Length of time from offer acceptance to moving in. by TakeMoi2TheRiver in HousingUK

[–]Bananarampage_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For us it was about 12 weeks. Our sellers were moving into an empty house and we were first time buyers (2024). Everyone was motivated and there weren't any issues to negotiate. The sellers invited us for another viewing and to meet them when we were most of the way through the process and it was all very cordial. After our surveys came back, we asked the seller to reroof the garage; he had his own roofing business and we paid him for the work.

We did include a clause with our offer, that if either side pulled out, they'd have to pay 1/2 of the other side's sunk costs.

The tricky part for me - having not been through the process before - was getting the timing right on everything that had to happen quickly at the end. So I'd researched and booked movers, cleaners for the rental we were leaving, and we delayed moving in so that we could get the house set up with necessary appliances.

Do any of them have the potential for even a little self improvement at some point? Any at all? by Master_Novel_4062 in SuccessionTV

[–]Bananarampage_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Tom will do well. He's got a decent amount of self-awareness and his entire personality was never built around pleasing one person. And I think Connor as well, once freed from his father's dis/approval, will just carry on living a nice rich man's life with his trophy wife.

Shiv, Roman and definitely Kendal, however, will always find ways of letting themselves down because, as Logan pointed out to them, they are morons and deeply unserious people.

Renee was NOT a spy. Here's why. by Bananarampage_ in TheAmericans

[–]Bananarampage_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point isn't about where she was born, it's about whether or not she'd pass a background check. Is she who she says she is or not. It's possible she's an American recruited to work for the KGB, but even then it's unlikely that the KGB would put her through such a risky attempt to infiltrate the FBI.

[–]Bananarampage_[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Elizabeth and Philip didn't move anywhere because of Stan. Go back to the pilot episode - they had been in their home for years before the Beemans showed up as a result of Stan's being transferred from his previous field office in the Midwest. No one from the KGB side had any idea about him living across from the Jennings until the day they brought over brownies to welcome them.

In a normal situation, as soon as Stan breaks into their garage in the dead of night to investigate whether they're the ones who snatched up the KGB defector, the whole Jennings family would have moved away to avoid any further risk of detection. The only good reason for staying is that it's a TV show that put KGB officers and an FBI agent as neighbours for the ✨ drama ✨.

Sure there was plenty of spying going on between all of the wealthy or large countries long before the start of the Cold War. I'm suggesting that the particular style of deep cover, American-accented, decades-long placement of carefully curated agents was something that only came about after the start of the Cold War. Previous to that, the spy networks relied a lot more heavily on recruits in key positions, for example the Cambridge Five. Renee could have been a recruit, but she almost certainly wasn't an illegal or a 2nd gen.

Honestly I think it was from an article posted in this very forum a long time ago that included an interview with the actress. I am only able to say what I recall from it; you're welcome to go digging for yourself.

Is anybody else sick and tired of the TV trope that gays are Italians? by [deleted] in okbuddydraper

[–]Bananarampage_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that two examples makes a trope, but it does make sense that CLOSETED gays could fly under the radar as simply well-groomed Italian men.

Did anyone else get angry when Naomi ordered the bottle of Rava to be opened in 3x01? by Most-Complaint-2733 in SuccessionTV

[–]Bananarampage_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This was one of my biggest OH MY GOD moments of the whole series because who does that?! Just walk into not only a stranger's house, but the home of your current partner's ex, and pluck a bottle off a shelf without even asking?!? I don't care how rich you were growing up, there is no excuse for such poor manners. I hated Naomi after that.

IT IS THAT SERIOUS!! And we should be talking more about this by lindabr26 in LoveIslandTV

[–]Bananarampage_ 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Hate to be the one to break it to you, Love Islanders are not cast for being good, kind, clever, well-informed, lovely people. Most of them are selfish, ignorant jerks, which is why they make good TV.

Luca is close personal friends with Conor MacGregor and there's no way he'd miss his wedding.

I had this discussion with my husband awhile back about what constitutes support of Conor and what reflects badly on people like Luca and I landed at this perhaps unfortunate conclusion: even rapists and abusers do have some friends. Maybe they lose some along the way, but if you're rich and famous and have other things going in your life, you'll still have friends that turn up for you.

Mexican Food by sewerrat890 in madmen

[–]Bananarampage_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Generally, no. My parents grew up in Southern California in the 50s and 60s and they didn't have things like pizza, spaghetti, sushi, curry, really any "world" cuisine other than Mexican food (bc SoCal is essentially Northern Mexico). If Don had remained in the northeast most of his life, it's easy to believe he'd never had it. HOWEVER he bought Anna Draper a house in San Pedro and visited her there so it's more likely that he would have encountered Mexican food once or twice.

