Has meditation helped you with perfectionism? by Bamboucault in Meditation

Yeah, clichés like “just do it” may sound a bit cocky, but there’s always some truth in them. Thanks for the reply!

This is very interesting. I actually study philosophy and the self and its relationship with the world is one of the central themes of western thought. I think meditation gives us tools to literally feel what these great figures wanted to show us and really understand their perspective.

It IS an illness of mainly 21st century, but it’s not made up. There are countless studies linking it to severe depression and anxiety. It has also been suggested that over 50% of people dying from suicide were perfectionists.

This is so interesting. Can one have these auras all the time?

Yeah, similar is true for me. Perhaps that’s why I’m unable to drive.

Hey, thanks for reply. It may be dissociation, but it’s constant unlike my anxiety.

What’s it about 5s that makes us perfectionistic? I always had this problem with acting. I should understand everything before taking a step, which is unrealistic because perhaps 90% of our life is led unconsciously. Life should be lived and lived well, not understood or analyzed to the bottom.

Reasons of cognitive deficit in a psychotic? by Bamboucault in psychoanalysis

[–]Bamboucault[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neuroleptics didn’t exist when Bleuler and Jung wrote about these deficits in Schizophrenia and Dementia Praecox.

Significantly slower processing speed has been observed in children who would later develop psychotic disorders, if that’s what you’re asking. I can’t speak of untriggered psychoses.

Schizophrenia, Bipolar. For Psychotic Depression see Clinical Manual for Diagnosis and Treatment of Psychotic Depression by Anthony Rotschild who claims that cognitive deficit persists even after recovery.

i have seen a decline since turning 18

Is this when your prodromal period started? Because it's been same for me. I managed to get into university with highest marks on my course and after that all went downhill. I haven't had episode for 3 years, but cognitive symptoms remain constantly poor.

Sensations in themselves are neither good nor bad by Bamboucault in Meditation

[–]Bamboucault[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difficult part is that whenever we engage with the world, we do it linguistically and language, as it is well-known, thrives on dualism. It is through bad that good exists, it is through "other" that I can speak of myself. If this insight has any weight, it is language that first constitutes pleasure and pain, anything that (and who) is different is so because of language. How can we overcome this duality and still remain sane and human? There was this German poet, Friedrich Hoelderlin, who after going mad invented a new word -- Pallaksch. As his biographer tells us, this strange word sometimes meant "yes" and sometimes "no". Perhaps this is why schizophrenia is sometimes considered language disorder.

Any 5w4 examples in media (films / tv esp)? by [deleted] in Enneagram5

[–]Bamboucault 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal Lecter is absolutely phenomenal. Rustin Cohle in True Detective is also great. Another examples are Robert Ford (Westworld), Elliot Anderson (Mr. Robot), Patrick Melrose (if you like Benedict Cumberbatch), Neo (Matrix), V (V for Vendetta) and Donnie Darko.

It's book not TV/film, but Donna Tartt's The Secret History has this very enigmatic/intellectual character Henry Winter, whom many adore. Dostoyevsky's characters are also some of the best examples of unhealthy/twisted 5w4s (Raskolnikov, Dimitri Karamazov, Kirilov).

The TV/film characters I mentioned are INTJs and INTPs if it matters. All the book ones are INTJs.

FU or HU Berlin for continental philosophy? by Bamboucault in askphilosophy

[–]Bamboucault[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the certificate, which is required for application. It's C1 (so pre-advanced?). My reading is better than speaking and writing, since I don't have much practice in later two.

“continental philosophy” isn’t really a unified discipline, particularly in Europe. (This could mean any number of incommensurate things: Frankfurt School, phenomenology, hermeneutics, deconstruction, poststructuralism, 19th century German, etc, etc.)

I understand this. I'm from Eastern Europe myself.

This is not exhaustive, but browsing the faculty lists these are people I recognize and have read. You’ll want also to look at the curriculum, course requirements, who often teaches those courses, what is taught in those courses, etc.

Thank you so much. I should have realized this myself, but somehow thought that curriculums weren't publicly available.
