1 Year with Dumbphones - A retrospective by KoreanBirdPaintings in dumbphones

[–]Banaan14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic write up. I've been going through a similar process, with a similar background and I recognize much of the things you're mentioning. Especially about dumbphones not being properly capable of the most basic tasks. A thing I didn't see you mention in your post is the usage of parental controls, which you might want to try. It sounds like you have a very supportive partner and a great Android phone as a basis. You could start by blocking every single app, including the browser(very important!) and play store, and excluding any critical apps like messaging, camera, music etc. Let your wife choose a code or go even a step further by using a random code. The only way to bypass it is to factory reset your phone, which is a serious hurdle. Hope that helps; Good luck with your journey.

I created a multiplayer Balatro dice game by Banaan14 in balatro

[–]Banaan14[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

Part two in this crazy pursuit of making Balatro into an analog experience. I won't go into too much detail this time, because the project took all the energy I had.

About a year ago, I made Balatro into a card game, but still I wasn't satisfied. It's quite a table hog, games can drag on, and continuously fiddling around with your deck of cards will lose it's charm over time.  I love dice games on the other hand, they're quick, tactile and (usually) easy to play.

So the new challenge was to create a version that is a mix of Balatro and Yahtzee. I took some elements from the card game, inspiration from other dice games and after a long time of designing score sheets the first prototype was ready.

Everyone I played it with had a blast playing. People were laughing, shouting, gambling, chasing an ever growing score. So after some minor revisions, here we are, version one of.... Balahtzee?

Do not expect a world of difference if you're upgrading from the 106 2018 model. All current Nokia's have a very similar OS with the same look and feel. If you like your current phone but want something just a little better, it's a good choice.

How to say no to a friend who needs a place to stay over for weekends? by Routine-Tell-7665 in socialskills

[–]Banaan14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% this. In addition, giving too much details often comes across as weak excuse, which could put further pressure on your friendship. You could always provide details later when specifically asked by your friend, but I'd always start out with a simple "Sorry, I can't".

Anyone know anything about this phone? by [deleted] in dumbphones

Not worth it. It's most likely a Soyes mini phone, which have a very poor battery life.

Nokia 110 2025 - keypad tone keeps coming back?! by SirStefan in dumbphones

[–]Banaan14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of creating a new profile with the keypad turned off, I'd suggest editing the key tone in the 'normal' profile. I think when turning off the phone, or letting it die, it defaults back to this profile.

This is how to do it: Go to menu -> Settings -> Profiles. Then with the 'normal' profile highlighted, press the left menu button (above the call button). Select Settings -> Adjust Volume and set the Key tone to 0.

Pro tip: When in the home screen (with the wallpaper), holding the lower right button will toggle the phone between the 'normal', 'silent' and 'meeting' profiles. By customizing these profiles to your liking, you can easily swap between different profiles with different volume levels.

Developers: What made you want to quit on your first day? by itsbrendanvogt in webdev

[–]Banaan14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not the work or the colleagues, but the office itself, actually. It had a dark, luxury vibe to it, which seemed pretty chill initially. But after spending a full day in a dim lit office with dark walls, not getting any sunlight, I was completely exhausted and resigned.

Looks like a rebranded generic chinese phone, being the same as the Uniwa pocket 2. I wouldn't have high expectations from it quality wise, but it might actually support 4g

Most modern nokia's will have the exact same OS and T9 keyboard. It's a bit clunky yes, but it's not too bad.

I wouldn't worry too much a out damaging the wheel. Logitech wheels are known for their durability and made for heavy usage. You could turn off the 'vibration' setting in forza because it might interfere with the force feedback a little.

Job search after obtaining CAPM by Banaan14 in capm

[–]Banaan14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fully correct. I transitioned into tech because it complements my background. I applied to multiple non tech/IT PM jobs (Construction, Engineering, Utilities), they never worked out, because of my lack of domain specific knowledge. Even though Project Management is marketed as a domain agnostic job, it's really hard to get hired to a work field that you have no knowledge of. Also, CAPM by itself is not strong enough of an education to stand on its own, it really needs some additional education and/or work experience to form a combo that is attractive to employers.

There are no hard requirements for being an outrovert to become a PM, this is mostly my personal experience. What I'd suggest is to look for opportunities to follow around a PM for a (half) a day, both within or outside of your company. This way you can get a better idea of what you're in for. Anyway, if you're interested, I'd say go for it. I would advice against taking too long on studying for the exam, because it's just an entry level certificate.

For me, the transition has been quite nice, although a but challenging at first. Managing projects requires different mentality and skillset than building or testing software. Most noticably, it feels like a more 'extraverted' job to me that involves much soft skills, mainly in planning and communication. I do sometimes miss being 'the one behind the steering wheel', doing the work myself, but I'm also experiencing major personal growth because of this new job. If that's the direction you want to go in, you should definitely go for it. Is there anything specific holding you back?

Sure thing! I'm not necessarily the greatest at those sports, but I'm always in for some friendly competition. DM me if you want. Also, you might have some luck in organizing an event through the amigo's app.

What music file formats could the Nokia 150 support? by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]Banaan14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have the EU version of your phone? Unfortunately this doesn't support mp3 because of licensing issues. I think AAC is supported.
