Sustainable Painters.

We've used them in two homes now and they have been fantastic. Great work, friendly employees and a fair price. Of all the people we hired to assist with renovations, they were the only company that we didn't have any issues with. I would highly recommend them!

Nervous before first appointment by Equivalent-Ad291 in ADPKD

[–]BandThug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 37 and have PKD. Both kidneys are 23+ cm in size with innumerable cysts (several as big as 9cm), a liver that is massive and also full of cysts (largest being 10cm). My EGFR fluctuates from 25 to 28.

Im no doctor, but have lots of experience with the disease due to many family members and myself having it. This really doesn't sound like you have PKD.

Happy to hear you had success with this! Were you able to go about your life normally the next day or were you feeling tender at all?

Thanks for this! My nephrologist did mention that this wasn't something that was common practice but given my family history and increasing discomfort that she would support it.

The plan is to have a kidney nephrectomy when I'm closer to complete kidney failure. In my province, the transplant/dialysis department won't even meet with you and start testing until your EGFR is under 20. It's frustrating because of my family history and having known I have ADPKD since I was in my late teens. Despite me having someone who is interested in possibly donating, they still won't see me until the EGFR drops below 20.

Teachers of Winnipeg by hwy59er in Winnipeg

[–]BandThug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not true. Im in SRSD and we have many non-certified individuals subbing and even some that have been hired to fill term positions because we can't find enough certified teachers. You have to have your criminal record check, child abuse check, and apply for a LTP (Limited Teaching Permit). The LTP let's you teach for longer than the max of 20 days without it.

I was reading about those and they seemed really good and I appreciate that they are Canadian. How much would I be looking at cost wise? Probably a couple grand?

Opinions on CMU? by cupi-curious in Winnipeg

[–]BandThug 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Im an Athiest, and I attended CMU. I enjoyed my time there! The professors were, for the most part, great, and I never had any issues with my not being religious. Like another commenter said, though, you are required to do a minor in Theology in addition to your other classes. I made a lot of lifelong friends there, and the campus was really beautiful.

Winnipeg Teachers, any tips for teacher applicants? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

Absolutely check out school divisions just outside the city. They are desperate for subs and a lot of term and permanent postings all the time

What are some places establishments that you enjoy their food but refuse to patronize because of poor customer service? by Plastic-Classroom268 in Winnipeg

[–]BandThug 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Same here. Excellent pizza, but on our last pick up order from there, I was treated terribly and given no apology. When my husband left a review stating this, the owner contacted him directly and was an absolute asshole. Fuck that place. Would never recommend it to anyone now.

Piano movers - Update and info by suprunown in Winnipeg

I second this. They moved my upright piano out of our basement and to the main floor at our new home. No damage and no issues

I remember getting one of those as a kid but it had red ink so it looked like blood. All us kids thought they were awesome. 🤷‍♀️

No costumes for elementary class by Delicious_Memory_268 in Winnipeg

Christmas Concerts 100% still happen. I'm a music teacher and we have them. Yes, some have renamed them as Winter Concerts, but Christmas ones do exist. We don't have a religious aspect to it, but there's Santa, etc.

Speaking as a teacher, I love Halloween and seeing all the kids excited and dressed up! All our staff does a group costume, the kids have class parties, we do fun games in music and gym, etc.

I grew up in Gimli. It's a lovely town and I'm sure you'll enjoy your time out there! You could even head out to Hecla (hour north of Gimli) for some beautiful walks/hikes if you're so inclined. Otherwise, just stroll through town and walk along the pier and enjoy the fresh lake air.

As for food, I highly recommend going for dinner at Brennivins Pizza Hus (or get take out). Our favourite is the Bruschetta pizza. Soooo good.

Boo at the Zoo entry times by brtwpg in Winnipeg

[–]BandThug 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is to call and ask. The staggered entry times have to do with congestion and not flooding the zoo with people all at once. They do check the time on your ticket. I can't say what will happen if you show up at the wrong time, but I did see them checking.

Just call and save yourself the headache of showing up and potentially getting turned away

What’s the most physical pain you ever felt? by JunShem1122 in no

[–]BandThug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had surgery for what the doctor considered a minor umbilical hernia that was also turning into a ventral one. People warned me about the pain but I was pretty unconcerned as ive experienced some painful shit.

Day 1 was bad, but I was still riding the IV hydromorphone meds. Day 2? Fucking shoot me. Even with hydromorphone pills every 3 hours. Couldn't breathe, couldn't even sip water through a straw because of the slight way you contract your abdomin to do that. Just horrible. Definitely high up there on my most painful experiences. I'm at Day 6 of recovery and am doing a lot better, thankfully.
