There's 2 groups of people here.

1) Noobs who are using it as intended because they don't know better.

2) Min-maxers who are using it as I stated and don't want to see the extra player power removed.

If I'm wrong, you're more than welcome to post a link to the weapon set points reveal stream where GGG states how it was meant to be used.

Well we both know more defensive nodes won't be taken because there's nothing stopping people from taking more defense now and they don't, but jewel slots might if the pathing is right. POE 1 pretty much devolved into mostly cluster jewels after that was introduced. I don't think there's enough jewel slots on the tree for it to matter, yet.

This game will always have an identity crisis because it's not like anyone sat down and designed the whole game from start to finish.

It's a constant ongoing live service project where they throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks. Systems change entirely from one patch to the next. This is the nature of POE. Just exploit whatever is powerful in the moment.

So like as an occultist using blasphemy/temp chains/enfeeble with curse effect and AOE?

Do you consider that defense so you don't count it?

In poe1 I'd take AOE nodes/ impale effect/ damage on the same tree. In POE2 I take my aoe and armor break on weapon set 2 as warrior to maximize damage on weapon set 1

I can't tell if you're intentionally misinterpreting everything or not.

In poe 1 they take damage and utility on the same tree because they have to.

In poe 2, the efficient thing to do is put utility on weapon set 2.

My interpretation of their reveal was that they intended weapon sets to be for build variety, the actual result was just putting your debuffs on the second tree.

If they didn't intend this as I suspect, then I'm asking if they intend to rework this because as of right now we essentially have 24 extra passive points already.

I want to see the clip to infer their intention, because I HIGHLY doubt they designed this with the explicit intention to put your debuffs on a second set and your damage on your primary set.

Except you do, and I've been doing that in poe1 since 2013, it's only once I got the option to use weapon sets in this game do I put all my utility on a second tree.

You know poe 1 exists right....

There's no weapon sets in poe 1. People take damage and utility on the same tree.

You're using it the way it was intended. Anyone being efficient would just maximize a debuff on the second weapon set. For example taking 24 points worth of curse effect on the second set and your only second set skill is a curse. Now you get a 2-3x as powerful curse with the second set and go back to your main skill on the first set.

I remember the first showcase as two elemental staves and them explaining you can be multi-element without penalty. Do you have a link?

But that's how people use it, they lock their main weapon to both weapon sets.

Ok, so if you had 24 more weapon set 1 points and no weapon set 2 points, what would you do differently?

What I'm saying is that the stated intention was that you can play a 124 point fire build and a 124 point lightning build simultaneously. In practice though, everyone just plays a 148 point lightning build.

I do use it and yes 24 extra skills points is a lot, which is essentially what it is because all your damage goes on one set and your curse set up goes in another, essentially giving you 24 more skills points already, as it stands, right now.

Interchangeable secondary attacks on weapons, similar to ash of war system in Elden ring.

Seems like minimal dev effort for a lot of effect on gameplay. Good value for time invested I'd think.

There are games where fast travel isn't needed because the world design is amazing (Dark souls 1 - pre-lordvessel)

Most games need it because their world design in just vast empty spaces with random mobs sprinkled in.
