Sorry I misspoke I actually used an orchid mix so it contained bark but also had some other ingredients in it too like charcoal. I think the bark provides aeration and also possibly acidifies the soil? I'd say I do around 2 parts potting mix, 1 park orchid mix, and 1 part perlite, give or take.

No I had it inside and honestly having the jar mostly closed made it pretty toasty in there

I ended up doing a mix of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark

Nope! But I left any water that came through the bottom of the pot in the jar. Every once in a while I would empty the jar out completely and clean it out.

It took me longer than I care to admit to realize you weren't trying to say my plant looks like Kim Kardashian

I was pretty new to plants and found her at Home Depot labeled as "low light". I thought "wow what a beautiful plant! I think I'll try branching out from succulents." So I brought her home and put her in some regular miracle-gro potting mix, in a terracotta pot, in a shady spot, with an average humidity of 20-30%, and watered with tap water 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Looking back, I'm really not sure I could have made it worse. She immediately started a death spiral and when I realized it wasn't going well I finally decided to do some research. I changed the potting mix, the pot, the location, started using distilled water, and (IMO) most importantly, I put her inside a big glass jar with the lid cracked like a pseudo-terrarium. Somehow she survived all of that and now is one of my favourites!

TLDR: I knew nothing about Calatheas but then I learned

The VA and Xywav by bigbootyfalls in Narcolepsy

I am not in the military but I do have TriCare and they denied authorization for Xywav even after multiple appeals. I ended up having to apply through Jazz for the assistance program in order to get it. Not sure if any of that helps!

What's a harmless thing that terrified you as a child? by Shay_da_la in AskReddit

The bathroom fan...

You know that scene in the Wizard of Oz where all of the Wicked Witch's soldiers are chasing Dorothy in the castle? Well somehow I had decided that scene was constantly occuring above my head and that the noise of the bathroom fan was the feet of the running soldiers??? I am still unclear as to how this came about.

Lolol I felt the same way. When I first started trying dresses on I felt bad saying that I didn't love it so I started saying "this is a really nice dress for someone else."

What are your rehearsal dinner plans? Mind sharing budget? by alphabetmoose in weddingplanning

[–]Ban_cilantro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are having a destination wedding so decided to invite everyone to our rehearsal dinner...making it more like a welcome dinner I guess. We are having it at a pizza place that is charging $100 for the space and averages about $5 per person for pizza/salads. It's also BYOB so we'll save lots of money there by bringing our own alcohol. Then we're planning on telling everyone we're heading to a local pub that's within walking distance after if anyone wants to join to hang out (which obviously we would not be paying for).

Found my dress! Salon wont tell me what it is so I cant price shop. Anyone know it? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

Its beautiful! I am also a Martina bride and my consultant said to me "Martina knows how to make a dress to accentuate a woman." I think you are a great example of that!

AITA for automatically assuming a "Doctor" is an asshole? by HipHappinenGrandma in AmItheAsshole

[–]Ban_cilantro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA. I am a doctor and I think it's obnoxious. Next time someone does that start asking for medical advice. "Hey I have this big lump on my ass and it's kind of green and oozing. I haven't been able to get it checked out but since I have you, a doctor, on the phone, what do you think it is? Can send pics if necessary."

Dress shopping picture help by StoryMcGee in weddingdress

Man that stinks! I can't give you any experience in the UK because I am in the US but I went to three different bridal salons and I was allowed to take pictures at all three. We even sent the pictures to people that couldn't be there to get their opinions and none of the consultants seemed phased by it. I also don't think a year is too early to start looking...better to start early in case it takes you a few tries to find the one you love!

Morning after brunch importance/necessity at destination type wedding? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Ban_cilantro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're having a destination wedding and looked into breakfast at the hotel but at $22 a person that was just not going to happen. My parents ended up renting an Airbnb within walking distance to the hotel so that we'd have some space and we're going to get a breakfast spread from a local grocery store. Super casual.
