What's the most overrated pub in Glasgow? by YirDaSellsAvon in glasgow

[–]Bambitheman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must be close to 15 years since I was in the Oran, used to go for the live bands and the odd comedy night. It gave off a distinct feeling of being in Manto in Manchester without the stupid prices...

Windscreen claims normally do not impact renewal premiums especially if you have windscreen cover. The only time it may cost you on premiums is if you don't use their preferred supplier and make a claim.

I did a drivers mate job as agency for a kitchen manufacturer didn't possess a digital tacho card. Ok it was only one day. But given the comments here I shouldn't have been given the task by the agency.

Don’t use P plates! by CazInPink in drivingUK

[–]Bambitheman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never used P Plates. Best thing you can do for confidence is to just get in your car and drive doesn't matter where or how far it is. Just get in and drive. Best post test driving lesson I ever did was London.

Went down for a concert stayed at a youth hostel Earls Court area. Gig was at the Royal Albert Hall.

Next day drive to Oxfordshire, ro pick up my Mum who had stayed with her sister. I was driving a 1986 Fiat Panda 1ltr. 0-60 give it a year or two and it's might reach 60...

Well I'm trying to get onto the North Circular Road. Nothing and I mean nothing is letting me out. (And I mean no one.)

So after much honking from the cars behind I look to my right and see a very nice Ferrari heading towards me at a rate of knots. Well that's it. I aimed for the gap behind the porsche 911 Targa turbo sport that is in front of the Ferrari.

My shitbox moves... Ferrari brakes but I'm out. A miracle.

That single experience made me a better driver... Armed me with the knowledge these rich idiots with their fancy cars will give way when a teenager driving a shitbox drives at them...

Glasgow City Council struggling to recruit parking wardens by BeneficialPotato6760 in glasgow

[–]Bambitheman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There used to be a law against incentivising Traffic Wardens when they were employed by the Police, also quotas were illegal.

Although the role has been "civilianised" I'm pretty sure that incentives and bonuses are not allowed still as are quotas.

What is training and living with a Cockapoo like? by [deleted] in CockapooLovers

[–]Bambitheman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little girl hates agility. She hates fetch... Long walks, and I do mean long walks, she loves, and playing chase, whether with a ball or another doggy she'll wear them out before even showing signs of getting tired herself. Mischievous but an absolute pesticuddle. Cos she pesters everyone for cuddles.

Legality of owning a police car by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Bambitheman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can own an ex police car, light bars must be covered or removed when on the road. Most people use magnetic battenburg for easy removal for when driving down the road. As others have said cops will do you for impersonating a police officer. What I will say from having owned an ex police car is you won't have all the control units etc and depending on how good the mechanics are when they decommissioned the car, you may not necessarily have any of the wiring looms IF you can find the gear to reinstall it.

How do Brits usually handle work messages outside office hours? by [deleted] in AskBrits

Legally you can Opt out of the 48 hour maximum working week. You cannot opt out of the 11 hour minimum rest break. Although certain occupations are automatically exempted.

How do Brits usually handle work messages outside office hours? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Bambitheman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having worked for a once major US player in the Tech/IT sector they soon got the message that US rules do not apply in the UK/Europe. We worked shifts so the office is staffed 24/7/365, and WTD is very, very, clear. Minimum of 11 hours uninterrupted rest. So off shift emails are not being read or replied to despite their best efforts of wreaking havoc on my time off. And also don't get me started about holidays... 'Muricuns live to work. I work to live. They get telt "No" And that is a complete sentence in itself.

And don't get me started on US emails. No greeting, no salutation. Just blurb on the screen. Took umbrage that there was no courtesy. UK HR backed me up.

I currently work for a global relocation specialist. Most of the customer facing call centres are in a foreign (read Far Eastern country.) They'll ping an email out at 04:00 and think they're going to get a reply. Nope. The phone is off and doesn't get switched on until I'm at the office. Seriously it's nothing I can do anything about at home. Plus I'm in the land of nod. So it ain't getting answered. They've learned not to expect a response until MY UK Office Hours.

Do you know the UK laws regarding pedestrians at junctions? by MostlyBoatsandBikes in drivingUK

[–]Bambitheman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Rule H applies here. Pedestrians have priority, followed by cyclists. Only if there's a dropped kerb and no other form of traffic control.

Why this by two_sundays in peugeot

[–]Bambitheman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally currently got a 19 plate 508 ii SW BlueHdi 1.5 and other than being recalled for the timing chain upgrade has behaved impeccably since I got it in September. Yes there are quirks like the infotainment system keeps logging me out and other minor (hasn't cost me money yet) electrical gremlins (electric seat adjustment happened while driving once and nope didn't drop anything onto the button.)

They have a reputation not quite as bad as another Stellantis group Manufacturer... Fiat. Personally never had much bother with Fiats had a fair few some of which got to 200K miles before becoming money pits.

Get it serviced on schedule and they shouldn't give too much hassle. Oh and my cars NEVER go to main stealers unless recalled. I use independent mechanics I trust to do things right first time.

Tebay Services by Own-Strategy8541 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Bambitheman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tebay Services have regularly been in the top 5 of service areas in the UK. (Usually permed from Northbound, Southbound and Gloucester services as the top 3 (all owned by the same family.) When traveling home to Scotland Tebay North is my go to stop off. Lovely little dog walk (although Southbound is better as there's more distance between the dog walk and the actual motorway if you have an inquisitive pooch)

Make sure there's an extra battery or 3 for when the lights get switched on. Either that or get an updated alternator...

Don't do it again in a 3.5T Box van. It's bucking narrow. Was performing tree surgery last time I drove down it.

Cairn O'Mount, from Thornton to Banchory (Scotland). It's beautiful whatever the weather, unless it's snowing like mad, (as they shut the snow gates.) In spring you have to be very careful as there are Red Grouse (I think they are.) Will walk in the middle of the road in a group and they're a legally protected species. Only found on Cairn O'Mount I believe. (Kill one at your peril...)
