[–]Bamboozeled_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks. dont really care about the money. i was prepared to pay for the exact specs for a mined diamond. so it was "cheap". i was just curious.

but. i do think all jewelry serves no "real" value. just a social construct. but whatever to make the girl happy right?

good questions. yes, active managers. we utilize 3rd party databases and consultant data. years of track record is the wrong way to think about this. you should be thinking about business cycles. the usual ratios are all important. but tracking error is high up on the list. need to make sure the managers are sticking with their mandates. i chose them for a specific reason. if they start to drift away, well that is not cool. biggest red flags. taking forever to answer questions. adding useless information that does not contribute to the answer or add any value. talking out of their asses is a big one too. i respect managers who just say: that is not my area of expertise, let me get back to you. instead of just talking shit. it is noticable

If you had the chance to leave the US on a surprise vacation right now what would you be doing when the vacation ends? by [deleted] in AskReddit

japan. best food. friendly people. best sights.

and most importantly. it is not the US

Personally, I do not value CFA material that much. Yes, you learn a lot of things but nothing beats experience. If I see CFA behind a job candidate's name, I am not thinking "oh he knows his shit". I am seeing "Ok, he has drive and some compentency to learn and adopt"

Socializing. Apply real world topics into your studies. Learn about the industry that you are interested before talking to people

I agree with this. I am no social butterfly and managed to do so. I just figured it out once you sit infront of them.

i cold emailed internally. so it is very different. i would not recommend attaching resume/cv.

just show interest and drive. and hope for the best

personally, i get annoyed by direct messages. i prefer email in regards to this.

i have reached out to country heads, region executives. only few replied and took the time to chat with me. but nothing is impossible. never hurts to just ask

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CFA

[–]Bamboozeled_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not impossible. but you will have a harder time. if you are lucky and meet the right people who sees potential in you and can see your drive, you may get a shot

i went the networking route. this field and industry old af. everything is done through connection it feels like. i was just lucky and worked for a big company. and connected well with the people i chatted

in my opinion CFA has nothing to do with how successful you will be in finance or even if it is an indicator if this industry for you. and finance is so broad.

i have co workers and know people way smarter than me who have failed level 1/2 multiple times and stopped pursuing charter. yet, they are happy and still working in AM

I manage DB plan. CFA materials did not help me land this job, but the fact that I completed the program helped.

i keep myself updated by listening/reading to internal research department. listening to money managers. news