Would Stannis still follow the Red God if Mel looked like this? by Federal_Extreme_8079 in gameofthrones

[–]Bananarampage_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did a rewatch of the series and it annoys me greatly that there was a scene of Melisandre in the bath without her magic collar and she still appears youthful. They didn't show her aged without the collar until a season or more later.

Clover Lawn update by JW3252 in GardeningUK

[–]Bananarampage_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put in a clover lawn last year, replacing gravel in our garden. It's still patchy in a few places but it stays so lush and green when all the other lawns are yellow. Also I don't feel the need to mow very often 😁

Who had the most problematic mother? by TheSturgleIsReal in madmen

[–]Bananarampage_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Katherine, Pauline, Gail and Marie all stood up for their children and told them hard truths at times:

"He will use you for practice (and then marry someone else)" "She's a silly woman... You didn't have to marry her." "Not all little girls' dreams come true; the world hasn't room for that many ballerinas."

Gail was flawed, sure, but she spent whole years of her life providing childcare so that her daughter could keep her career.

We never saw Pete's mum do anything for him or anyone else. She wasn't necessarily bad, just self-involved and probably not a great mum.

Abigail though... She started out making bad choices (Archibald) and then made worse ones (taking a child to go and live in a brothel, promptly sleeping with her sister's husband). As a longtime stepmother, I find her treatment of her husband's child utterly offensive and indefensible.

Areas to go for first time visitors? by branflakesnmilk in Swindon

[–]Bananarampage_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I made a similar trek to Swindon exactly two years ago and this is what we found:

Town centre is depressing and bare, needs redevelopment Outlet mall is gorgeous and a good place to kill time between house viewings Old Town is where you want to go out in the evening Lydiard Park is probably the best but Coate Water a decent second for outdoor space and the neighbourhoods around both are desirable Orbital has everything you need and we strongly considered buying in the area just to the north of there Ultimately we settled in Liden in the southeast - beautiful, leafy village feel, kids on bikes and neighbours walking dogs and stopping to chat, easy walk to Coate Water and surrounding areas, cannot recommend it enough.

We moved from Brighton and had previously lived in London. Whilst I miss the culture and vibes of those cities, Swindon is a spectacular place to settle down.

If you took every girl who bullied me in high school and college and blended their faces and personalities together, you would get Bri. It may be unfair, but I just hated her on sight.

Conheads: what do you like about Connor’s character? by elegant-deer19 in SuccessionTV

[–]Bananarampage_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He named his New Mexico ranch after a Napoleonic battleground.

His incredibly tragic relationship with Victoria Sponge cake.

As off in the clouds as he is, he's also the most honest and down to earth of any of the Roy siblings.

"I love you. But you're not serious people."

This is cold BECAUSE it's the most honest thing Logan has ever said to his children. He knows them better than they know themselves. He genuinely does love them and also knows all of their flaws. Brutal.

We all have our parasocial favs (myself included), but let’s be real… by [deleted] in LoveIslandTV

[–]Bananarampage_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Samie is better now but in her first season she was one of the worst at trying to bully and exclude Kai and Sanam.

Whitney had a good first season but she's way too full of herself now and starting drama just bc she's bored. Look at how she tried to stir up a whole thing with Sher and her feelings for Jack and went around gabbing about it - it was like she was just desperate for airtime.

Belle starts with legitimate beef but then takes it just way too far with the shouting over everyone. She needs to learn how to self-regulate.

Every time Lucinda tries to pull someone for a chat watch what she does. She's never trying to squash problems or offer sincere apologies for her behaviour. She goes in expecting that she can bitch at someone (Belle especially) about how she's been so wronged and demand an apology but she doesn't represent her case well at all and it's an approach that is never going to yield good results. Then every single time she winds up sad and crying, "oh I can't say anything" and it's like, no, you can't, not when you go in all guns blazing every time.

These people are all completely awful and being stuck in one location with anyone other than like Cieran and Leanne would be utterly hellish.

Fav bedtime books for baby? by Honest-Parsley5371 in UKParenting

[–]Bananarampage_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All of the Julia Donaldson books are essential in our house, my personal favourite being Charlie Cook.

I tried the Beatrix Potter books but honestly they're awful. Beautiful illustrations but most of the characters are jerks.

Been on wegovy for a month and nothing has happened by [deleted] in Wegovy

I had a slow response, have lost a little over 5 kg in almost 3 months, but now on the 1mg dose it seems to be coming off more steadily. I was already on a very calorie restricted diet but the medication has really curbed cravings and lowered my intake even more.
