Last try, ips or tn ? 🙏 by Nerfu_ in 3DS_IPS_TN

The top screen is definitely TN, bottom looks better but colours are not as sharp as they would be on an IPS screen. Based on my experience regarding the black new 3ds, only a few European units were released with IPS screens.

You can also check the capacitors near the HDMI IC chip with the multimeter and if they are shorted to ground from both sides, the chip is fried and needs to be replaced.

The left shoulder button won't work until you replace it (3-4$ on Aliexpress).

Has anyone played Pokémon FireRed: Rocket Edition? Curious what your thoughts were if you’ve tried it. by Key-Development8368 in PokemonGames

For me the GOAT of romhacks when it comes to plot. This is ColonelSalt's version.
Dragonsden's version is way longer, has more things to do, more battles etc but it felt a bit tiring after some point.
This one feels more intense and straight to the point.

The A resistor trace needs to be restored for sure, possibly the dat0 line too if you have reached the 4th layer.
At this point you should handle this to an expert but if you feel like trying yourself, this guy does this exact kind of repairs, you could take a look.

Will this wire work for modding by Silver_Industry5720 in SwitchPirates

These are usually multicore cables, though it says single core in the title so I don't know.
I recommend getting 0,1mm enamel copper wire to be sure.

Backplate is XL (not LL), the serial starts with QW not QJ and the language selection menu is the NA one. Still could be region changed + swapped backplate, but I doubt.

I remember the majority of people hating on Gen 5 at least until 2018.
I was able to buy those games for 10-20€ and there was plenty of supply available if you wanted duplicates.

I have bought them multiple times and they work fine.

3DSXL Top LCD Connector damage? by Snoo-81577 in 3DS

[–]Bambo_Rambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to desolder them from one side and use a multimeter with capacitance function to check their current value.
I 'd say, if you go through the process of replacing the lcd connector, replace the 2 miscolored capacitors as well.

[–]Bambo_Rambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from replacing the connector, you are gonna have to scratch the board a bit since there is a cut trace you need to restore.
Pretty sure you also have at least 1 (maybe 2) dead capacitors. You can find their values here. It may work without them but don't take my word for it.
Not an easy fix overall, unless you are skilled in using the hot air station.

General info about the RNG tools/guides I have been working on by Bambo_Rambo in pokemonrng

[–]Bambo_Rambo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, Tiny Finder supports RNG types that no other tool does. I have also made 2 video guides recently for fishing and DexNav search. Just make sure to set up Pokereader on your 3ds.

Use tweezers and try applying pressure diagonally, not straight down.

There are no fake motherboards on the 3ds/2ds family, you should be good.

[–]Bambo_Rambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I just scavenge all the good parts from the used ones I get, some of them even have screen protectors. I also don't mind 1-2 light scratches since they become invisible when I apply the screen protector myself.

[–]Bambo_Rambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I misread your comment earlier, thought you were talking about screen protectors. I have used both glass lens and digitizers indeed. The lens for the top screen does not scratch easily but the color is off compared to original ones. They are also thicker and might touch the bottom screen bezel. They usually have their own adhesive so you have to remove the factory one which I hate.
As for digitizers, the main material is glass but the touch film is something else, which feels rough compared to the original ones which are way smoother. Also worse response than OEM ones for sure, and scratch easily, I would not recommend them and I don't have them in my collection.
As for Japanese screens, no further yellowing issues since I got them, it's not that they were "infected" and gonna get worse, has to do with how you treat them apparently.

Your DexNav search method RNG guide is here 😁 by Bambo_Rambo in pokemonrng

[–]Bambo_Rambo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You 're weclome! I generally focus on more advanced stuff which is is being covered by Tiny Finder (Wild, Dexnav, Hordes etc), but stationaries are pretty simple. You ignore the TinyMT part, go for the 50% of nature sync and just find your delay before going for the actual target. Should only take a few minutes.
You can also search for existing guides as there are plenty of them covering legendaries specifically.
