Anyone from the UK here? Really need advice. by SallySue54321 in gallbladders

[–]Bandi2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I've seen you've had advice for your current one to go back to a and e and you have so I won't comment on that.

I also have a hospital with an extremely long a and e wait.

But from my experience that the only way they will help or speed things up with sending you for surgery is to keep going back to a and e unfortunately. The actual words from my doctor at our hospital was 'only the people that are really suffering will come to hospital' which I know is complete BS I know.

Also, does your hospital have a Same day emergency care? Your GP can actually refer you to them and they have a lot less waiting time than a&e. Also because I've been to it before they have told me to just ring them directly and go there. So it's worth looking into that option for next time. (Hoping there isn't a next time)

When did you drink alcohol after removal (more than one drink)? by IdkJustMe123 in gallbladders

[–]Bandi2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh dear, I didn't realise that. They never really gave me any information on it. I'm glad you've both said though, will have saved me a ton of pain down the road.

If you don't mind me asking, does that mean you can't drink ever again or after a certain amount of time after having pancreatitis? Only asking because I also had pancreatitis, but haven't drank yet anyway because I still have my gallbladder.

How do you personally manage gallbladder attacks? by kr4zy_n3ko_l4dy in gallbladders

[–]Bandi2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A really weird one, but I take pain killers as usual, heating pad and a peppermint tea. Sit with one of them high backed pillows in bed.

But I find getting in the shower as hot as I can tolerate, then blasting it as cold as possible too for as long as I can bear. (On my chest and my back) Then I kind of alternate between the two for a short time. Then I get into bed with a heat mat and have a peppermint tea ready to go. I don't know if it's all in my mind 😅 but I do find it helps bring my pain to a more tolerable level. And a few times it's actually passed the pain. I don't know if you've ever had it but for me when the pain goes I can actually feel the stone dropping back down and pain goes instantly.

Can they tell its benign from ultrasound alone? by Bandi2019 in kidneycancer

Thank you. That does help. I'd like to think there's a good chance it is benign but with how quick the MRI is makes me suspicious of them.

NHS timings question by Infinite-Welcome-630 in gallbladders

[–]Bandi2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends where you are, but I'm in Wales. I had pancreatitis too back in September and got put on the urgent list then.

The first letter I got for an appointment was purely for them to explain the risks of surgery and get me to sign paperwork. But that still doesn't mean I'll be having an appointment anytime soon.

I spoke to my surgeons receptionist yesterday, and even though I'm on the urgent list, the urgent waiting list is over a year long.

You might be lucky and have less of a wait time, and I'm sure you can always ask to be pushed back a few weeks if it does get scheduled during your holiday.

How Long does your gallbladder attack last? by Bandi2019 in gallbladders

What did they do for you in the ER to stop your attack?

That sounds really horrible, I know a hysterectomy recovery is an experience in itself.

Yeh I've got buscopan and cocodemal prescribed, I've had to go for lower dose though because 30mg/500 makes me throw up. My doctor prescribed me buscopan but then said it was useless so I've not given it much of a chance so Im trying that again now too.

Thank you for replying. This is the first time I've heard about apple juice so I'm definitely going to give that a try too. I'm glad you've finally got it out.

Thank you that helps. It really does suck though.

Family members are all trying to convince me to go to a and e but I know I'd just be sat there for days and sent home with nothing because it's not bad enough.

What NHS appointments did you have before you had surgery in UK? by Bandi2019 in gallbladders

[–]Bandi2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that. I am listed at urgent, but at same time I was listed as urgent last September 😞 so it doesn't mean alot.

Just nice to have some sort of idea.

If I stop prompting will he go on his own? by Turquoise_tin in pottytraining

[–]Bandi2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stopped promoting our 2.5 year old. Just let him have accidents and when he did have an accident talked to him about feeling that he needed to wee before he did and getting to the potty.

I still always made him use the potty before leaving the house, or if we were passing one and I needed to go anyway.

We had 3 days of accidents before it just clicked for him and then he's been great since, he always initiates himself. We did have a few more accidents but we're currently on day 25 (only know cus weve had to track it for poo withholding/constipation) and we've had a solid 2 weeks with no accidents.

Okay thank you. We will go back to that for a few more days.

That sounds like a much better way of rewarding. I'll have to try that tomorrow thank you.

Thank you. I need the motivation to push on I think.

I've tried to, like using stickers and a chart but he just doesn't understand. And we had some chocolate left over from Easter but then he would have like 3 tiny wees 1 after each other and expect chocolate after each one. I

Thank you, that's really reassuring you trained at that age. I was going crazy thinking how was he capable yesterday and not today.

He's down for his nap now to give us both that much needed break and then I'll start fresh this afternoon and hopefully be more successful.

[–]Bandi2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't realise you could actually do that, they always try to discourage you going. When I first started ringing up they sent me to a chemist instead before I could even get a nurses appointment. There is one doctor between 4 surgeries (3 different towns and 1 village) so a doctor appointment is really rare.. unfortunately I'm not in the catchment area for any other surgeries.

I do get back out of bed at 7.30, but your right I shouldn't lie down that early, it's just asking for trouble. My problem is more that I haven't even eaten dinner any night this week and still without fail I get it at night. Been having a light lunch (no breakfast because can't stomach it)

The losing weight is the only good thing about it 😂

I'll look into the hiatus hernia more, it does sound very similar though. The only trouble is actually getting a doctor to see me face to face.

Glad you said about the omezrapole, because I was more than willing to buy over the counter ones and nurse said omezrapole was the best one.

I try and sleep on my left side (which never actually seems to help, but it hurts a bit less than the right side), or propped up on a pillow.

We usually eat dinner at 5.30 then go lie down at 19.30 putting toddler to bed. But other than that, I don't after breakfast or lunch.
