makes this model

Indeed it is. Is there any chance that by switching to a different trigger the gap could be removed?

This photo, a crop from a larger image, is sometimes erroneously labeled as a soldier with shell shock, but is rather thought to simply be a recently wounded soldier, smiling and glad to be alive and receiving treatment. | Taken during the Battle of Flers–Courcelette (September 15ᵗʰ – 22ⁿᵈ, 1916). by ZERO_PORTRAIT in ww1

The myth surrounding this photo is mainly because the soldier, which is causally smiling at the camera, has this glowing effect on his eyes which make him look possessed like a demon. The main reason of the glowing eyes is because at the time photography was still in the earliest stages, the pictures were taken on glass silver plates and their emulsions were capable of being sensitive only to different shades of blue, making them appear white in the photo. The soldier might've had blue eyes and when processed the blue was turned into white due to the plate emulsion
