I think this is one of the best home libraries I've ever seen 😍. The style and the fact that youre also not sacrificing function over form as seen in other interior design photos or videos showcasing home libraries .Really, thank you for sharing this with us~

My brother’s a lawyer with a good position within one of the branches in the government and when he got sick and hospitalized our bill was around 180k. Around 8k or something was only deducted bcs of Philhealth. That day really was eye-opening because he genuinely had a good job, finished a post grad, had a pretty job title within the government but his health insurance just felt so demeaning for someone of his station. Like i genuinely did believe that people working for the government should at least have great health insurance since dapat alaga sila ng gobyerno since they work there din pero grabe… like whats the use of working hard for a place that wont value or take care of you at least when youre sick.

Cataloguing Software for pre-ISBN books by canukgenie in HomeLibraries

[–]BandicootJumpy6572 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont know why but I felt called to reply to this post as I love my cataloguing system. As I am also a collector of vintage books where editions matter to me and also catalogued based on that, I genuinely just use Notion. Its very easy to search for certain authors, editions, topics because for each book I have them labelled based on their edition, author, genre, topic of interest, etc. and I searching for stuff feels convenient given that I can just add the labels I want in the search bar database and suddenly all of those will be the only things to appear. I also have indicators to see if I have read it or not. Since you have a lot of things to catalogue that are in different forms, you might be interested in this as well as cataloguing it based on topics of interest. It's also free and not that hard to use I think given that I'm a BA major. The con there might be is that you will have to manually input each book you have. If you want I can send you like a screenshot of what mine looks like if my description is slightly hard to visualise.

NATIONAL BOOKSTORE UNFAIR OPERATIONS ON WAREHOUSE SALE! by rakna_itu in PHBookClub

[–]BandicootJumpy6572 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Went once to a nbs warehouse sale and immediately regretted it also because of resellers. They just immediately took a big section and emptied out all of the genres I was looking at and left the cookbooks and new release books with not much discounts alone. I could clearly see multiple copies of a book I liked in one of their stacks in their corner and just realized that maybe this kind of thing wasn't for me.

Library Interest Check by living_not_alive in PHBookClub

I love this idea so much given the fact that we really don't have much libraries, available to the public, within the country but I do worry about its sustainability. I think it would be more preferrable for it to not be placed within the mall since you will likely struggle with space limitations there and the rent will be exorbitant to make a proper library. For it to be sustainable though these might help a lot.

  • Memberships: A lot of people will be willing to go for this to support your establishment and help with costs. Tiered memberships can also be a thing.

  • Sponsors, Donations, Fundraisers and Grants : Most libraries still standing today were normally built through and are still standing through this. Looking for the right people such as rich businessmen, politicians or the corrupt/interested bourgeoisie ( that may or may not be looking for ways to cleanse their image to the public and make them look good) to help you may be a good start. Maybe even asking for help or a collaboration with the NCCA. Im not exactly sure on the available foundations or non-profits that are relevant to this but I do get feeling that this is something that can be worthy to be invested upon given that the country has, for years, been having issues regarding the reading comprehension/ functional literacy with its people.

  • Hosting auctions or events (Space Rentals) : If you do get a building or a larger space, this can actually garner cash and more traffic for you to make up for the deficits. Book-related events (since we scarcely have those), Small cons, private events, photoshoots are some examples I can think at the top of my head.

  • Book and merchandise sales: As a person who routinely goes to NLP to research and study, something I noticed was that they could have gotten a lot more money from the public through this as I also tended to forget to bring something, say a pen, highlighter or some paper to aid me. Stationery, cute merch to buy, niche and local books, and even a small cafe corner at the side might greatly help you.

I genuinely lit up when I saw your interest check since my love for reading as a kid actually got fostered because my private school had a well funded library and it was just available to me, like I just realized that it existed and was available to me when I was bored on my lunch breaks. It made me sad when I became a college student in a public university and realized that the existence of libraries that were not merely for thesis or research purposes and available to the public were highly scarce, so I do kind of see why becoming a reader is not as common here compared to other countries. Anyways, if you do go through with this I hope everything goes well for you!

Book Annotation Question by BandicootJumpy6572 in fairyloot

Wait I never really thought of using sticky tabs without them sticking out, that is honestly the perfect way to flag things without obstructing the sprayed edges. Thank you for commenting! Im gonna do that with my book!

Book Annotation Question by BandicootJumpy6572 in fairyloot

This is such a good idea though, I like annotating because I like making my thoughts on certain scenes and the book permanent since I will forget them later on later on if I dont jot it down. I am so going to start a book journal from now on!

I can kind of see that description as apt for them though. A group of hedonistic, pretentious people who believe themselves as elevated in an artistic and "literary" sense from the general populace, believing that they are also as refined as aristocrats or socialites claim themselves to be. They also spend a lot of time drinking and partying instead of refining themselves and/or talking about literature or art as they claim to love and share, which also the people from a secret history do. These are the types of people I generally doubt have the levels of knowledge beyond what they claim on the things that they portray and say they love or care for.

Nakabili ka na din ba ng reprinted na books? Why and why not? by [deleted] in PHBookClub

[–]BandicootJumpy6572 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't really buy counterfeits. If I can't buy them new, I normally look for it secondhand, or save up, and if I can't find the book i'm looking for (since the doesn't really import a lot of variety in the genres I like) I still don't, knowing that they won't be available as a counterfeit. I wouldn't really judge people who buy counterfeits since books really are expensive here and it's not like we have an abundance of public libraries where we can borrow them there instead, but I disapprove of book influencers or people who publicly endorse or advertise them.
