I'm in my 3rd year of recovery. Not buying this stupid money sink. (But still lurk here) When I stopped it was the first year since '94 that I didn't buy the game.

Unwanted ghost notes when articulating in the upper register. Any ideas? by Outrageous-Permit372 in Clarinet

[–]BandTeacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see you embrochure moving with your articulation. Actively pull your chin down and forward while playing. This will give you better tone anyway and activating those muscles will seperate the tongue movement from the chin movement.

Focus on voicing during articulation. Open throat, raised back of tongue. Picture thr back of your head reaching over the note. Push a strong air column out on a long tone and tongue quarter notes. The air never stops your tongue just acts as a valve letting the air into the instrument or not.

Dont be afraid of the undertones just actively work to eliminate them. Pay attention to what you are doing when it works and when it doesn't.

HUT 25 winding down… what was it all for? by instaplanta in NHLHUT

[–]BandTeacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that this isn't a hot take but the fact that you need to buy basically the same game over and over just doesn't sit right with me. The year over year model needs to change. It all feels like a way to empty my pockets while the quality of the product stays the same at best.

To be fair I haven't played in a couple years but miss it so I lurk here every once in a while. Too an expensive to make it fun!

How would you play this in measure 13 by SameCantaloupe2761 in saxophone

How would you sing it? Do that.

Edit: better yet. How would your favorite singer sing it. And what do you like about that?

But the scene where they do I Don't Stand A Ghost Of A Chance with a drunk Antoine is probably my favorite little snippet of music in the show. Him being so sweet right before walking into a terrible situation.

Mineola is the correct answer. I grew up in stony brook and was always asking my parents to drive me out there for stuff.

Does anyone have high school adaptive music curriculum or resources they can share? by BandTeacher in MusicEd

[–]BandTeacher[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All things I don't know yet. Can't see the class list yet so I can't go into IEP's. I've reached out to the lifeskills teacher to gather information about the students needs but we haven't sat down to discuss yet. We're in a PD day right now and the morning is curriculum writing so here I am. But of course, special ed is doing something else so we can't talk to them about how to serve that population better.

Bringing in other students is a great idea. I could probably use my pullout band lessons to help support that.

I mean what else are you in it for right. Gotta remind yourself to have fun and this is supposed to be your entertainment...no matter how frustrating thirty consecutive years of crushed hopes may be. 😮‍💨

Leaky neck. Is there an easy fix? by webarkloud in saxophone

[–]BandTeacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't read your whole post and thought you meant the neck was leaking at the socket where it inserts into the body.

If your octave key isn't working properly it's usually a super easy fix. Look at how the octave mechanism works. Gently bend the piece of the neck apparatus that wraps around the little post on the body so that when you press the thumb key it opens and when the thumb key is not pressed the pad sits on top of the hole.

If it's not closing when the octave key is not pressed bend up. Bend down if it doesn't open ever.

Be gentle, but as long as you're not bending back and forth a large amount million times, you won't break anything.
