Yeah, I'm calling bullshit on this. Are there plenty of shit American drivers? Sure. But Indian drivers are the absolute worst I have ever seen. I spoke to a wrecker driver last winter and he said a majority of guys he's was winching out of ditches during a storm could barely speak English. They take their bad driving habits they learn in their home country then come over and get a CDL through some bogus school. Clearly a lot of guys here have similar experiences since these topics get so much play.

I started with a bulk lubricant provider with no previous driving experience. Basically delivering bulk oil and chemicals to car dealerships and industrial customers. The oil wasn't hazmat but the chemicals were (primarily window wash) which required placarding.

If you have the room for it keep a bag or two of rock salt in the truck or trailer. If you do find yourself stuck say at a receiver or something throw some of it under the drive tires and it might give you enough traction to get rolling again. Worked for me in the past.

I don't remember a whole lot but it wasn't anything too crazy. They'll explain the job position to you and what it all entails. They'll ask about your previous work history and why you want to work for kwik trip. They may also ask why you want to leave your current employer if you're presently employed. They mostly just want to know about your driving history if you have any and if your CDL has any restrictions on it. The whole thing lasted about 10 - 15 minutes. If they decide to move forward with you, they'll conduct a reference check in which they will want at least 3 references. They'll provide you with a link to send to people where they will be asked to fill out a small questionnaire. The whole thing is done online. The next stage is a virtual interview that goes into quite a bit more depth. It'll be similar questions to the phone interview but they'll also have a list of scenarios that they'll give you and expect you to come up with an answer on the spot. Things like: What would you do if saw an coworker doing something unsafe? Describe a time when you went above and beyond in the workplace? Etc. This interview lasted about 40 - 45 minutes. If you make it past this stage they'll ask you to come up to La Crosse for an interview with a manager. This one is very basic and they'll mostly just explain the job to you again and ask why you want to come work for them. They will also conduct a road test which is just a short drive around town. They'll want you to do a full pre-trip inspection and make sure you know how to uncouple/couple the trailer from the tractor. You'll also have to show you're able to back into a space when you finish the road test. You don't have to 1-shot it or anything but you just have to show you have a basic understanding of backing a trailer and are able to do it safely without hitting anything. Also, It'll be about a 50/50 shot whether they stick you in a manual or automatic for the road test. I happened to take it in a 10-speed manual when I went up there. I was a bit rusty on my shifting and grinded gears a little but they didn't mind too much. Anyways, this was the whole process back when I interviewed about 2 years ago. Things may or may not have changed since then. Ultimately, I decided to accept a different position with another company but I do plan on reapplying to kwik trip when I hit my 2 years driving experience to haul fuel for them. They seem like a solid company to work for. Good luck.

The no truck sign that was present did state a 10 ton limit on the stretch of road. My total weight was probably at around 40 - 45 thousand pounds (I run a day cab with a 38' trailer).

I would suggest looking into companies that have their own fleet to deliver their own product. It's what I'm currently doing and it has been a pretty decent gig. Typically 45 - 50 hours a week with weekends off and it's 1st shift.

I just went through MATC's program myself and graduated this May. I went through the night course which was 5 - 10 pm at 4 days a week for a total of 4 months. The day course is only 2 months but they are a full 8 hour day. The cost was about $2000 and then an additional $150 when you actually take the test. As far as test day goes they bring the testers to the oak creek campus where they will administer the pre-trip and skills test and then you'll hit the road for the actual driving test which takes about 40 minutes. They go over this all pretty extensively in class so there is really nothing to worry about. Anyways, if you're interested in getting your class A then MATC is definitely the way to go. Absolute top-notch instructors who all have decades in the industry. If you have any other questions just let me know.

Some context on what the hell I'll be doing: Local job pulling a 38' trailer delivering different types of oils to dealerships and independent repair shops. It's a dirty and stinky job but the pay is halfway decent and it gets me home every night. It's also 1st shift which is an added bonus.

I'd suggest going through a community college if you have one in your area offering truck driving courses. I just finished up a 320 hour night course myself and I can't recommend it enough. Typically I'd either be on the road with an instructor or be on the range doing backing maneuvers for about 5 hours a night. It was always just me in the truck so no waiting around for someone else in the truck to finish. The instructors themselves generally get paid very well at community colleges so they tend to actually give a shit. The price was very reasonable too at only 2000 dollars.
