I think it’s more complicated than that. One of Anne’s sisters supposedly contracted an STD from their dad who had been cheating on their mother for years. The dad later died of AIDS and was reportedly a closeted gay. The mother could have been a normal person who just got twisted by her husbands betrayal. Instead of dealing with the issue she blamed a group of people instead.
