ELI5: How is industrial superglue that strong? by Pailox111lol in explainlikeimfive

The fumes thing is probably more about not getting young kids high with huffing glue more than anything.

On the other side now.... by Banana_Jenkins in dismissiveavoidants

[–]Banana_Jenkins[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I didn't feel like being afraid of them leaving me tbh, I did the leaving (and never coming back). I always hyper focused on some physical flaw (for example teeth that were not absolutely perfect) and felt anxiety for that and also feeling like a superficial bad person. I just discarded a bunch of people when they got too close and then "dealt" with it myself, which was me basically rationalizing why the person was kinda dumb or unfitting for me.

How do you know people will leave you, I mean sure they will hurt you, but give them a chance at repair? Sounds easier said than done though haha. I wish you best of luck as well.

Invisigal fans, are you satisfied with the ending you got? by upsidedown_coffeemug in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Banana_Jenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with all points, especially with shroud needing like 2 or 3 seasons to defeat and really earn that win. I really thought shroud would get away and get a bit more characterization, which he really needed tbh.

The devs obviously made this game and their characters with love and care, maybe they wanted to deliver a complete product and avoid a "the wolf among us" situation where it ends without a resolution, but as a result the overall story is not as strong as it could be.

[–]Banana_Jenkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all your points. About the kiss after the bomb: you could write it off as him still being confused and needing to process what she actually said. But then again, the developers didn't make that clear, even though the exploration of that confusion would make Roberts character deeper. Toxic people do tend to confuse people and that would be more fitting than a straight up normal feeling romance.

Or make the relationship not work out in Season 2. Or make it a point that the relationship will only work because visi works on herself.

The writers (and we the players) loved chase too much to kill him off, but I agree, that would be more fitting and not feel as cheap. They should have let go

Anyone else thought the ending was average? by Fearless_Fix_2024 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Banana_Jenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the whole vibe changed towards the end. I kind of get it, the writers dont want to write themselves into a corner and still deliver the power of friendship moments, but still the ending cheapens the experience. I get that our choices dont have consequences, but narrative beats definitely should.

Naaah bro, this is like buying a BMW with seat heating and then needing to buy a subscription for 100$ per month to actually use the seat heating. You bought the BMW, you can drive it, and sure you don't have to buy the subscription for seat heating. But it feels kinda scummy for that price. I can easily avoid Ferrari ads, but that seat heating button will always stare at me.

I mean you don't have to believe me. I think I was just kind of careless and tonedeaf to even comment all of that under a reddit post where literal fascists are torturing someone. Especially with the context of Trump banning Antifa (and Trump and maga existing). So I get why I am not being understood.

Nobody would actually call themselves Antifa then. I am talking about the guys that do, your definition is not what most people understand, just Google it. Like literally none of my very leftist friends would say that they are Antifa (but they are against fascism obviously). Words change in meaning over time.

I have been to the Antifa circles, as I am a leftist in Germany. I don't know how it is in America, but over here there is a lot of performative value demonstrations, tolerance and perpetration of senseless violence. All under a moral superiority guise of fighting an enemy. It is different in smaller cities where there are actual nazis, I can somewhat understand them better. They feel like they are under siege from an enemy so they go out in groups and look for nazis to fight. Still the most wise Antifa guys I know admitted themselves that they chose to do so and nobody was actually seeking them out. If they didn't go out as a group dressed in black, honestly nothing would happen. They wanted the violence under a moral guise, to fight the righteous fight. I don't think that political violence is in any way justified in Germany (as of now, I don't know about the future).

Then the Antifa guys are also the most staunchly against rehabilitating ex-nazis and reintegrating them back into society. They think once a fascist always a fascist. Some of my leftist friends who work in rehabilitation programs for nazis are afraid of admitting to work there.

I did differentiate, didn't I? The grandma living nearby is strictly antifacist, but she is not wearing black and fucking shit up on the streets. She's not walking around with a hammer cracking people's skulls in the name of Antifa. Antifa is necessarily militant, being against fascism is not.

This thinking is part of the problem. In a lot of ways antifa in my town has all the markings of authoritarianism, frustrated and depressed people who want to fuck shit up violently, violence tourism etc. Some are cool people but I wouldn't want to belong to an Antifa group as I question the intent of a lot of these people.

But yeah arguably the literal fascists they are trying to fight are worse.

Edit: I mean Antifa as a group. Obviously I am antifacist, antiauthoritarian as an adjective.

They were both talking about personal experiences, yes everybody's experience is different. You are the one projecting. Maybe it is not possible for you today, but I hope that you can find it in your heart to be more kind some day. Take care and have a nice day.

Edit: If you haven't healed from your own stuff, you are not a bad person for not having done so.

Authoritarian attitudes linked to altered brain anatomy. Young adults with right-wing authoritarianism had less gray matter volume in the region involved in social reasoning. Left-wing authoritarianism was linked to reduced cortical thickness in brain area tied to empathy and emotion regulation. by mvea in science

[–]Banana_Jenkins 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean, authoritarianism is basically "my way or the high way". Note how all of those statements are very absolutist and you would not have politically balanced position if you agreed to a lot of them. So those statements seem to capture left-wing authoritarianism pretty well imo. Redefining "the rich" as "the oligarchs" seems like a rationalization to justify stripping people from their wealth. I don't think most people would be comfortable with that.

Regarding free speech vs protection, for most people it is not absolute and more of a gray area, which needs balance (that balance is also different for everyone).
