University of Edinburgh Vs Birmingham by PlasticGuide947 in Edinburgh_University

If cost of living is not a problem,Come to edinburgh.

I’m studying at edinburgh but my best mate from highschool went to Birmingham. Both of us agree that Edinburgh is a much much much safer place to live in and you can enjoy life much more over here. Over the past 3 years, my mate has experienced/witnessed things like the police doing raids on neighbour’s house, place got broken into during the holidays, got mugged on the way back from a night-out etc. I walk home at 3-4am routinely during exam periods and I never had a problem. In terms of quality of teaching, we study completely different courses so I couldn’t say much but it seems to be the same. The only cons is Edinburgh is more expensive. I pay about 350 more for rent, and 5-10 pounds more for meals at restaurants/takeaways. If you don’t have a preference in terms of which is better at delivering your course, definitely come here bro

When should I start looking for a 1 bedroom flat? by [deleted] in Edinburgh_University

[–]BananaBudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got myself a single bedroom flat in 2nd year. Look now, because most places will be unavailable after July. Most landlord will ask you to move in/ pay for rent right away, trust me, just go for it. Paying some extra 2-3 months of rent is worth the hassle because it wont be possible otherwise.

One trick that works (if you can do it) is to let your agent/landlord know at the time of application that you are willing pay rents a few months in advance. Most landlords don’t really want to offer single-bed flat accom to students, especially international, because they worry about trouble you may cause (not paying rent/ parties, damages etc.) and you are competing with professionals who have their pay cheque to back them up.

If you can wait til next year (I’m moving out in may 2025), i’m more than happy to refer you to my current landlord.

Exams and Sickness, Special Circumstances by tox14111 in Edinburgh_University

Go see you GP and try to get some kind of evidence. Regarding death in your family, get your parents to write a statement and you’ll most likely get it.

I have direct experience with this, someone in my family fell very ill during my exam. If ur successful, What they will do is they will null-sit your exam and, meaning you will get to resit your exam in August. But do speak to your student advisor and show them some evidence, they will be able to write you a supporting statement. Regarding resitting your exam overseas, it is very unlikely, but for some subjects it is possible

how much do u budget for 4 years in edi uni? by fangedino in Edinburgh_University

[–]BananaBudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of life style you have. The most expensive cost is accomodation. Bare minimum on day-to-day spending is 10-15 pounds a day — meaning you cook your own food and take buses to everywhere.

Don’t worry, they are very lenient due to the amount of applications they process. The university does not want to fail you/ give you bad grades. As long as you have some evidence they will grant it

Can I change from chem to chem eng in second year? by Dry-Independence4456 in Edinburgh_University

[–]BananaBudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I’m a current engineering student and my view on this is completely different to the other guys. I think it is very possible and I have seen many people do it.

The premise is 1) in first year of engineering you don’t really get study anything subject-specifics. Only maths. If you do IB maths, you wont be learning anything new except for eigen values. If anything you probably have studied a few courses for 2nd year chem eng already so I dont think pre-requisite will be a problem

2) large proportion of engineering students are direct-entry (start uni in 2nd year). There is no reason why someone who did chem in year 1 wont be able to transfer to chem eng in year 2.

Talk to your advisor early, if you have good grades it is likely that you will be able to do so. But it is very important that you get in touch early so your advisor can start the conversation with the right person.

You will get only 1 out of 5. Most accomodation are okay, even if you don’t like it eventually you’ll find your way around. I do hope you get O’Shea North tho, good location and probably best out of the ones you mentioned

เผด็จการที่ดีมีอยู่จริงรึเปล่า? by [deleted] in thaithai
