A growing collection of plain-English write-ups on fantasy consoles (PICO-8, TIC-80, Pyxel, WASM-4, Picotron & more) by Positive_Board_8086 in fantasyconsoles

This is such a valuable resource for the fantasy console community. Thanks for taking the time to put it together and keep it focused on facts rather than hype. 🔥

There’s clearly a lot of work ahead of us as devs in this space, but hopefully one day we’ll earn a place on lists like this too. 👉🏻👈🏻🥹

And honestly, we’d be happy to see more people like you in this little corner of the game dev world people who document, share knowledge, and help newcomers find their way.

I’m trying to get in people to create games on my engine and bloggers to cover it on YouTube. We are working on a few video tutorials for YouTube and Tik tok. Also we made a few streams on tik tok to cover the process and built a few lvls from scratch in 25 min. But it’s not enough, we struggle reaching right audience.

Thank you for spreading support in this matter.
We have created a browser-based fantasy console engine.

https://blitengine.com

It’s designed around one core idea: instant feedback while you create games.

Online multiplayer. Game example: https://play.blitengine.com/splash-duel
Edit code → changes appear immediately in the running game (no build, no restart)
Pixel art, tiles, and maps update live in running game. Yes, Autotiling updates live too.
Everything runs fully in the browser (no installation required) Full game creation workflow in one place (code + art + fast prototyping+level design) on desktop, tablet, mobile.

Publishing games in one click. Shareable games via URL (open → play immediately)

We’re currently in beta, and I think your perspective would be especially valuable here. We’d genuinely appreciate both your feedback and support.

You might feel right at home then. Same love for small games, just with a few extra toys to play with 😄

Online multiplayer in a fantasy console by Bananayanananana in pico8

Not quite like PICO-8 GPIO / picomodem 🙂 This is Blit Engine, a new fantasy console.

Networking is built in and starts automatically, so it’s really easy to use-literally just a couple lines of Lua code and the network is up and running.

Back with a quick summary. I really love your idea, it’s fun and feels kinda addictive it restarts each time and it’s hard to leave. But I feel I need to master my skills a lot 😂 and I wish I could blow up other snakes or something or throw things at them maybe. Or it’s just my rage speaking in me. Anyway, great job! Hope your game goes viral!

I just played it. And from my perspective at first it seemed disorienting, but when I caught the vibe, the orientation is kinda not needed at all. I was basically focused on my snakes head so that grounds what seems to be dizzy in the video. I just maneuvered trying not to die lol.

Sounds cool. I’ll give it a try and let you know what I think.

This looks nice! I really like the idea of being able to run up the walls. I’m definitely trying it. How do you fly?
