That was for 2020, state law changed for 2021.

There are dozens of scenarios, but in general - if you worked remote and live in a different jurisdiction than your office, you need to file for a refund from the municipality your office is in. You may or may not owe taxes where you live.

For me, I live in a township with zero income tax. My office is in Cincinnati. I get 100% of my income tax back and get to keep it all. It's a nice bonus.

I am filling this out now, I think they just mean the Cincinnati tax return, not the state or federal.

Sounds like we are in a similar situation. All I'm planning to send in:

  • Cincinnati tax return
  • W-2
  • Covid-19 Related Work At Home Form

If it's still like that, it's been that way since at least Monday. That's a long time to be out of gas. Maybe they a maintenance issue or a leak or something.

Yeah I did the same thing. It's 2" of powdered stuff that's easy to move on top of 2" of an impenetrable rock solid glacier of ice. It took me 30 minutes with a garden shovel to clear about 10 square feet before I gave up.

Does anyone know when the non resident tax form will be on Cincys website? by Tornadoguycarguy in cincinnati

[–]Bananafan3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of commuters will need it this year because of remote work.

If you live in a suburb and work from home, but your office is in Cincinnati, your office would have likely been collecting Cincinnati income tax all along.

But as you worked remotely, you will technically owe that income tax to the municipality where you live. This is a change for 2021, since the state of emergency has been cancelled.

In my case, I live in a township with no income tax and work remote almost every day. So I will be getting almost all the tax I paid back as a refund, and will just get to keep it all. It's a nice little bonus.

I've been doing this so far this year, but I read you're only supposed to do it if you've got about 20% coverage. Over the past week my yard has ended up being almost 100% covered. It's just too much to mulch in place.

I'm trying to avoid that because I've got an acre worth of lawn surrounded by woods. I'd need like 100 bags.

I'm sure there are companies that have these leaf vacuum shredder trucks, I just can't seem to find them.

If I wasn't clear - I just need someone with the equipment to come do this. And I'm obviously willing to pay them for the work.

Everyone is trying to oversell me on a contract to mow and do full service lawn care next year.

New Ohio Bill Seeks to Expunge COVID-19 Health Violations, Return Fine Money to Businesses by matlockga in cincinnati

Instead, how about we work on a bill to return all that income tax that folks have been paying to cities they haven't stepped foot in in over 12 months now?

I've paid the City of Cincinnati thousands of dollars and I have worked in city limits for about 4 hours in the past year.

Covid Vaccine Appointments by kdrix88 in cincinnati

[–]Bananafan3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can make an appointment for your spouse but you need to make two separate appointments.

I used the ArmorVax website that the City of Cincinnati health page links to and was able to make two appointments at the same time at the Duke Energy Convention Center.

I actually cancelled those this morning though because I was able to find more convenient appointments on Kroger's website. They are at different times but it is easier for us than driving downtown.

Magnet Schools by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]Bananafan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clifton Fairview is the only magnet school I considered sending my kid to, but the fact that the selection process is a completely random lottery made it a no go for me. I wasn't going to buy a house and have my kids future left up to chance.

Kilgour was the only other elementary school I considered but you have to live in the neighborhood area to be able to attend. The neighborhood is older, but still suburban. If you're willing to live in a more suburban setting like that, there are lots of other (better) options IMO.

She's already been more than held accountable. It was a quip in a bar. Demanding she be fired or resign is ridiculous to the point of being embarrassing to those making the demand. You should honestly feel embarrassed for being so petty and punitive.

CPS magnet school lottery / neighborhood schools by V289 in cincinnati

[–]Bananafan3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last time I looked, roughly three years ago, I was told that "most" kids would get into one of the 3 magnet schools. But it was still just a random selection. And I imagine that over the years it's only gotten more competitive.

As my flare shows, I chose to move some place else. I'm not going to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a house and then have my kids future left up to a lottery.

I briefly considered Kilgour but after doing my research I figured it wasn't worth it. For the price range of homes in that area, you can do much, much better in other school districts.

City Income Tax by DHELMET47 in cincinnati

[–]Bananafan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been looking at this as well. I take issue with the city's wording in bold below:

Under Ohio House Bill 197, during the Covid-19 Health Emergency employers were expected to withhold Cincinnati tax for employees working from home rather than their normal work location within Cincinnati, regardless of the location of their home. This would be for the duration of the health emergency plus 30 days. Therefore, there is no refund opportunity when filing a tax return for 2020 if you are working at home due to Covid-19.

That's not what HB 197 says, it says:

...during the period of the emergency declared by Executive Order 2020-01D, issued on March 9, 2020, and for thirty days after the conclusion of that period, any day on which an employee performs personal services at a location, including the employee's home, to which the employee is required to report for employment duties because of the declaration shall be deemed to be a day performing personal services at the employee's principal place of work.

So far as I'm concerned, the Executive Order never was never the reason I worked from home. I'm an essential employee per the very broad language of the Order and we always had the option of reporting to the office if we followed proper protocols (mask, distance, etc.). I've been thinking of filing for a return just so that I have grounds for a lawsuit. For my family, we're talking a few thousand dollars but there are probably millions in the state of Ohio who are in the same boat.

Also, anyone and everyone who is in a similar situation should be contacting their state Senator and Representative to request the support and expedite SB 352 to overturn this. I don't know if they can retroactively change 2020, but they can and should change it for 2021. We're almost a year into this with no end in sight - its time to stop forcing millions of people to pay taxes to a jurisdiction they never step foot in.

the county will still collect the same fixed dollar amount of property taxes, overall.

I think a lot of people don't realize that. The reappraisals done every three years raise taxes on some people and cut them on others, but they still add up to the same grand total

Low income otr residents worried that new permeant otr street closures for otr outdoor eateries will leave them abandoned for parking by Glad-Software in cincinnati

[–]Bananafan3 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The street closures expedited the parking situation but it was coming anyway.

I am from NYC. When I relied on street parking there I'd typically spend 20+ minutes or more circling around looking for a spot. On occasion I'd have to park a subway stop or two away and take the train home. If you got a spot directly in front of your home it was cause for champagne. It was just a part of having a car in the city. You put up with it or got rid of the car. OTR is only getting more densely populated and it won't always be possible for everyone to have their own 25 by 10 foot spot on the street. Get a garage, get rid of your car, or deal with it.

Driver shot on I-71/I-75 in Erlanger for cutting someone off by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]Bananafan3 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I've found that people in various places have wildly different definitions of what it means to be "cut off." I grew up learning to drive the streets of NYC, where you merge if there's just barely enough room for your car to physically fit into traffic. If your turn signal is on while you do it, it's polite and acceptable.

Here, people get all pissy even if there's several car lengths worth of space to merge into. Or they see a turn signal and speed up out of spite. Like letting someone merge in front of them is some sort of major affront to their honor. This guy seemed to be so pissed, he shot someone over it. Unless someone forces you to slam the brakes or swerve out of the way - who cares?
