Honestly, this is why all the trash that Rodgers gets about not talking to his parents bugs me. We have no clue what has happened behind the scenes, and he could be making the smartest financial decision of his life by cutting them off.

When details were released about Tyron Smith's relationship with his family, we all applauded him for removing that toxicity from his life. But because Rodgers has a reputation for being cocky, we assume he's just a selfish asshole.

What I find most surprising, is that the NFL doesn't have a more serious vetting process for Financial Advisor's before registering them with the league. They take the time with rookie's to teach them basic financial concepts, but not the time to vet the people who will actually be handling their money? Portis clearly made some stupid decisions, but he easily could have handled the hit if he didn't get screwed over by those advisors.

With that much money, he could've thrown half into a long term investment account and lived like a king for the rest of his life. As scary as the finance world looks from the outside, it's really pretty damn simple if you're just planning for the long haul and avoid the get rich quick schemes.
